Ferry to West Timor/ Fähre nach West Timor Larantuka, Indonesia

Larantuka, Indonesia 31.7.2014 Larantuka (Flores), Indonesia Km: 70773 Ferry to West Timor/ Fähre nach West Timor I’m happy that I can start driving with the new tires and also uncertain when we find a ferry to Timor. Other travelers have been waiting up to a week. In Larantuka we go first to the port and ask for the ferry. We are in the wrong place, but someone tells us tomorrow leave one. Great, wait just one night. The hotels here are very expensive for what they offer and so we decide that we will stay at the port in the tent. At 5 o’clock in the morning I hear some noise and look out of the tent and see that the ferry has arrived and start to unload. After that, I cannot sleep because I’m too excited. Later we buy tickets and someone says we can now go onto the ferry. When we arrive on the ferry all sleeping spaces are free and we can set ourselves comfortable. Later, more and more people come on board and overload the ferry massively. Every flat surface is used, no matter where and how dirty it is. This I’ve never experienced. In each course, stairs, under and on the cars are people around. At 12:30 we go then and we still enjoy the fresh air on the upper deck, eat something and lie down in the evening to sleep. When and in what condition we will probably arrive? ********************** Ich bin glücklich, dass ich mit dem neuen Reifen losfahren kann aber auch unsicher, wann wir eine Fähre nach Timor finden. Andere Reisende haben schon bis zu einer Woche gewartet. In Larantuka fahren wir als erstes zum Port und fragen nach der Fähre. Wir sind am falschen Ort, aber jemand sagt uns, morgen fährt eine. Super, nur eine Nacht warten. Die Hotels sind hier sehr teuer für das was sie bieten und so entscheiden wir uns, dass wir gleich am Port im Zelt übernachten. Um 5 Uhr morgens höre ich Lärm und schaue aus dem Zelt und sehe dass die Fähre da ist und entladen wird. Danach kann ich nicht mehr schlafen, da ich zu aufgeregt bin. Später kaufen wir Tickets und jemand sagt, wir können jetzt schon auf die Fähre. Als wir auf der Fähre ankommen sind alle Schlafplätze frei und wir können uns gemütlich einrichten. Später kommen immer mehr Leute an Bord und überladen die Fähre massiv. Jede gerade Fläche wird genutzt, egal wo und wie schmutzig sie ist. So was habe ich noch nie erlebt. In jedem Gang, Treppe, unter und auf den Autos liegen Leute herum. Um 12:30 geht es dann los und wir geniessen noch die frische Luft auf dem Oberdeck, essen etwas und legen uns gegen Abend schlafen. Wann und in welchen Zustand werden wir wohl ankommen?

Maumere, Indonesia 30.7.2014 Maumere (Flores), Indonesia Km: 70606 Tire decomposed into parts/ Pneu zerlegt sich in Einzelteile After a few hours’ sleep we start towards Kelimutu volcano. A volcano with 3 crater lakes, that each haves a different color and the colors change within a year several times. Then we try in a tourist village to find a room, but we are unsuccessful. We continue driving, and stop finally on a dream beach, which fewer tourists have seen. The next morning I find out that the rear tire is completely worn out on one side. I can still drive to Maumere and then I need a new one. Because here everybody drives only small scooters, I’m afraid that I will not find a tire and already think about to load the motorbike on a truck.
The mood between Francesca and me is since Ende not good anymore, because we had different opinions on how long we will stay in Ende. This time take the bad mood for several days and I do not know how it will go further. In Maumere, before I look for a hotel, I’m looking for new tire and find one surprisingly. He does not have the dimension I need, but the wheel diameter is the same. This should hold at least until East Timor and I very much more relaxed than 5 hours before. I also do even the oil and plug change. I allow myself a little prank, as the hotel on the opposite won’t give me the password for the Wi-Fi, even though I offered him money for it. I then found out the password itself and reconfigure the Wi-Fi, that nobody needs a password anymore. Sorry 🙂 ********************** Nach einigen Stunden Schlaf brechen wir Richtung Kelimutu Vulkan auf. Ein Vulkan mit 3 Kraterseen, die jeweils eine andere Farbe haben und die Farben innerhalb eines Jahres mehrere Male wechseln. Danach versuchen wir in einem ‚Touristendorf’ ein Zimmer zu finden, sind aber erfolglos. Wir fahren weiter, und stoppen schlussendlich an einen Traumstrand, den wohl selten ein Tourist gesehen hat. Am nächsten Morgen stelle ich fest, dass der Hinterreifen auf einer Seite komplett abgenutzt ist. Ich kann noch bis Maumere fahren und dann brauche ich einen Neuen. Da hier aber nur kleine Mopets herumfahren, habe ich Angst, dass ich keinen finden werde und plane bereits, den Töff auf einen Lastwagen zu verladen. Die Stimmung zwischen Francesca und mir ist seit Ende nicht mehr gut, da wir unterschiedliche Meinung hatten, wie lange wir in Ende bleiben wollen. Diesmal dauert die schlechte Stimmung mehrere Tage an und ich weiss nicht wie es weiter gehen wird. In Maumere suche ich vor dem Hotel, einen neuen Reifen und finde überraschenderweise einen. Er hat nicht die Dimension die ich brauche, aber der Raddurchmesser ist derselbe. Dies sollte mindestens bis Osttimor halten und ich sehr viel entspannter als 5 Stunden zuvor. Ich mache auch noch den Öl- und Kerzenwechsel. Ich erlaube mir noch einen kleinen Streich, da das Hotel gegenüber das Passwort für das Wi-Fi nicht geben wollte, obwohl ich ihm dafür Geld angeboten habe. Ich habe dann das Passwort selbst herausgefunden und das Wi-Fi neu konfiguriert, dass man kein Passwort mehr braucht. Sorry 🙂

