Last night in Myanmar / Letzte Nacht in Myanmar

Last night in Myanmar / Letzte Nacht in Myanmar
Myawadi, Myanmar
Myawadi, Myanmar 4.3.2014 Myawaddy, Myanmar Km: 53145 Last night in Myanmar / Letzte Nacht in Myanmar All too soon is the last night in Myanmar. On the other side it is always exciting visiting a new country. But before we reach Myawaddy, there’s again a magnificent drive over some hills with a great review of Myanmar.
Since the time is already too late to make the border crossing today, we decide to do it tomorrow. For that we can stay in a hotel on the roof. They provide us with a mattress, so that we do not even have to set up the tent.

Ghosttown/ Geisterstadt

Ghosttown/ Geisterstadt
Kyaikiyo, Myanmar
Kyaikiyo, Myanmar 2.3.2014 Kyaikiyo, Myanmar Km: 52832 Ghosttown/ Geisterstadt Shortly after the departure of Inle Lake, I have a flat tire again. I’m getting enough of it, as I have already patched the tube 6 times. Now, however, the valve is broken and I need to use my spare tube. By the way, I am meanwhile very quickly and I fix a rear tire in 30 minutes. The problem now is that I no longer have a spare tube and nothing may happen. During the repair Francesca cut a papaya and she supported me with refreshing fruit pieces .
On the way south we pass in the new capital, Naypyidaw. The first thing we see are over-sized streets. None of the roads has less than 8 tracks (4 +4). The widest has about 18 tracks (have not counted them). We also drive along many military installations and were stopped by the army they did not allow to continue on this street. The interesting thing about the city is that it acts like a ghost town. Hardly any cars on the streets, little houses and almost no people are visible. Between hotels, supermarket and other buildings is a huge distance and fields. I feel something lost in the communist- planned monumental city.
In Kyaikiyo we meet Gunther Holtorf, who travel for over 26 years with his Mercedes “Otto” on a world tour. He has traveled to over 220 countries and thereby come soon 900,000 kilometers. Nevertheless, that Gunther looked tired it was a fantastic and inspiring encounter. He would like to travel the last few countries where a drive by car is possible, and then draw a line. His SUV is then exhibited in the Mercedes Museum and will probably get a place in the Guinness Book of Records. I feel great to meet such a world traveler, but I also feel a bit sad that I will probably never come this far. On the other hand, he also started out small. Who knows where my journey ends …..

Too many tourists / Zu viele Touristen

Too many tourists / Zu viele Touristen
Inle Lake, Myanmar
Inle Lake, Myanmar 1.3.2014 Inle Lake, Myanmar Km: 52158 Too many tourists / Zu viele Touristen It’s too bad that we left our 5 star camping today and drive to Inle Lake . We go along with Ben (Englishman on a Royal Enfield). At the beginning we are making good progress, but then we lose a lot of time with rear tire repair, lunch, and look of the lost helmet camera of Ben. Finally, we arrive in the dark and we are too tired to go out to eat.
The next day we do not do much because there is not much to look at and I once again need some rest. In the evening we go for shopping Myanmar wine, delicious. However, we eat at a restaurant, resp. do not. The boss told me 20 times, he has very good food and it is the best restaurant in the street. So I order fried rice with chicken. Then she said, I’m sorry but it has no more rice! This ****** me off, so I go to the tent, and make me a fine noodle soup. For this purpose the previously purchased fine red wine. Then the world was back in order.
Here at Inle Lake , there are, as in Bagan and Mandalay, too many tourists . The local people are thus already dirty, and cheat the foreigner’s everywhere. Not quite as bad as in India but you pay as a tourist everywhere too much. The land already marked very western style and not so special for me. The best for me so far, was enjoying the ride between the touristic places. His encounter with the local population is a lot heartier than in the tourist resorts.

Sick / Krank

Sick / Krank
Bagan, Myanmar
Bagan, Myanmar 26.2.2014 Bagan, Myanmar Km: 51738 Sick / Krank The trip to Bagan was less stressful and we have seen many pagodas (old temple) seen. Overnight we can stay in a 5 star hotel between the temple and the river. It is understood that we, next to the $ 200 rooms, have set up tent on the grass and have cooked near of the restaurant in front of the tent rice. The shower and toilet, we may use from the hotel. So what I’ve never had!
Unfortunately, Francesca fell sick the next day, so that I could visit the pagodas only in the morning. There are thousands of them, large and very small and it is so or so impossible to see them all. Then I had to take care of Francesca. Your stomach cramps were getting worse, so I was looking for the address of doctor and we had to help out with medicine. Morning we wanted to go, let’s see if we can do this.

Temple, Temple and Temple/ Tempel und Tempel

Temple, Temple and Temple/ Tempel und Tempel
Mandalay, Myanmar
Mandalay, Myanmar 24.2.2014 Mandalay, Myanmar Km: 51479 Temple, Temple and Temple/ Tempel, Tempel und Tempel On the road to Mandalay, we have to take a detour, as the government has banned driving on the main road. The detour goes over hills and miserable roads and we lost our way, what I do not like. Francesca but means, go on! The road is getting smaller and worse and we ask at every opportunity for the way. Many do not understand us, but help very cordially. A worker pointing with his finger in a village and say “English”! He then shows the exact route by driving with his motorbike in front of us. In the village he calls the doctor and he trying with a few words in English to describe us the way. Because it was still not clear for me, he draws a map on a paper. After that, he also sits on the moped and drive 3 Miles in front of us to show us the crossroads where we have to turn. I have rarely had such a great encounter with the local people. He also has the joy that they could help us, as seen in the faces of the Burmese. Since I can only say: Priceless.
In Mandalay, we made a tour in the city to the main attractions. Temples everywhere! Even on the road to Mandalay we met almost too many temples and now there is certainly enough time for the next time. Let’s see what awaits us in Bagan. Mal sehen was uns in Bagan erwartet.

The exemption / Die Befreiung

The exemption / Die Befreiung
Kalewa, Myanmar
Kalewa, Myanmar 21.2.2014 Kalewa, Myanmar Km: 50927 The exemption / Die Befreiung The border to Myanmar is open despite an incident today. There were a few days ago two Indians kidnapped and therefore shops and restaurant are closed in protest. We can cross the border, but still need the permit from Myanmar. Later, the passport was stamped on the Indian side and after another military post and custom control we drove over the bridge to Myanmar. The entry went as far without problems, but also took hours again. While waiting, I was able to watch as the 2 missing in a coffin were transported to India! I think this is why are all a bit nervous and they want to close the border tomorrow again. The custom police took photo of the motorbike and then we could go with a guard. To drive to the next bigger city, we had no time anymore and we stayed in the near to the border. On the way to Kalewa we were also accompanied again by a guide, but could drive mostly free.
After India, Myanmar is like to be in heaven. People are much friendlier, waving as we drive past and laugh at what the Indians never actually made. Also, it is much cleaner in Myanmar and there is less dirt around. The residents keep more distance if I stop with the motorbike, and much more….
Let’s see if I have a good impression on the occupancy of Myanmar and the amazing scenery.