End / Ende Ende, Indonesia

Ende, Indonesia 26.7.2014 Ende (Flores), Indonesia Km: 70412 End / Ende I’m at the end. Ok not quite right. I am in the Ende (german for end), in a small port town on the island of Flores.
After the ferry we head east and stay in Bajawa. There I find out that the rear tire is used unevenly. Then it goes on with many curves to Ende. After a quiet first night, comes a big setback. A thief steals the mobile phone from Francesca. He use violence and pulls it out of her hand and drives with scooter away. Francesca fall down and hurt his knee. She still tries to follow the thief, but without success. Sadly, she comes back to the hotel and is obviously not in a good mood.
The mood continues to deteriorate, because in this night some guests making the whole night a lot of noise outside our room. Francesca is also stressed when they eat. I myself have never heard anyone who smacks so loudly. And with all the other body sounds they make it’s really disgusting and like monkeys! The next night the same people are back in front of our room and this time we make more stress and call at 24:00 the owner of the hotel and wait until they finally go.
We hope that we can sleep properly again soon. ********************** Ich bin am Ende. Ok nicht ganz richtig. Ich bin in Ende, in einer kleine Hafenstadt auf der Insel Flores. Nach der Fähre fahren wir weiter Richtung Osten und übernachten in Bajawa. Dort stelle ich fest, dass der Hinterreifen ungleichmässig abgenutzt ist. Danach geht es auf Kurvenreicher Strecke nach Ende. Nach einer ersten ruhigen Nacht, kommt ein grosser Rückschlag. Ein Dieb klaut das Händy von Francesca. Dabei wendet er Gewalt an und reisst es ihr aus der Hand und fährt mit dem Mopet davon. Francesca ist dabei hingefallen und verletzte sich am Knie. Sie versucht noch dem Dieb zu folgen, hat aber keine Change. Traurig kommt sie zurück ins Hotel und ist natürlich nicht bei guter Laune. Die Laune verschlechtert sich weiter, da in der Nacht einige Hotelgäste bis am Morgen Lärm vor unserem Zimmer machen. Francesca ist auch gestresst, wenn sie essen. Ich selbst habe auch noch nie jemand gehört, der so laut schmatzt. Dazu kommen alle anderen grausigen Körpergeräusche die sich machen. Eklig und like Monkeys! In der nächsten Nacht sind die gleichen Leute wieder vor unserem Zimmer und diesmal machen wir mehr Stress und rufen um 24:00 den Besitzer des Hotels und warten bis sie endlich gehen. Wir hoffen, dass wir bald wieder richtig schlafen können.

Night ferry / Nachtfähre Labuanbajo, Indonesia

Labuanbajo, Indonesia 24.7.2014 Labuanbajo (Flores), Indonesia Km: 70007 Night ferry / Nachtfähre If we stay in the tent, we usually get up with the sun. That is today at 6 clock, then cook coffee and pack. We drive on twisty roads for hours along the coast and I enjoy that it has no traffic. The goal today is Bima, the largest city on the island. But we reach Bima much earlier than planned and so we go straight to the port city. First we ask at the port when the next ferry arrive, because I’ve heard that others had to wait up to 5 days. One of them asked us if we want the night or day ferry. The night ferry arrives at 8 clock and we decide to take this. Since we still have time we go back to the village and eat fresh grilled chicken. After a long time something solid between the teeth.
When we ask around at the ticket counter when it opens, a man makes us an offer, which we can go directly to the ship and have to pay less. But I do not trust the guy, since it is obvious corruption and I say to myself, if we cheat, then we cheat right. So I bought a ticket for motorbike category II (up to 450cc, which nobody can properly control) at the ticket counter. At 8pm the ferry is truly arrived and the people start to unload. At 9 we were able to go on the ferry, but the grumpy man at the gate said that I need a ticket category III. I told him then, that the man at the counter gave me this. After a short discussion he lets me by. Francesca look for a place and lays out the mattresses, so that we can get some sleep. People take it here with a courtesy distance not so accurate and so are all crisscross. We later look to the sunset and then we try to get some sleep.
I can sleep to my surprise a few hours and in the morning we go again to the upper deck and watch the sunrise. ********************** Wenn wir im Zelt übernachten, stehen wir normalerweise mit der Sonne auf. Das heisst heute um 6 Uhr, dann Kaffee kochen und packen. Wir fahren auf kurvenreicher Strecke stundenlang der Küste entlang und ich geniesse, dass es keinen Verkehr hat. Das Ziel ist heute Bima, die grösste Stadt auf der Insel. Doch wir erreichen Bima viel früher als geplant und so fahren wir gleich zur Hafenstadt. Als erstes fragen wir am Port, wenn die nächste Fähre fährt, denn ich habe schon gehört, dass andere bis zu 5 Tage warten mussten. Einer fragte uns, ob wir die Nacht- oder Tag-Fähre wollen. Die Nachtfähre kommt um 8 Uhr an und wir entscheiden diese gleich zu nehmen. Da wir noch Zeit haben gehen wir ins Dorf zurück und essen frisch grilliertes Poulet. Endlich wieder mal was festes zwischen den Zähnen. Als wir am Ticketschalter herumfragen wann er öffnet, macht uns einer ein Angebot, dass wir direkt auf das Schiff können und da we***** bezahlen müssen. Ich traue dem Typen aber nicht, da es offensichtlich Korruption ist und ich sage mir, wenn wir bescheissen, dann richtig. So habe ich mir am Ticketschalter ein Ticket für Töff Kategorie II (bis 450ccm, was ja keiner richtig kontrollieren kann) gekauft. Um 8Uhr ist die Fähre dann wirklich eingetroffen und wurde entladen. Um 9 Uhr konnten wir dann auf die Fähre, jedoch meinte der schlecht gelaunte Mann am Eingangstor, dass ich ein Ticket der Kategorie III brauche. Ich erklärte ihm dann, dass des Mann am Schalter mir dies gegeben hat. Nach einer kurzen Diskussion lässt er mich dann durch. Francesca ergatterte sich ein Platz auf einer geraden Fläche und legt die Matratzen aus, damit wir etwas schlafen können. Die Leute nehmen es hier mit einem Höflichkeitsabstand nicht so genau und so liegen alle kreuz und quer. Wir schauen noch dem Sonnenuntergang zu und dann versuchen wir etwas zu schlafen. Ich kann zu meinem Erstaunen doch einige Stunden schlafen und gegen morgen gehen wir beide auf das Oberdeck und schauen dem Sonnenaufgang zu.