Fun day / Unterhaltsamer Tag

Fun day / Unterhaltsamer Tag
Moreh, India
Moreh, India 19.2.2014 Moreh, India Km: 50791 Fun day / Unterhaltsamer Tag Late in the evening we find in Guwahati a room in an expensive hotel. Then two days to relax and prepare for the next days.
We meet another Belgian couple and we make off together to drive to Moreh. The first day is very relaxing, less traffic and good roads are available. Towards evening, I feel that something is wrong with the tire and no air inside anymore. I pump up the tires and drive on, as I hope it hold to the next town. But I have to inflate 4 times more. We arrive already to late in the evening and all restaurants have been at 19:00, so we cook something in the room.
The next day I have to repair the tire first. The Belgians drive off already, as we overtake them somewhere for sure. While fixing I found 3 holes, but I all can fix. Then we drive and I notice that the speedometer no longer works. So once again take the tool in the hand. A few miles later, the fender is loose again and I get to the 3rd Time dirty fingers. In Imphal I do not want that Francesca with speaks with someone who claims to be from Government and asks for a permit. This has made acidic, so she barely talks to me. Let’s see how many coffee I have to cook for her, that the mood is better. We spend the afternoon in beautiful countryside and driving in hilly terrain in beautiful weather. Disturbing are the many checkpoints and controls. There are a lot of military and police, which shows that the situation in the North East of India is better, but still not normal. In Moreh later we meet again Kevin and Kitty. They had catch a nail in the morning and also had to fix the tire. We learn that 2 days ago 2 Indians were disappeared and many shops and restaurants are closed in protest. Also, the borders were closed and we do not know whether we can continue tomorrow.

Exhausting day / Anstrengender Tag

Exhausting day / Anstrengender Tag
Guwahati, India
Guwahati, India 16.2.2014 Guwahati, India Km: 50185 Exhausting day / Anstrengender Tag After the stop while driving home from Darjeeling, I first checked again the petrol. When opening the fuel cap, I heard air is drawn into the tank. It appears that the air supply is interrupted and then no petrol coming out from the tank. I’m trying to start the bike again, which starts without problems. So we have no further problems to Siliguri.
The weather forecast is bad for the next few days but planning forces us to go anyway. The best thing is when we drive the 450 km to Guwahati in a day, but this is almost impossible. But we still start and see just how far we’ve come. Soon the road becomes worse and worse. In addition, it begins to rain. And then there is still too much traffic on the road. So we drive 100 km in 2 ½ hours, which is definitely too slow. A little later appears a highway, which is in good condition. So I can drive 70 km with 100 km/h. Then the highway is interrupted by construction sites every 200, 500 or 1500 meters. The Indians can start on 100 km road, at 20 locations simultaneously with construction sites and will of course never finish. Amazingly, we reach Guwahati still at daylight, but still need to look for a room. As so often, nobody will give us a hotel room. The excuse is “Full”. But the real reason is another, they must with our documents to the police and are afraid that what is wrong and then have problems. What bothers me that I will always lie and we have to keep looking. Do we still find a hotel for this night?

Darjeeling Himalaya Railway / DHR

Darjeeling Himalaya Railway / DHR
Darjeeling, India
Darjeeling, India 14.2.2014 Darjeeling, India Km: 49737 Darjeeling Himalaya Railway / Darjeeling Himalaya Railway Crossing the border to India is equally chaotic as from India to Nepal. No real customs and I have to ask several times where immigration is. On India’s side one with a scooter guide me to the building of immigration. Even I would have probably not found. But I have the entry stamp and am again shocked by the Indian lifestyle. Dirty town, too many people, crowds, shabby houses, etc. The drive to Siliguri but was easy and we have time to go the next day after Darjeeling to see the famous railway. Unfortunately, it is quite cold at over 2200 meters, and at times it rains. After about 100 days, this is the first rain I have and the lowest temperature.
Then I see a steam train in the narrow streets, next to grocery store and the road. We take some pictures and then have to go to a petrol station, because the tank is empty. In a authentic Nepalese / Tibetan restaurant we eat the finest Momo’s that we have gotten so far. Yummy.
The drive back to Siliguri we go strictly according to the railroad. And drive sometimes right next to the steam train. The track was but spilled by various rock falls and is no longer passable. A pass is only possible with the motorbike, as well as the road was swept away. An otherwise the track and scenery, however, is fantastic.
Then the bike stutters more and more and I realize that what is wrong with the fuel supply. Plenty of petrol I have, as I have previously fueled. I think in order to solve the problem, but find nothing. After a few kilometers, it then stops completely. It’s already late and I ‘m not a good mood because I have no idea how to get at the moment further and see if I can solve the problem.

Shocking Indians / Inder Schock

Shocking Indians / Inder Schock
Koshi River, Nepal
Koshi River, Nepal 12.2.2014 Koshi River, Nepal Km: 49419 Shocking Indians / Inder Schock Nepal is less populated than India; it seems to me possible that you may camp here. In addition, it is also a great way to save money, so we set up the tent twice. The second time near a river and we expect that we will not be alone for long. In Nepal, the people are considerate and not besiege us. So camping is fun and we enjoy the morning with a rising sun. After 4 coffees but it is then time to continue. In a village we stop to buy vegetables. We note that here mainly Indians live and my motorbike is surrounded by 123 people at once. The Indians also know no decency distance and are 10 cm next to you. Since it also comes times before when I see one in sandals next to me that I’m accidentally with my hiking boots on his toes. Oh, sorry J
In the meantime, I put a line on the floor or draw a line that they cannot exceed. Even with a floral band I’ve blocked the way for them. This helps tremendously and you have some space to breathe. In the meantime, I think India is one of the least attractive countries for me. It’s not because of the country; it is mainly because of the people. Nothing is made finish. Example, the roofs are not tight, half the day no electricity, no water taps, ****** roads, etc. Most bothers me the dirt everywhere. Persistent, pointless honking on the streets, stuffy air and biting happens. To what extent the caste system is to blame, I could not figure out. A positive aspect is that they are fighting non-violently. Our Western culture may be too far away from the Indian and so it is difficult to understand each other.

Himalaya / Himalaya

Himalaya / Himalaya
Pokhara, Nepal
Pokhara, Nepal 10.2.2014 Pokhara, Nepal Km: 49158 Himalaya / Himalaya Our route takes us to the west and we will make a stop in Pokhara. When we reach the 3rd largest city of Nepal, we see from 500 meters above sea level to 8,000 high, impressive shows behind Pokhara, mountains.
Because we’re at the really high mountains, we take a trip to the more than 8,000 meters high Annapurna, respectively the whole Annapurnagroup. We soon cross a 2500 meter high pass and reaching Beni. From then on, we have to go on a dog miserable dirt road about 30 km in a valley. The street and the surrounding area is spectacular, but the shaking hardly bearable. In addition, a large portion of dust is added, which the new chain does well in any case. Finally, we see the Annapurna 1 and Annapurna South and make there a little break. Unfortunately, the native population cannot speak English and they cannot tell us more about the mountains. Because of the lateness, we have soon to go and endure again two hours of shaking on the bike. We have Caprese, cheese, salami and a bottle of Nepali wine for dinner. However, this bottle was a bad investment. I prefere to drink medicine than this bottle of wine. The rest of the food was outstanding delicious. Mmmhhhh…. As usual, the recreation, shopping, repair of different things needs still so much time. Much more than you might think. A trip around the world is just different than a short trip hollyday (from example 4 weeks on a beach). In Pokhara I also have the opportunity to withdraw more money from the ATM and change it immediately in Dollars, as the exchange rate for dollars is very good. So I have a lot of Dollars as reserve for the next countries .

Collecting visas / Visa einsammeln

Collecting visas / Visa einsammeln
Kathmandu, Nepal
Kathmandu, Nepal 7.2.2014 Kathmandu, Nepal Km: 48508 Collecting visas / Visa einsammeln It is now clear to us why the beef was tough as Anton. It was not a cow, but buffalo (water buffalo). And for sure not a calf, it was a buffalo from the retirement home. We tried pork the next day and it was quite good. Slightly more expensive than cow / buffalo and much cheaper than chicken or goat. Because we have time until the visas are finished, we go to the mountains (Himalayas). Halfway I caught a puncture and need to repair. I pulled out of the tire 2 nails. After work were done, we drove on, but only for a few kilometers and I had another flat tire! ****! So do it all again and again lose an hour. Therefore, it is not enough time for us to drive very close to the high mountains. But we want this to this again, and make another attempt later. In the next days we will collect visas. I have tried all to apply in parallel, which was not always easy. For the Thailand visa I had to ask to de consul for a meeting. I explain to him why a Visa on Arrival is not enough for me. Finally, I have 4 Visa in 1 ½ weeks, which is a very good performance. So it’s time to go to the next country… Also los ins nächste Land…

Change the chain / Kette wechseln

Change the chain / Kette wechseln
Kathmandu, Nepal
Kathmandu, Nepal 4.2.2014 Kathmandu, Nepal Km: 48253 Change the chain / Kette wechseln Today I find time to change the chain. It was easier than I thought because I could loosen the screws from the rear sprocket without help. The rest was routine work, but got anyway dirty fingers. When fitting the new chain, what I noticed. It is a little longer but has the same number of chain links. This means that the old chain was produced inaccurate and a possible explanation for the problems with the chain (I had to repair 3 times).
In the afternoon we do a small city tour of Kathmandu. For Temple fetish, just the right. Wherever you look there is a temple.
For dinner we bought a piece of cow. A kilo costs around 1.80! So we bought a lot and cooked it. But the meat was more like a shoe sole as delicate. It should probably have been a very old cow.

Searching for the parcel/ Suche nach dem Packet

Searching for the parcel/ Suche nach dem Packet
Kathmandu, Nepal
Kathmandu, Nepal 2.2.2014 Kathmandu, Nepal Km: 48207 Searching for the spare parts parcel / Suche nach dem Ersatzteil Packet When driving home from the embassy, I try to pick up my parcel at DHL. I am happy because DHL despite a public holiday has openly. But unfortunately the package is not there. Only for the expensive express service, the packets can be picked up at this service station. Mine is in the Central Post Office, which is now closed because of the holiday day. So I spent a relaxing day and try again on Sunday. The post office is open, but she did not find my package first. After looking for a long time, tells me a woman that it stored in a mailbox and I first had to go pick up the removal order in a different building. I asked for help and a woman accompanied me and translated everything. After I was in 7 different the offices I have the removal order. I have to fill out a form and then the packet is searched. After half an hour they can find the parcel in the room where I asked the first time for it. Now I have to order through customs and a man say to me that I must pay 16,000 Nepal Rupee (about 160 $)! So I say “no” start a discussion, because this is too much money for me. The Custom Officer called around a bit and I tell him that it is for the bike and I have a carnet de passage for it. Of course I do not have it with me and have to go back to the hotel. After making the Custom Officer more phones and says I have to pay! I say again NO and threatened me to call in the Swiss embassy. I have so said a magic word and the officer gives me immediately a discount of 50 %! Since I have the mechanism quickly understood, I repeat the magic word again and again and there were then more and more discount. Finally, we agreed after an hour of negotiations to 30$. As I said earlier, in the corruption there’s also a good thing: you can negotiate. But I was still ****** off and I feel a little sick again. I try to sleep a little, because the electrical power is off at the moment. In all Asian countries, there have been power cuts, but never as bad as in KTM, Nepal. Here are the times when the current is switched off:
Monday 1am to 10am 2pm to 7pm
Tuesday 3am to 9am 1pm to 6pm
Wednesday 10am to 5pm 7pm to 12pm
Thursday 9am to 3pm 6pm to 11pm
Friday 8am to 2pm 6pm to 11pm
Saturday 6am to 1pm 5pm to 10pm

Visa Marathon / Visa Marathon

Visa Marathon / Visa Marathon
Kathmandu, Nepal
Kathmandu, Nepal 31.1.2014 Kathmandu, Nepal Km: 48207 Visa Marathon / Visa Marathon To convert the new currency makes us both some problems. But, we find out that food and accommodation in Nepal is also cheap. On the road to KTM (Kathmandu), we must drive over a 2.500 meters above sea level high pass and already at the foot of the mountain the chain thinning a lot. If I reach it at least to the pass, I can on the other side let down roll and let go with a truck to KTM. The chain holds from the perceived 1000 curves onto the pass yet, but I feel with each turn of the chain a hit. Until we reach the main road it goes uphill again and I drive very carefully. So we reach the main road and have to eat properly again much dust as the road is from the bottom drawer. To my amazement, we reach KTM with the worn chain. Uff.
To change the chain is no longer the first priority, because I need 3 new Visa. A new for India and this needs so its time. Then we go to the embassy of two other countries in Southeast Asia. It is still unclear how to reach Southeast Asia and if my spare parts have arrived…