Island number 5 / Insel Nummer 5 Kota Beach, Indonesia

Kota Beach, Indonesia 21.7.2014 Kota Bach (Sumbawa), Indonesia Km: 69665 Island number 5 / Insel Nummer 5 On Lombok we do not spend a lot of time and go directly to the port in the East. We can also equal to a ferry, which somewhat surprised me that it goes so fast. But this is good for saving time. On the ferry we spend most of our time at the bow and look at the great scenery. Then it goes along in a relaxed manner the coast. “>In contrast to all other islands have little traffic here and makes driving on the winding road along the coast enormously fun.
We stop to stay at a beach, make a campfire and watch the stars and the Milky Way at candlelight. “>Fantastic. ********************** Auf Lombok verbringen wir nicht viel Zeit und fahren direkt an den Port im Osten. Wir können auch gleich auf eine Fähre, was mich etwas überrascht, dass es so schnell geht. Ist aber gut so. Auf der Fähre verbringen wir die meiste Zeit am Bug und schauen die tolle Landschaft an. Danach geht es in gemütlicher Weise der Küste entlang. Im Gegensatz zu allen anderen Inseln herrscht hier wenig Verkehr und das Fahren macht auf der kurvenreichen Strecke entlang der Küste enorm Spass. Wir stoppen zum Übernachten an einem Strand, machen ein Lagerfeuer und schauen die Sterne und die Milchstrasse bei Kerzenlicht an. Herrlich.

Island hopping / Inselhüpfen Mataram, Indonesia

Mataram, Indonesia 20.7.2014 Mataram (Lombok), Indonesia Km: 69521 Island hopping / Inselhüpfen A pause at the moment is not possible, because I have no idea how long we have to wait for the ferries. On the island of Lombok, there is no problem. Several drive every day. On Bali we make a detour to the north of the island and arrive to late at the port. So we can enjoy the sunset on the ferry. When we arrive on Lombok is it already dark and I have to drive the 10 km to the city in the dark, although there is usually no driving at night for me. Arrived in Mataram and search and found a hotel and then go shopping and withdraw money again. How we continue tomorrow, I do not know yet. ********************** Eine Pause liegt im Moment nicht drin, da ich keine Ahnung habe wie lange wir auf die Fähren warten müssen. Auf die Insel Lombok, ist es kein Problem. Mehrere fahren an jedem Tag. Da wir noch einen Umweg über den Norden von Bali machen, kommen wir aber später an und geniessen den Sonnenuntergang auf der Fähre. Als wir auf der Insel Lombok ankommen ist es dann schon dunkel und ich muss die 10 Kilometer in die Stadt bei Dunkelheit fahren, obwohl es für mich normalerweise kein Fahren bei Nacht gibt. In Mataram angekommen suchen und finden wir ein Hotel und gehen dann einkaufen und wieder mal Geld abheben. Wie es morgen weiter geht weiss ich noch nicht.

No relaxing / Kein Relaxing Denpasar, Indonesia

Denpasar, Indonesia 19.7.2014 Denpasar (Bali), Indonesia Km: 69312 No relaxing / Kein Relaxing Finally I get from the Australian Immigration the grant notification that they allow me a visa. And on Friday, we can even pick up the visa for Timor. Uff, I’m relieved. Now we have still some time and we make a trip to Ubud and to a beautiful beach. In Ubud I was disappointed, because too many tourists and traffic are on the streets. I also do not know why so many tourists come here and what is there to look at.
Unfortunately, everything is very far apart, so that we drive almost 600 km in Denpasar at the end. In city traffic, we are driving slowly because of too much traffic or too few roads. We drive on average speed of about 20 Km/h which means that we spend about 4.5 hours per day on the motorbike. Incidentally, I’m doing small work on the motorbike and I need a break soon. ********************** Endlich kriege ich von der Australischen Behörde Bescheid, dass sie mir ein Visum gestatten. Und am Freitag können wir sogar das Visum für Timor abholen. Uff, ich bin erleichtert. Nun bleibt noch einiges an Zeit, die wir mit einem Ausflug nach Ubud und an einen schönen Strand machen. In Ubud wurde ich enttäuscht, da zu viele Touristen und Verkehr auf den Strassen sind. Ebenfalls weiss ich nicht, warum so viele Touristen hierherkommen und was es hier an zu schauen gibt. Leider ist auch alles sehr weit auseinander, so dass wir am Schluss fast 600 Kilometer in Denpasar fahren. Im Stadtverkehr kommen wir wegen zu viel Verkehr oder zu wenigen Strassen nur langsam voran. Wir fahren durchschnittlich mit einer Geschwindigkeit von ca. 20 Km/h was bedeutet, dass wir pro Tag ca. 4.5 Stunden auf dem Töff verbringen. Nebenbei mache ich kleiner Arbeiten am Töff und ich brauche bald wieder eine Pause.