Crashes / Crash

Crashes / Crash
Birgunj, Nepal
Birgunj, Nepal 28.1.2014 Birganj, Nepal Km: 47959 Crashes / Crash Unfortunately we have to leave the warm weather and have to go in the cold north to Nepal. For sure I didn’t found the fastest road out of town. In the end I still missed the distributer road and I had to go back. On the distributer road two wheeler are not allowed, but I did not see the sign 😉 On the toll station they had no fun about me and 6 people jumped to the road to stop me, but I did not want to stop and gave shortly before the officer’s again strong throttle. Since the Indians are basically lazy, nothing further happened more.
Later, at an intersection appeared once on a moped in front of me. The driver crossed the road and drove on the wrong side. I had no way to pass him and at the end there was simply not enough space for both bikes and our side cases crash head-on. I felt a little shock and looked back. His plastic case did not exist anymore and was distributed in small pieces on the street. My one has a bump more and the holders are a little bent. So I can continue without problems.
Stay overnight in Gaya. A moped driver asks what we want. I answered a Guesthouse. He says he has one for 600 Rupees, I told him I can pay only 300. Finally, he agrees and we do not even have to stop to negotiate and find a room. The room was one of the best in India. Hot water in every hole in the shower, everything was clean, 3 sockets in different places in the room and no power blackout!
The next day we want to get close to the Nepalese border. India has provided us in the end again properly lousy roads. In part, it was only possible to drive with maximum 20 km/h. Potholes, gravel road, lots of dust and traffic. When darken we crossed the border and this I noticed when I was already in Nepal. This means back again, but now I have a problem. Since I have not seen the India customs, I did not have my passport and carnet stamped. An entry stamp from Nepal I do also not have and so I have to negotiation with the custom officer of Nepal, that I can leave the country again. OK, I did not negotiate, but simply continue driving.
Meanwhile, my chain makes trouble again and does not sound good. In Kathmandu wait spare parts, but I do not know if I even make it until then. * The images are in the provisional end of traveling in India. “In India everything is possible” we heard and said often. The pictures show some examples for this.

Outing / Outing
Kolkata, India
Kolkata, India 26.1.2014 Kolkata, India Km: 47148 Outing / Outing After the movie adventure we decide to stay a little longer in Kolkata and to buy better shoes for the next ride with the bike. The shoes are not for me but for Francesca. I was not quite honest for some time, since I am no longer traveling alone from Goa. Sorry.
I met an Italian and we both have the same way to go. So we decided for two people to ride on the motorbike on. First off, 2-3 days to see if this is all about to. Meanwhile, we have come far together over 5000 km and have decided together to control other destinations.
On Sunday we looked at the Bastille Day parade. Incredibly, many Indians are seen. It is a quiet and relaxed atmosphere. I also enjoy the wonderful warm weather and looking forward to the next time.

Movie star / Filmstar

Movie star / Filmstar
Kolkata, India
Kolkata, India 23.1.2014 Kolkata, India Km: 47099 Movie star / Filmstar I still fight with a persistent diarrhea. Nevertheless, I went to Kolkata for a few days to spend here. In the Guest House then passes by an agent and asks me if I want to play in a movie. There are 1500 rupees when I say yes. I would have said yes without the money, because it is the first time for me to act in a film. The film plays in the 40s and I have to play an American soldier. First, I got a free shave and a haircut. I have to play a drunken, coming out of a restaurant. Actually, I have enough experience, to walk drunken around, but I cannot unfortunately remember. The scene must be taken a total of 8 times. There are over 100 statists on site and a huge effort for just one scene. This shows that it is a great movie, even if no one could tell me exactly how it is the name of the movie. In the end they prepare another scene and needed only four statists. And I was able to join again. In the end I got another 500 rupees extra for the second Scene. Let’s see when the next deals coming for next movies…..

Digha, India
Digha, India 20.1.2014 Digha, India Km: 46074 Oil lost / Öl Verlust For several days, I see how oil flows down the engine. I have washed everything and then everything was again full of oil. A clear sign, that the engine loses oil. This is a problem that must be fixed immediately. When disassembling the engine, I see that the loss of oil from the cylinder head cover comes. I have to say that the rubber seal is definitely not good and I need a new one. I fix temporary with sealant. The whole thing cost me a day’s work though I feel sick and is rather having stayed in bed. In addition, I went to Digha to enjoy the sun, the heat and the beach. Instead, work and bed rest!
Digha is a place where only Indian people makes holiday. This is also sometimes interesting to look at and to spend not only in the usual tourist spots the time.

More Shitty road / Noch schlechtere Strassen
Varanasi, India
Varanasi, India 16.1.2014 Varanasi, India Km: 46074 More ****** road / Noch schlechtere Strassen Unfortunately, the bad roads have left traces. A retaining bolt of the side-case is broken! For this I need soon a solution. The way to Varanasi is unfortunately even worse than the streets before. About 200 km really ****** road, which remind me of Kazakhstan and reduce my motivation to a minimum.
In Varanasi I have to repair the side-boxes first. I find a locksmith who can make me the right piece of metall. As 100 years ago, he works to separates the iron with a hammer and chisel. In the hotel I mount it along then. Maybe I have to send this Solution to Touratech, so they can sell the boxes from beginning with a stable holder.
Then I visit the Ganges and the various ceremonies as: washing ritual, cremations and prayer rituals. To burn the corpse is from a hygienic point of view a good idea. But not to wash in the Ganges!

Shitty road / Shitty road
Khajuraho, India
Khajuraho, India 14.1.2014 Khajuraho, India Km: 4569 ****** road / ****** road Before leaving, I must once more in store next door. Yesterday, I saw a label “Kerala Coffee” and ordered half a kilo. The seller had to grind and prepare the coffee first. But now I can pick up them, which is the surprise of the week for me. I did not think that I can buy real coffee here. In the evening I find a restaurant that offers steaks. Of course, I go there and order one. Unfortunately, it is the disappointment of the week. A leather brine as I have never eaten!
Meanwhile, it has become quite cold in the north of India. This gives me no joy and it is clear to me, I must head south to get to warmer areas. On the way to Khajuraho, the road is getting worse, even though on the map a highway is shown. Everything is shaken vigorously for hours which again pretty stress me. It stresses me too, because I lose a lot of time and possibly reach Khajuraho late at night. Finally, I’m arriving at dawn and have still to look for a room. But this turns out to be easy, as the hotel owners come to me and make me an offer. The cheapest I suppose then. Let’s see what awaits me? Mal sehen was mich erwartet?

Need a break / Brauche eine Pause

Need a break / Brauche eine Pause
Jaipur, India
Jaipur, India 9.1.2014 Jaipur, India Km: 44994 Need a break / Brauche eine Pause In Udaipur I have the dipstick not screwed after checking the oil and then the oil is splashed out while driving. = Oil everywhere. My pants are now really oily, which still feels great, but leaves everywhere traces of oil. On the way to Jaipur I saw around 15 trucks that are injured in an accident, lying on the side or back. I will make no more photos and put it in the blog, because it is now normal to the Indian roads.
Today I would like to reinforce the case with an aluminum plate. I do need someone who can weld aluminum. I find one to help me. But I try as much as possible to make by myself, as I ‘m afraid that they mess up more than repair. When I told to the mechanics what I want, he is already making the holes in the sheet metal. Of course, in the wrong place and I must intervene immediately. By the time he understands that I want it exactly. Gradually, then the welding works are done and I can reassemble it.
One mixed vegetables, one Dal and 7 Roti (freshly baked bread) for incredible 63 rupees for 2 people (~ 50 Dollar Cents / person). The balance between Roti and vegetables is not exactly delicious. Next time I order one to two less Roti and one vegetable more (plus 10 rupees). So you can have in India a cheap dinner.