Visa inconvenience / Visa Ungemach Denpasar, Indonesia

Denpasar, Indonesia 14.7.2014 Denpasar (Bali), Indonesia Km: 68870 Visa inconvenience / Visa Ungemach After the great experience in the Bromo crater we are heading to the Merapi volcano. Unfortunately, there is no road to the crater and the weather is not so good anymore. So we stay at a waterfall and enjoy a night of rain. As we reach the ferry to Bali the rains stops and we can go onto the ferry immediately. In Bali it’s raining again and a friend of Francesca has invited us to stay with him in his house.
First, we want organize 2 Visa. For Australia we apply online and Francesca gets immediately the grant notification and I do not, although we have completed the exact same. I still need to send more information, what annoys me tremendously, because Francesca has her visa already. Then we go to the Consulate of Timor Leste and show the application form. The secretary said, we have the wrong form and gives us a new one. I realize that it is exactly the same and I ask about the new form. The secretary tells me that the new form have another title. Then we give up our passport photos and he says he needs one with red background! A little stressed we go to a photo studio and make new passport photos with red background.
I hope that we will soon have the visa, since I’m already a little nervous about it. ********************** Nach dem tollen Erlebnis im Bromo Krater fahren wir Richtung Merapi Vulkan. Leider gibt es keine Strasse an den Krater und das Wetter ist auch nicht mehr so gut. So übernachten wir an einem Wasserfall und geniessen eine Nacht lang Regen. Als wir die Fähre nach Bali erreichen ist es wieder trocken und wir können gleich auf die Fähre verladen. In Bali regnet es dann wieder und ein Freund von Francesca hat uns eingeladen bei ihm zu übernachten. Als erstes wollen wir 2 Visa. Jenes für Australien beatragen wir online und Francesca kriegt es umgehend und ich nicht, obwohl wir das genau gleiche ausgefüllt haben. Ich muss noch weitere Informationen senden, was mich gewaltig nervt, da Francesca ihr Visa schon hat. Dann gehen wir auf das Konsulat von Timor Leste und geben das Formular ab. Der Sekretär meint, wir haben das Falsche und gibt uns ein neues. Ich merke, dass es genau das gleiche ist und frage nach. Der Sekretär zeigt mir, dass das neue einen anderen Titel hat. Dann geben wir unsere Passfotos ab und er meint, er brauche eines mit rotem Hintergrund! Etwas gestresst fahren wir zu einem Fotostudio und machen neue Passfotos, mit rotem Hintergrund. Ich hoffe, dass wir bald die Visa haben, da ich jetzt schon ein wenig nervös deswegen bin.

Volcano experience / Vulkanerlebnis Bromo Crator, Indonesia

Bromo Crator, Indonesia 11.7.2014 Bromo Crator, Indonesia Km: 68393 Volcano experience / Vulkanerlebnis Except that the muezzin at 3 and 4 clock is clamoring to hear from the minaret, we spend a quiet night in a tent on a river. Then we continue towards to Bromo volcano. As we reach the crater rim, I realize that I have to drive through the crater to reach the village on other side. This is not as easy as there is no road and I cannot drive in the sand. In the village we find no nice accommodation which suits us and so we tents in the middle of the crater. In the night we see the smoke in the moonlight coming from the volcano. We cook by candlelight something and enjoy the quite moment. We stay at over 2500 meters above sea level and at night it is therefore quite fresh. We have a beautiful sunrise in the morning and a lot of coffee and have a look at the throat of the active volcano on the constantly spits out some smoke. Later then we drive slowly towards Bali.
The lot of work on the motorbike seems to have paid off, because the stuttering is no longer there even at 2500 meters above sea level. Great 🙂 ********************** Ausser, dass der Muezzin um 3 und 4 Uhr lautstark vom Minarett zu hören ist, verbringen wir eine ruhige Nacht im Zelt an einem Fluss. Dann geht es weiter Richtung Bromo Vulkan. Als wir den Kraterrand erreichen merke ich, dass ich mitten durch den Krater fahren muss um das Dorf auf der anderen Seite zu erreichen. Dies ist nicht so einfach, da es keine Strasse gibt und im Sand fahren kann ich praktisch nicht. Im Dorf finden wir keine Unterkunft die uns zusagt und so Zelten wir mitten im Krater und sehen den Rauchenden Schlund im Mondlicht. Dazu kochen wir bei Kerzenlicht was und geniessen die Ruhe. Wir übernachten auf über 2500 MüM und in der Nacht wird es darum recht frisch. Dafür haben wir am Morgen einen herrlichen Sonnenaufgang und dazu viel Kaffee. Wir schauen uns noch den Schlund des aktiven Vulkan an der ständig etwas Rauch ausspuckt und fahren dann langsam Richtung Bali. Die viele Arbeit am Töff scheint sich gelohnt zu haben, denn das Stottern ist auch auf 2500 MüM nicht mehr da. Super 🙂

Again motocyclework / Erneut Töffarbeiten Yogyakarta, Indonesia

Yogyakarta, Indonesia 9.7.2014 Yogyarkata, Indonesia Km: 67909 Again motocyclework / Erneut Töffarbeiten After an additional rest day it goes on, but I notice after a short trip that the motorbike is still not ok. I cannot test everything, because of too much traffic. Finally, it is one of the slowest days with an average speed of about 27 km/h (without breaks!) on 150 kilometers.
In Yogyakarta I try to fix again the stuttering of the motorbike to get away. An Englishman, Andy who owns a coffee helps me and drives me to get to spare parts all over the city around. Also, we find by chance someone who has a measuring instrument for adjusting the cylinder. The balance is not perfect and I do adjust it. Incidentally, I notice that the choke cable is too tight. Of course this is not good when the choke is pulled all the time and therefore the engine constantly running too rich. It is clear to me that this is one of the problems I have. Since the adjustment screw is already at the minimum, I have to saw off the sleeve, but without damaging the cable in the middle. It’s like an open-heart surgery. Then I do measure the vent bolts and realizes that it sits on top of the tank. From time to time so tightly that no air can enter the tank and a vacuum is created in the tank and no fuel can flow. The fuel pump I’ll fix later and possibly get new electrical parts. We do visit again Andy, who helped me to find the necessary shops. He invites us with 5 other travelers to take a dinner. Within an hour, he’s cooking for 12 people a fantastic meal. Now I know what he makes as a ‘Sailor’, he is cooking on the ships. The next day he accompanied us out of the city and gives us both a hammock. Thank you Andy, for the great encounter, food, hammock and the best coffee in town. ********************** Nach einem zusätzlichen Ruhetag geht es weiter, jedoch merke ich nach kurzer Fahrt, dass der Töff immer noch nicht ganz ok ist. Ich kann aber nicht alles testen, da wir in dem Verkehr kaum vorankommen. Schlussendlich ist es einer der langsamsten Tage mit einem durchschnittlichen Tempo von etwa 27 Km/h (ohne Pausen!) auf 150 Kilometern. In Yogyakarta versuche ich zum x-mal das Stottern des Töff weg zu bringen. Ein Engländer, Andy der ein Kaffee betreibt hilft mir dabei und fährt mich in der ganzen Stadt herum um Ersatzteile zu besorgen. Auch finden wir per Zufall jemand, der ein Messgerät zum Abgleichen der Zylinder hat. Die Balance ist nicht perfekt und ich justiere sie neu. Nebenbei merke ich, dass das Choke-Kabel angespannt ist. Dies ist natürlich nicht gut, wenn der Choke die ganze Zeit etwas gezogen ist und der Motor somit ständig zu fett läuft. Es ist mir klar, dass dies eines der Probleme ist, das ich habe. Da die Justierung schon auf dem Minimum ist, muss ich die Hülse absägen, jedoch ohne das Kabel in der Mitte zu beschädigen. Sozusagen eine Operation am offenen Herzen. Dann messe ich noch den Entlüftungsbolzen und stelle fest, dass er oben am Tank aufsitzt. Ab und zu so fest, dass keine Luft in den Tank gelangen kann und sich ein Vakuum im Tank bildet und kein Benzin mehr nachfliessen kann. Die Benzinpumpe werde ich später reparieren und ggf. neue Elektrik Teile besorgen. Wir besuchen nochmals Andy, der mir geholfen hat die nötigen Geschäfte zu finden und er lädt uns mit 5 anderen Reisenden zu einem Nachtessen ein. Innerhalb einer Stunde kocht er für 12 Personen ein fantastisches Essen. Nun weiss ich auch was er als ‚Sailor‘ macht, er ist Koch auf den Schiffen. Am nächsten Tag begleitet er uns noch aus der Stadt und schenkt uns beiden eine Hängematte. Vielen Danke Andy, für die tolle Begegnung, Essen, Hängematte und den besten Kaffee der Stadt.

Bogor, Indonesia 4.7.2014 Bogor, Indonesia Km: 67323 I’m tired / Bin müde We drive the first time today at Java and I’m curious how this is. But before I work on the carburetor again, change hoses, clean everything, adjust and spray WD40 to all the contacts on the ignition. It seems that some of that helps, because the motorbike runs better now. The problem: I do not know what it was.
Unfortunately I miss the right road to Bogor and so we have to go through a real ****** street. Another point is, it starts to rain, which I do not like. Later, the road is better but the traffic increases. So much that we have on the 150 kilometers with an average of just 25 km/h at the end of the day.
The driving, bad roads, dangerous and lots of traffic need a lot of concentration and have made me tired. Yes, traveling is tiring, more than one thinks. I need therefore necessarily 1-3 rest days on which I do not so much except eat, drink and sleep. When I continue: no clue. ********************** Wir fahren heute das erste Mal auf Java und ich bin gespannt, wie das wird. Zuvor nehme ich aber nochmals den Vergaser auseinander, wechsle Schläuche, reinige alles, justiere neu und sprühe WD40 an alle Kontakte der Zündung. Es scheint, dass etwas von dem Hilft, denn der Töff läuft nun besser. Das Problem: ich weiss nicht was es war. Leider verpasse ich den richtigen Abzweiger nach Bogor und so müssen wir über eine Hundsmiserable Strasse fahren. Zudem kommt noch Regen auf, was ich gar nicht gerne habe. Später wird die Strasse besser aber der Verkehr nimmt zu. So sehr, dass wir am Ende des Tages auf den 150 Kilometern einen Schnitt von nur 25 Km/h haben. Das viele Fahren, schlechte Strassen, gefährlicher und viel Verkehr brauchen viel Konzentration und haben mich müde gemacht. Ja, reisen macht müde, mehr als man denkt. Ich brauche darum unbedingt 1-3 Ruhetage, an denen ich nicht viel mache, ausser fressen, saufen und schlafen. Wann es weiter geht: keine Ahnung.