Happy new year / ä guet's neu's
Udaipur, India
Udaipur, India 3.1.2014 Udaipur, India Km: 44423 Happy new year / “ä guet’s neu’s” I have for some time the desire for a Swiss potato salad. Here I can buy all the ingredients and I make myself about it to cook the salad. Yummy …
The potato salad I have also earned since yesterday I go over 30 kilometers on “dog miserable” streets. Everything was shaken vigorously and the side boxes have to endure even more exposure. I must now urgently strengthen the back of the boxes.
In Udaipur I want to walk around the small lake and realize the road that it is significantly more than expected. Finally I have 11 kilometers walked.
Unspectacular I celebrate with others in the Guest House in the New Year and wish you all a successful 2014.

But if you are in the countryside it’s more difficult, especially I do not want to pay much for an accommodation. In India, these are the equivalent of about 3 to 6 francs. Unfortunately, this time I have found no reasonable accommodation, and finally decided to sleep in the tent somewhere. But in India you are never alone, so I was looking for a house with a place for the tent. As I passed a school, I asked where there is a possibility. Since the school director has misunderstood me, he offered me to stay in a classroom. Ok why not. However, he told me that school starts at 7:00 and I have to be out then. The next day there was a knock at exactly 6:30 on the door, “please move, quick, quick, students are coming “. A long coffee stop was really necessary to awake.
On the way I often find no rest, because many people are around my motorcycle when I stop. Recently I counted over 80 people! The Indians then come very close, so that I can get hard to breathe. I have to think of something to keep them away from me. They also they sit without asking on the bike, which I do not like to see. I also hate the constant and unnecessary honing. Instead of prison could punish the Indians by taking away the horn.

Exhausting day / Anstrengender Tag

Exhausting day / Anstrengender Tag
Hampi, India
Hampi, India 25.12.2013 Hampi, Indien Km: 42921 Exhausting day / Anstrengender Tag Thanks to the Italian Connection, and some calls and SMS, I know that my passport is still in Arambol. This means drive back 220 Km. I had made an appointment with Robert in the German Bakery to pick up the passport. Of course he was not there and other calls were necessary. But in the end no problem and I thanked him for the help. Now that I have the passport again, of course I have to drive back to Hubli. I let all the baggage in Hubli to drive faster and easier without baggage. As I start at 6am and I’m arriving Hubli at 2pm, there is still time to reach Hampi at the same day and I continue. In the evening I am exhausted and a little sick. 618 km (no new record) on a day was too much and I do not feel fit. Now I need one, two days rest to relax and then continue to drive in any direction. Let’s see how it goes?

Can not find the passport / Finde den Pass nicht
Hubli-Dharwad, India
Hubli-Dharwad, India 23.12.2013 Hubli, Indien Km: 42303 Can not find the passport / Finde den Pass nicht mehr After nearly three weeks Goa, the time has come to travel further. Actually, I did not want to stay so long time in Goa and I have to look now to heading north and cross in a next country. But it was a nice time in Goa to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere.
On the way to the west someone asks me at the hotel for the passport. Passport? Where I have it? After I’ve searched everything I know that I no longer have it! Small panic attack and pure stress!
Immediately I begin to think about where he might be and what the possibilities I have to get it or a new one. However, it is too late to drive back now, I can only tomorrow take further steps.

Relaxing / Relaxen

Relaxing / Relaxen
Arambol, India
Arambol, India 15.12.2013 Arambol, Indien Km: 41889 Relaxing / Relaxen I could now several days not decide if I should continue or stay some more days here. Here the saying is right once again. No decision is also a decision. It also makes me more fun than the beginning and meets except the many Russians more and more Europeans.
Meanwhile, I found out where the strange sound is coming from the motorbike. It is the chain again and I have to go again to grind out a chain link. It worries me that the chain is not of good quality.
Let’s see if I get one on Friday market in Mapusa.
For the next few days relaxing, sun, eat and drink well in on the plan. In other words, enjoy life.

Motorcycle work / Töffarbeiten

Motorcycle work / Töffarbeiten
Arambol, India
Arambol, India 10.12.2013 Arambol, Indien Km: 41742 Motorcycle work / Töffarbeiten Unfortunately, there was no pepper steak in the restaurant and my coffee run out! My mood is thus again at the lower limit. For distraction I’ll be working on the bike and I will do the big maintenance on the motorbike. Made it under the palm trees at 30 degrees and it was fun until I realized that a screw thread for the spark plug is damaged and this will sooner or later become a serious problem . A solution I have not, except to change the whole cylinder (expensive). And where do I get a cylinder? Changing the tires I have moved to tomorrow.
I can change the tires by myself, but go to a shop because it is easier. Since I have removed the front wheel, I want change the steering bearings too. Quick said, but unfortunately I get the lower bearing not away from the axis. I’m trying to warm up the bearing and must finally apply the crude method. The Royal Enfield mechanic can borrow the grinder and he brings me to the idea of a cross groove to grind and then with brute force split the bearing. After that I could assemble everything and will changing the rear wheel tomorrow.
Changing the rear wheel, progress was swift. However, I noticed that the chain is broken. A role is broken and it is only the axis visible. The link on the outside is already bent and loose.
The next day I go again to Enfield dealer, split the chain and install a replacement g link. Unfortunately, I discovered that the pinion is loose and worn the drive axle. This is a bigger problem that I have to repair later times.
In the test drive, I realize that the chain still makes unwanted sound and have to look at it later.
I’ve decided not to concern myself now with the problems and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere in the evening on the beach. Pleasant drink with pretty girls at the beach and watching the mirrors of the moon on the sea, in the background an unprofessional musicians trying to get the best out of themselves. At the moment I feel unsure of what I want to do in the near future. Longer stay here or move on?

Mood swings / Stimmungsschwankungen

Mood swings / Stimmungsschwankungen
Arambol, India
Arambol, India 6.12.2013 Arambol, Indien Km: 41681 Mood swings / Stimmungsschwankungen Lately I suffer more and more from mood swings. Because I had enough to drive straight ahead, I make a detour over the mountains to the west coast. I feel great because I can go for hours on good roads (rare in India) and gorgeous curves in a great landscape. In the evening I’m tired and just want go into a hotel. This I must first be found and still laboriously negotiate the price. From time to time annoy all the people, when I stop the bike. It then gathers dozens of people around the motorbike and I vacillate between aggressive and depressive mood. Why is it I do not know, but I have a guess. The usual “pre-Christmas depression” it cannot be (no fog and 30 degrees). In the last 9 days I’ve drove over 3,000 km in the suicidal Indian traffic. Goa is the right place to kick back and relax. Next I found out that I have drunk no coffee for a long time. Daily goal for tomorrow: cook plenty of coffee and drink it.
Also a beer I had no longer. When I arrived in Arambol (Goa), I saw the next to the guesthouse a liquor store. I bought a small bottle of Bacardi and Coke. Also, I see also that there are pepper steak available in the restaurant. I ate no meat for months, which is in one piece! Just the thought is great and…. I have to go, go out to eat …. * Because Travelpod does not support high resolution videos, the videos stored on YouTube. 100th Blog entry / 100. Blogeintrag

100th Blog entry / 100. Blogeintrag
Lonar, India
Lonar, India 3.12.2013 Lonar, Indien Km: 40682 100th Blog entry / 100. Blogeintrag This is the 100th Blog entry!
I did not realize how time flies. I am now for 7 months and 40,000 kilometer in 23 countries on the road and did not want to write so many blog entries and did not want upload as many photos. But I do it, I just like and whether there is to tell stories. I could write an A4 page every day, because I see and experience so much. Many things are interesting little details, such as : that trees can be sawed by hand, everybody can imagine, but here the railway lines will be sawed during installation by hand too (unfortunately I was too late to take pictures ). 3 men are necessary, two on a 40 cm long saw and one dribble oil on the blade. And so may cut hours long….
The effort for the blog I like to take on me, because it is for me to communicate with you. So I am particularly if you also write comments and even sent an e-mail. How many take a look at the blog I thought at first hardly. I can view statistics about how many entries were clicked. There are an incredible 23 per day and each item is clicked on average almost 50 times! The entry „Reach Asia” was even read 100 times.
I always wonder who reads all the entries? The one are you and I thank you for it very much. ********************** Dies ist der 100. Blogeintrag!

On the road again / Wieder auf Achse

On the road again / Wieder auf Achse
Māndu, India
Māndu, India 1.12.2013 Mandu, Indien Km: 40058 On the road again / Wieder auf Achse I stop in Jaipur and Udaipur while I heading to south. In Udaipur already James Bond has stopped and is driven with a crocodile-U-boat to the famous island. I spend only a short time here, and I will quickly come to the south. When I looked at the map, I saw “Ghost Town Mandu”. This sounds exciting and is on the way. So let’s go! In addition, there is the only hotel that is stored in the GPS. All things if there is not a hotel, then I have a little problem. As I get closer Mandu, I see many remains of an ancient city. They are spread over many kilometres and you can only imagine how gigantic big this city was. In the village are a half a dozen hotels and with 250 rupees (~ 3.80 CHF) I stayed in the cheapest so far in India. Exactly these surprises I love. Unexpectedly, I stay at a super cool place (no tourists and a great place of interest). Also dahin!

Too many tourists / Zu viele Touristen

Too many tourists / Zu viele Touristen
Agra, India
Agra, India 28.11.2013 Agra, Indien Km: 38876 Too many tourists / Zu viele Touristen Before I leave, I need to pick up at the tailor’s pants. Unfortunately, he is not there as promised to be here at 10am and I have to wait up to 12 o’clock. After that it drive off and I have to drive about 45 Km from the centre to out of the city. Through a lot of dust, exhaust smoke and hectic traffic. On a busy street, I then saw my first wild elephant. A powerful animal which was used for work.
In Agra arrived, I see from the roof of the hotel a major monument and decide the next day to see. Admission is 750 rupees (~ 11CHF) for tourist 38 times more than for the locals! A Guide catches and wants to show it all. I told him three times that I’ll not pay anything because I do not want a guide. He follows me anyway at every turn. So I do not feel free and I ask him that I can go alone. Was quite nice to look at the mausoleum, but it has too many tourists here, so I’m moving on again ********************** Bevor ich abfahre, muss ich noch die Hosen beim Schneider abholen.

Tire handover / Reifenlieferung

Tire handover / Reifenlieferung
Delhi, India
Delhi, India 26.11.2013 Delhi, Indien Km: 38663 Tire handover / Reifenlieferung I feel a little better, but still need to be quite fit again one or the other day to. In the evening I’m meet with Dani. After I was unsuccessful on tire search, he wrote me a message that he flies for business reasons to Delhi. This was the Change! I wrote him what tires I need, he organized in no time at all necessary. Today I can pick up the tire in the hotel and of course we go fine eating. He told me that he was stopped at customs because no tires allowed being imported. With negotiating skills and a kind “custom clearance charge”, he managed to get the tire out of the airport. Thanks for that, Dani.
With the new tires, I’m ready for the next 25,000 km and going soon on the road.

Both sick / Beide Krank

Both sick / Beide Krank
Delhi, India
Delhi, India 23.11.2013 Delhi, Indien Km: 38568 Both sick / Beide Krank The whole trip was so far like a computer game. I have to constantly solve tasks in order to reach the next level. This morning I started with a policeman who waved as I should stop here. Because I was not motivated to do it, I waved back, drove on and thought this is a nice policeman. Later, the Bike stuttered again and it is clear to me without repairing the fuel pump, I cannot continue. Likewise, the brake pads and the steering head bearings need to be replaced. I also notice that the aluminum boxes are more and more bulged because of bad design and I have to search new tires. It was shown in Delhi that it really is not that easy to get matching tires.
Next to this is that on Sunday is Sikh Day and so I feel also. But with ck. Now it has caught me and I have to lie down for a few days in bed. When I was sick, it was either 2 days or 2 weeks. Since I ‘m in an expensive hotel (500 rupees = USD 8$/night) with internet, private toilet / bath and warm water, it’s ok to stay some more days.

Shimla, India 20.11.2013 Shimla, Indien Km: 38110 Curves, curves, curves / Kurven, Kurven, Kurven After the spiritual visit to McLeon Ganj I drive to Shimla. I see now the roads are in the hills of the Himalayas and all only of curves. On the mountain roads with one-lane drives suicidal bus drivers. Several times there was a bus on a blind curve right up to me and a breakneck maneuver was necessary. Now you have to know that Hindi believing in reincarnation and so they drive! On the way the motorcycle comes to stutter. It is the same problem as I had before, but only when the tank was almost empty. Now the tank is full but the carburetor get no more fuel and I can just save me on one cylinder to the next petrol station. What is broken at the petrol pump, I know not, but I have to look for a solution here soon.