Merak, Indonesia 1.7.2014 Merak, Indonesia Km: 67171 Crazy Traffic / Verrückter Verkehr At night it rained so strong that around the tent a small lake has formed. Of course now it’s all wet and we wait in the morning until everything is dry again. On the way to the south, the traffic is getting crazy. Overtaking from the category “suicide”. And I do not compare with the slow and senile traffic in Switzerland. There driving style here are worse than in India. Uff. I hope that I get through unscathed. Then we reach the port where we can load the bike without waiting. Unfortunately the ferry have to wait one hour before Java because no dock is free. But I enjoy the quiet time and the sunset. Because of waiting we reach the mainland in the dark and I do not drive at night, in principle, so we need to find a hotel here. The first attempt ends in a toilet that does not deserve the name. The room is more of a chicken coop and so we take a slightly more expensive, but that also has a swimming pool. ********************** In der Nacht hat es so heftig geregnet, dass sich rund um das Zelt ein kleiner See gebildet hat. Natürlich ist jetzt alles nass und wir warten am morgen, bis alles wieder trocken ist. Auf dem Weg in den Süden, wird der Verkehr immer verrückter. Überholmanöver von der Kategorie „Selbstmord”. Und ich vergleiche nicht mit dem langsamen und senilen Verkehr in der Schweiz. Es herrschen hier Zustände die schlimmer als in Indien sind. Uff. Ich hoffe, dass ich heil durchkomme. Dann erreichen wir den Hafen, wo wir ohne zu warten gleich auf eine Fähre verladen können. Leider muss die Fähre dann vor Java eine Stunde warten, da keine Anlegestelle frei ist. Ich geniesse aber die ruhige Zeit und den Sonnenuntergang. Durch das Warten erreichen wir das Festland bei Dunkelheit und da ich prinzipiell nicht bei Nacht fahre, müssen wir hier ein Hotel finden. Der erste Versuch endet in einem WC, das den Namen nicht verdient hat. Das Zimmer ist mehr ein Hühnerstall und so nehmen wir ein etwas teureres, dass aber auch ein Swimmingpool hat.

Trans Sumatra Highway / Trans Sumatra Highway Lahat, Indonesia

Lahat, Indonesia 29.6.2014 Lahat, Indonesia Km: 666635 Trans Sumatra Highway / Trans Sumatra Highway The setting on the carburetor did not bring much. The problem is still there, but different. I will then look again in the evening. The setting is still good enough to drive miles and miles on the Trans Sumatra Highway from. Sumatra is great and I can already count 1800 km in Indonesia. Unfortunately, the road is not always varied and thus boring. On the other hand it makes me fun (not for Francesca) for hours with 80 to cruise through the area. For this, the Trans Sumatra Highway are exactly the right thing. I got the GPS also a nice announcement: Follow the road for 456 km! But I also have to be extremely careful, as the other on the street rather have Indian driving style. It comes several times a day a car, truck, or bus on my lane towards, so I have to slow down and move in the ditch. ********************** Die Einstellung am Vergaser brachte nicht viel. Das Problem ist immer noch da, aber anders. Werde dann am Abend nochmals schauen. Die Einstellung ist aber gut genug, um auf dem Trans Sumatra Highway Kilometer um Kilometer ab zu spulen. Sumatra ist gross und so kann ich schon 1800 Kilometer in Indonesien zählen. Leider ist die Strasse nicht immer abwechslungsreich und somit langweilig. Auf der anderen Seite macht es mir auch Spass (nicht aber Francesca) stundenlang mit 80 durch die Gegend zu cruisen. Dazu ist der Trans Sumatra Highway genau der Richtige. Ich kriegte vom GPS auch eine nette Ansage: Dem Strassenverlauf 456 Kilometer folgen! Ich muss aber auch höllisch aufpassen, da die anderen auf der Strasse eher Indischen Fahrstil haben. Es kommt mehrere Male am Tag ein Auto, Lastwagen oder Bus auf meiner Fahrspur entgegen, so dass ich abbremsen und ab und zu in den Strassengraben ausweichen muss.