The Living Himalayas / Der Hauch des Himalaya

The Living Himalayas / Der Hauch des Himalaya
McLeod Ganj, India
McLeod Ganj, India 19.11.2013 McLeod Ganj, Indien Km: 37807 The Living Himalayas / Der Hauch des Himalaya On the rest day I visit the Golden Temple, which represents the holiest of Sikh. Like all the other pilgrims I pause and remember of my trip.
The next morning I had to make a decision that I will not continue with Pascal and Alex. The reasons are that it goes too fast to me and I could not prepare me for India. Next, the route selection is better when I first go to Delhi. I can also try to get tires. Unfortunately I have to leave the colleges and Alex has it made me still feel bad that I will not get tires in India.
As I drive north, I feel after the prison ‘Pakistan’ finally free again. Also a great feeling when I see the Himalayas for the first time. A wall which rises 4000 meters and the tips are dressed in white snow. I ride in the mountain town McLeon Ganj, where is the exile home of the Dalai Lama. In the evening I go to his temple and keep it short pause to reflect on my journey. To pray for a successful trip I turn prayer wheels at all and I feel that it is a very special moment for me. After 6 ½ months on the road, I arrived now on my journey.

I made good progress and considered to make crossing the border to Amritsar on the same day. In Lahore I decided to go further towards the border. Unfortunately, the police would not let me on the highway and I had a detour of a half hour. But I’ll try to cross the border anyway because I have no Pakistan money anymore. When I got to the border all police looked at the clock and told me I’m late and it had to hurry. The Pakistani customs officers rushed so much that they do not even writing down all the information from me and ran between custom and passport control. In 10 minutes it was done (record)! I drove on the Indian side to the border and saw the close ceremony start soon (ceremony with many thousand people). Maybe that’s why I had to hurry. On Indian side I saw two motorcycles, a Russian and a Belgian. It is these two who were always 2 days before me in Baluchistan and now I’ve caught up with them. The Indian Customs took a little more time, but it was the relatively fast. After clearing customs, I waited until the two motorcyclists drove by and together we drove in a Africa Twin convoy to Amritsar.
Many ask me: “It was really dangerous in Pakistan.” Well, I do not know, but I suspect it was dangerous. 2 Czech women were kidnapped beginning of the year and there are every week a bomb in Quetta. I have not felt the danger and uncomfortable I was not. Except that armed police come along when you go shopping and ride with you, everything is normal and the people are nice. I think it’s a bit of Russian roulette with a very large magazine. You’re at the wrong time, wrong place, then it’s bad.

Change the hotel / Hotelwechsel

Change the hotel / Hotelwechsel
Multan, Pakistan
Multan, Pakistan 16.11.2013 Multan, Pakistan Km: 37170 Change the hotel / Hotelwechsel I have decided that I drive alone today. Michael is too stressed and I feel better when I’m driving without Michael. The trip to Multan led past many green rice fields and people are less Islamic and more influenced Hindu. It looks like I imagine India.
The hotel search proved not easy. But I found one where I can stay for 3000 rupees. When I went for dinner, the manager came and said that the police did not want that I stay here. I said that the police must first come and I waited until she came. They explained that it is not safe enough here. Since I was already rested and my mail was sent, I allowed myself to fully relax fun with the police. I told to the officer that he now has 3 possibilities: first I stay here, second he found me a hotel for 2000Rs, and third I stay at the police station. We then drove off and I said that he would be traveling without low beam. He said that the fuse is faulty and turned on the blue light. In the hotels he had to take over the negotiations and I just stood there and said “no, 2000 rupees „. At the end, he found a hotel that was cheaper and much better than the first. I thanked him and he was visibly relieved.
For dinner I went right next door to a restaurant and had the best food I had in Pakistan.

Curfew / Ausgangssperre

Curfew / Ausgangssperre
Sukkur, Pakistan
Sukkur, Pakistan 15.11.2013 Sukkur, Pakistan Km: 36681 Curfew / Ausgangssperre Due to disagreements in the hotel they wanted to call any escort and we went without an escort out of town. At the first checkpoint an escort was provided then. Because of Ashura (Remembrance of the Shiites in the death of the third Imam Husain), many objects such as gas stations, bridges, tunnels, railways and roads are guarded. I’ve never seen so many armed police and soldiers. And I’m in the middle of it!
As we reach the plateau to Sibi, not as much is guarded and the escorts take it easier, so that sometimes a piece without a protector is being driven. Ok, the pick-up did not bring more than 60 on the speedo and I have not seen that it no longer can follow.
In Sukkur, there was a big surprise, as the hotels have the statement of the authority during Ashura to take any guests. After a long search, we finally found a room. The next surprise came while colleague Michael questioned by the secret police that the roads are closed the next day and a curfew there. Further, all phone lines have been cut, but the internet works to my happiness. So we have to spend a day in the hotel and wait.

Exit permit / Ausreisegenehmigung

Exit permit / Ausreisegenehmigung
Quetta, Pakistan
Quetta, Pakistan 13.11.2013 Quetta, Pakistan Km: 36280 Exit permit / Ausreisegenehmigung In Nushki we didn’t start so early and we were stopped by police 16 times. On average, there were all 11.5 Km an escorts change. The Levies Forces drove us to the border of the next accountability area. There we were most of time quickly to give us to the next squad. Sometimes there sat up to 6 with Kalashnikov armed soldiers on the pickup. And sometimes only with an old Chinese carbine armed on a moped. In Quetta, they are then moved forward with an armored vehicle.
To obtain the NOC on the same day, there were not enough time and so we had to do it the next day. This is also the time for smaller works and recreation. The owner of the hotel told us that we are no longer allowed to go on the streets after 18:00. But I had the first real beer after 3 months.
My research intensifies, because right now the Ashura holidays while it may at any time come to violence. Thus we have brought the kidnapping areas behind and in front of the areas with explosions and shooters. Different people told us, that there was a bomb blast near the hotel with several injuries and 3 deaths. But I’m still relaxed, as we have heard nothing of the whole thing.

Escorts / Eskorten

Escorts / Eskorten
Nushki, Pakistan
Nushki, Pakistan 11.11.2013 Nushki, Pakistan Km: 36133 Escorts / Eskorten Early in the morning we take off from Taftan. In fairly good road, the path led us to Nushki. At 450 miles we were stopped 18 times by the police and carry with armed escorts. Sometime the Escort sits in Michael’s car, sometime they drive on moped or in a pickup.
In Nushki the police wanted that we continue to Quetta (pushing, so they have no more responsibility), but it was already dark and we slept properly again at the police station.