Bukittinggi, Indonesia 27.6.2014 Bukkitinggi, Indonesia Km: 65872 Crossing Equator / Äquator Überquerung Today is a very special event on the program. Crossing equator. Because the equator seems to me so far away, I wait a long time for it and I’ll be there with my motorbike today. So go ahead and cover the 150 kilometers of varied route. And then I see the large plaque on the building “you are crossing the equator”. Small blemishes, the building is not exactly on the equator, but in addition about 130 meters. We celebrate this moment with coffee and cake. We are now on a different hemisphere than you and have now winter! We drive 50 miles further to Bukkitinggi and want to go to a Crater Lake for camping. Unfortunately, the weather destroys our plans and we have to go in a hotel. The next day we try again. Unfortunately, again in vain, as it starts to rain again.
But now I have time to check the carburetor. For some time the motorbike stutters in certain situations. So I take it all apart and cannot find anything. Then I adjust the ratio of petrol and air, because I suspect it is due to. Unfortunately you need a special tool to adjust it, that I do not have . I help myself by saw a slot in the screw and now can use a normal screwdriver. The problem is, I do not know the original setting and can only adjust by feeling. After a test drive, I realize that I need to adjust the mixture a little fatter. But this I must again remove the tank, adjust, assemble everything again and again take a test drive. The whole I repeat 4 times. Whether I have the right adjustment, I do not know and it will show up tomorrow when driving. ********************** Heute steht ein ganz spezielles Ereignis auf dem Programm. Die Äquatorüberquerung. Darauf habe ich mich schon lange gefreut, da der Äquator für mich so weit weg scheint und ich heute mit meinem Töff da sein werde. Also los und die 150 Kilometer auf abwechslungsreicher Strecke zurücklegen. Und dann sehe ich die grosse Tafel auf dem Bauwerk „you are crossing the equator”. Kleiner Schönheitsfehler, das Bauwerk befindet sich nicht genau auf dem Äquator, sondern ca. 130 Meter daneben. Wir feiern diesen Moment mit Kaffee und Kuchen. Wir befinden uns nun auf einer anderen Halbkugel als ihr und haben auf einen Schlag Winter. Wir fahren noch 50 Km weiter nach Bukkitinggi und wollen an einem Kratersee Zelten gehen. Doch leider macht uns das Wetter einen Strich durch die Rechnung und wir müssen in ein Hotel. Am nächsten Tag versuchen wir es nochmals. Leider wieder vergeblich, da es wieder zu regnen beginnt. Dafür habe ich nun Zeit, den Vergaser zu überprüfen. Seit ei***** Zeit stottert der Töff in bestimmten Situationen. Ich nehme also alles auseinander und kann nichts feststellen. Dann stelle ich das Gemisch neu ein, denn ich vermute es hängt damit zusammen. Leider braucht man ein Spezialwerkzeug, das ich nicht dabei habe. Ich helfe mir, indem ich ein Schlitz in die Schraube säge und nun ein normaler Schraubenzieher verwenden kann. Das Problem ist dabei, ich kenne die ursprüngliche Einstellung nicht mehr und kann nur nach Gefühl einstellen. Nach einer Probefahrt merke ich, dass ich das Gemisch noch etwas fetter einstellen muss. Dazu muss ich aber wieder den Tank demontieren, einstellen, alles wieder montieren und nochmals eine Probefahrt machen. Das ganze wiederhole ich 4 Mal. Ob ich die Richtige Einstellung habe weiss ich nicht und es wird sich morgen bei der Fahrt zeigen.

Lake Toba, Indonesia 24.6.2014 Lake Toba, Indonesia Km: 64917 No cloud of smoke / Keine Rauchwolke When we leaving from Medan, we first stop in a big traffic jam. With more than 30 degrees air temperature in the morning it’s not a pleasure. Then I have to fill up the tank and notice that gasoline is cheap here (~ 50 cents a liter), there is joy. There then follows a varied ride in the mountains of Sumatra. Unfortunately, we can see an active Volcano because too many clouds cover the top. As the weather gets better even see anything, because it does not emit smoke. Later we stop at Lake Toba. We find a nice spot at the lake and we decide here to setup the tent. A wonderful sunset and a starry night with a cozy music round out the day. Because of the good view we can watch satellite when we are in front of the tent. Some are very clearly seen in the sky. ********************** Beim Verlassen von Medan gerieten wir wieder in einen Verkehrsstau. Bei über 30 Grad nicht gerade angenehm am morgen früh. Dann muss ich noch Benzin tanken und stelle fest, dass das Benzin günstig ist (~50 Rappen der Liter), Freude herrscht. Es folgt dann eine abwechslungsreiche Fahrt in den Bergen von Sumatra. Leider können wir von einem Aktiven Vulkan nicht viel sehen, da zu viele Wolken den Berg verdecken. Als das Wetter besser wird sehen auch nichts, da er gerade keine Rauchwolke abgibt. Später halten wir am Toba See. Da wir einen schönen Platz am Ufer des Sees finden, entscheiden wir hier das Zelt auf zuschlagen. Ein wunderbarer Sonnenuntergang und eine sternenklare Nacht mit gemütlicher Music runden den Tag ab. Als wir vor dem Zelt liegen können wir wegen der guten Sicht sogar Satelliten beobachten. Einige sind deutlich am Himmel zu sehen.

Medan, Indonesia 23.6.2014 Medan, Indonesia Km: 64917 Pick up the bike / Töff abholen The flight to Medan was normal and we took advantage of all the possibilities. Walking to the bus, then the bus to the airport, a flight to Indonesia and a taxi from the airport in to the city. The next day I’ll get the motorbike from the harbour. I take a Marina (minibus) to the port and meet with the agent. He helps me with picking up the motorbikes. It all went well and after 3 hours I have all the documents and went through customs. The 30 km back to Medan need nearly as much time again, because everywhere is traffic jam. The traffic reminded me a little of India, but not with so much honking. Let’s see how it is tomorrow when we will take the countryside. ********************** Der Flug nach Medan war normal und wir nutzten alle Möglichkeiten. Zu Fuss an den Busterminal, dann den Bus zum Flughafen, den Flieger nach Indonesien und mit dem Taxi in die Stadt. Am nächsten Tag hole ich den Töff am Hafen ab. Ich nehme ein Marina (kleinbus) zum Hafen und treffe mich mit dem Agent. Er hilft mir beim Abholen des Töffs. Es ging alles gut und nach 3 Stunden habe ich alle Dokumente und bin durch den Zoll. Die 30 Kilometer zurück nach Medan brauchen fast nochmals so viel Zeit, da überall Verkehrsstaus sind und viel zu viel Verkehr. Der Verkehr erinnert mich ein wenig an Indien, aber nicht mit so viel Huperei. Mal sehen wie es morgen wird, wenn wir über Land fahren werden.