Bordercrossing to Pakistan/Grenzübertritt nach Pak

Bordercrossing to Pakistan/Grenzübertritt nach Pak
Taftan, Pakistan
Taftan, Pakistan 10.11.2013 Taftan, Pakistan Km: 35588 Bordercrossing to Pakistan/ Grenzübertritt nach Pakistan First I try to get gasoline again. Yesterday I got no petrol although I went to the petrol station with a police man. Today I managed it with a card of another. However, I had to pay 30% more for gasoline. Because there was no escort, I drove to the bakery and bought a loaf of bread. After a generous breakfast we ordered the police. Here Michael told me that the night shots were fired, but I have not heard and slept deeply.
At the border, an office was provided to us, who piloted us through all stations. After about 1 1/2hrs we were through on the Iranian side. On the Pakistani side, everything looks much more confusing and we are sent from station to station. After the Custom House we should return to the police station because after 14:00 is no longer go escort to Dalbandin. We decide to go without escort, but only come up to the first checkpoint. Michael drive around the checkpoint off road and drive away . I’ll stay back and wait. I realize yet how the police mumble something to hold me. I then take the keys of my motorbike and I just in this moment a policeman try to snatch the keys from my hands. Later we drive back to Taftan to the police station. With a police escort we go food shopping. We are quickly the middle point with the motorcycle and the Land Cruiser. It forms a cluster of people around us. Back in the police station we start to cook and in the meantime 30 prisoners who wanted to flee across the border arrived. In short, we are in a comfortable camping environment, around us 30 prisoners and half a dozen armed policemen. Overnight I slept in the boss’s office .

Mīr Jāveh, Iran 8.11.2013 Mir Javeh, Iran Km: 35062 It’s getting serious / Jetzt wird’s ernst Late in the evening, I met Michael. A German, who travels with a Land Cruiser to India and Southeast Asia. We speak briefly together and decide to cross Pakistan together.
The ride to Mir Javeh was then unspectacular. In the last 35 km we could only drive with escort and lost a lot of time. A border crossing was no longer possible and therefore we stayed on the Iranian side in the hotel. It was forbidden to leave us alone on the streets and that’s why we were escorted by the police.

Bam, Iran 8.11.2013 Bam, Iran Km: 35062 Important desicion / Wichtige Entscheidung Since I now finally have a visa for India, my motivation increases significantly. I have to decide which way I’m going to take to India as well. Shall I cross Baluchistan, is easier but more dangerous. Or should I go via Dubai and then take an expensive plane.
I opt for Pakistan and start immediately to gather more information about the journey through Pakistan. I’m going to Bam and hope to meet other travelers with whom I can build a convoy.

Kerman, Iran 3.11.2013 Kerman, Iran Km: 33704 Excursion to Kerman / Ausflug nach Kerman On the way to Kerman I wanted to set up the tent somewhere, but it is getting colder and the passes higher. So I decide to go straight to Kerman and spend one more night in the hotel. The other day I want to go to Rayen, but I am not motivated and then make a trip to the Kalut dessert. A beautiful area and I drive further and further into the desert. Unfortunately realize too late that I went too far and reach Kerman in the dark.

This time I catch the ferry to late and she’s already moving away. But the bridge was still down, so I just catch the ferry. I must consider how I bridge the time until I get the decision of the visa to me now. I wash the motorcycle jacket and trousers. Next I make inventory and realize that I still have too much luggage. I will pass it by and by. It is boring to me now and I decide that I still go to Kerman. So go ahead… Also los…

Disturbance of the peace / Ruhestörung
Basaidu, Iran
Basaidu, Iran 27.10.2013 Basaidu (IR) Km: 32660 Disturbance of the peace / Ruhestörung After the beautiful drive along the south coast, I decide to spend one more day at the beach. Suddenly I see a garbage collector who comes closer to my tent. I pretend as if I do not notice it. It remains then 50 meters in front of my tent and goes after a short time back. Later, I think hopefully he is not a bandit who comes back at night and attack me.
In the night I wake up because of shining a flashlight in my tent. I hear two men speaking in Farsi something and get closer to my tent. Then I remember to the garbage collector and he comes back to attack me now?
I have taken precaution out my pocket knife and opened the big blade. I strained hear what all happens outside. I notice that the men go and meet at a place with others. I open careful my tent and see that they go away on their mopeds. Do they come back again or call the police? I cannot sleep properly because I just hear every sound and I ‘m not sure if someone comes back after that. Am I doing what I always do in such situations, I put my ear plugs into the ear so I can hear nothing more. Then the world is mostly back to normal. Or?

To shit bricks / Hosenschiss
Qeshm, Iran
Qeshm, Iran 25.10.2013 Qeshm (IR) Km: 32485 To **** bricks / Hosenschiss I’m making another attempt to get the India visa, later more about it. I have to wait a few days and decide to drive to the island of Qeshm. At the ferry I get a bad feeling, because I need to go to the custom control. The island belongs to Iran and that is why I do not understand what they want. I got to **** bricks because I do not want my passport stamped, because if he is, I can no longer travel to Iran (I only have a single entry visa). After a while one came who speaks a little English and promises me that the passport will not be stamped, I continued the process. I have to sign a form and went to the ferry. I’m the last of the ferry and have just 30 seconds to wait until the ship left the port. On the ferry realize that I might have a problem with the Carnet de Passage, because I had to fill out a customs form for motorbike. I have to **** bricks again, because the carnet should not be stamped again. I look for a quiet place to stay overnight and read about the island. The island is a free trade zone, and now I understand why I had to go to the custom control. Let’s see how long I can stand on the largest island in the Persian Gulf, and if I can go back.

Stopped / Stehen geblieben

Stopped / Stehen geblieben
Bandar Abbas, Iran
Bandar Abbas, Iran 23.10.2013 Bandar Abbas (IR) Km: 32308 Stopped / Stehen geblieben For a long time young boys nerves me on their mopeds when they follow me some time. Whether I go fast or slow, I ‘m being followed by the entire city. In the eyes of the Local I am or my bike something special that is often admired. It’s nice to be the middle point and they treated me like a star. But just when I have to do personal stuff or I need some rest, then it is a real stress factor.
On the way to Bandar Abbas I’m running out of gasoline, respectively I have to switch to reserve. At this moment I realize that I ‘m on reserve! I have to decant the extra tank. However, I can then no longer start the motorbike. In Turkey I had the same kind of problem, but this time it look like a more serious problem. I need help and this time I do not know if I can really start the motorbike again. The help is there for some time, a car driver stopped after 30 seconds I stood on the roadside. Also a young boy with a motorbike was stopped (usually one of the nerves) and went for me to the petrol station to fill up the extra tank again. But now my battery is now empty. The moped driver fetches a power cable to bridge from the car. The power cable is a normal cable that was double-wired (Iran – style). The motorbike is still not running! Next, we try to push the bike (pull by car and … and he runs! I will give to the moped driver 50,000 Rial’s for the petrol, but he refused to accept. The thanks for the driver is, that he has invited me for dinner. The Help is a completely different culture than ours here in Western Europe.
One night before, 2 Shepherd want to go home and stop at my tent. Of course, first we talk about the Honda and then one brought a can to boil some tea. At campfire we drunk together tea and had a small talk together. Before they left one gave me the rest of the tea and sugar! I then placed the rest of the wood and watched how the full moon rises.