George Town, Malaysia 21.6.2014 George Town, Malaysia Km: 64884 Waiting / Warten Because the motorbike is loaded and it will take until next week until I can pick up, I’ll wait in Georgetown. Now I know that there is no more ferry to Indonesia and I have to book a flight. However, this is also good, because I now have a ticket that is needed for the visa for Indonesia. It will require a return ticket, but I’ll try it with the one way ticket. After two failed attempts in Phnom Penh and Bangkok, we get the visa here without problems. Also with the wrong ticket was not a problem. This means everything is now ready for the adventure of Indonesia, but we still have to wait a few days and spend the time with beach visits, street art view and fine dining. I’ve ringgit from a business trip 10 years ago. This money is in no accounting recorded (I will not notice it if it is missing) and is now invested for a fine and expensive meal. We find a restaurant with an interesting menu. There are steak with 150 grams and steak with 200 grams! That’s it. Actually, this is enough and we eat a tender piece of meat with a Café de Paris sauce. Served with french fries and a small salad. One of the best investments I have made. Yummy, yummy … ********************** Da der Töff verladen ist und es bis nächste Woche dauert, bis ich ihn abholen kann, werde ich in Georgetown warten. Mittlerweile weiss ich, dass es keine Fähre mehr nach Indonesien gibt und ich muss einen Flug buchen. Dies ist aber auch gut, da ich nun ein Ticket habe, das für das Visum für Indonesien gebraucht wird. Es wird zwar ein Rückflugticket verlangt, aber ich probiere es mal mit dem Hinflug Ticket. Nach 2 gescheiterten Versuchen in Phnom Penh und Bangkok bekommen wir das Visum hier ohne Probleme. Auch das mit dem falschen Ticket war kein Problem. So ist nun vieles bereit für das Abenteuer Indonesien, aber wir müssen noch einige Tage warten und vertreiben uns die Zeit mit Strandbesuchen, Street Art ansehen und fein essen. Ich habe noch Ringgit von einer Geschäftsreise vor 10 Jahren. Dieses Geld ist in keiner Buchhaltung erfasst (ich werde es nicht merken wenn es fehlt) und wird nun für ein feines Essen investiert. Wir finden ein Restaurant mit einer Interessanten Speisekarte. Es gibt Steak 150 Gramm und Steak 200 Gramm! Eigentlich reicht dies aus und wir essen ein zartes Stück Fleisch mit einer Café de Paris Sauce. Dazu Pommes und ein kleiner Salat. Eine der besten Investitionen die ich gemacht habe. Yummy, yummy…

Shipping the bike / Töff verladen George Town, Malaysia

George Town, Malaysia 18.6.2014 George Town, Malaysia Km: 64884 Shipping the bike / Töff verladen An unspectacular ride brings us to Georgetown where I want to load the motorbike on a boat. I feel a little uneasy because I do not know really what to expect. First I’m going to the agency to clarify all questions. Now everything should be clear and I have to wait until I can load on next week. In the meantime we spend some time with beach visits. But the beaches in Penang are not as nice and not so clean. Then the day comes where I want / need to load the motorbike. A ferry brings me to Butterworth and then I see an old wooden ship in the harbor. Mhh. The agent says this is the boat and after it is unloaded, we can load the motorbike. This means wait four hours again, but everything is going well and the motorbike is in the evening safely stowed on the ship. On Sunday the ship sails and on Monday and I can pick it up the bike in Belawan. Let’s see if everything works. ********************** Eine unspektakuläre Fahrt bringt uns nach George Town, wo ich den Töff auf ein Boot verladen will. Ich habe dabei noch ein etwas ungutes Gefühl, da ich nicht richtig weiss was mich erwartet. Als erstes gehe ich bei der Agentur vorbei um alle Fragen zu klären. Es sollte nun alles klar sein und ich muss warten, bis ich nächste Woche verladen kann. Die Zeit vertreiben wir mit einigen Strand besuchen. Die Strände auf Penang sind aber nicht so schön und nicht so sauber. Dann kommt der Tag wo ich den Töff verladen will/muss. Eine Fähre bringt mich nach Butterworth und dann sehe ich ein altes Holzschiff im Hafen. Mhh. Der Agent meint dies sei das Boot und nachdem es entladen ist, können wir den Töff verladen. Dies bedeutet wieder 4 Stunden warten, es geht aber alles gut und der Töff ist am Abend sicher auf dem Schiff verstaut. Am Sonntag fährt das Schiff und am Montag kann ich es in Belawan abholen. Mal sehen ob das alles klappt.

Kem Selim, Malaysia 11.6.2014 Cameron Highlands, Malaysia Km: 64420 Camping / Camping We drive, yes l let also Francesca drive the bike, to the mountains of Cameron Highlands. This brings something cool down as we are once again at 1500 meters above sea after the many beaches before. From the countryside I am a little bit disappointed. I hoped for more tea fields. Unfortunately all hotels are expensive and so we decided to look for a campsite. We find a place where we can set up the tent under a shelter. This is extremely convenient as it starts to rain later and we can cook dinner in the dry. I cook fried rice with vegetables. Yummy! Also, it has also a connector to load all of our devices. We like it so well that we stay for an extra night. ********************** Wir fahren, ja ich lasse auch Francesca ein Stück selber fahren, in den Bergen der Cameron Highlands entgegen. Dies bringt etwas Abkühlung, da wir nach den vielen Stränden wieder mal auf 1500 Meter über Meer sind. Von der Landschaft bin ich etwas enttäuscht. Ich habe mir mehr Teefelder erhofft. Leider sind alle Hotels teuer und so entscheiden wir, einen Campingplatz zu suchen. Wir finden einen, wo wir das Zelt unter einem Unterstand aufstellen können. Dies ist extrem komfortabel, da es später zu regnen beginnt und wir im trockenen das Abendessen kochen können. Ich koche gebratenen Reis mit Gemüse. Lecker! Auch hat es einen Stromanschluss um unsere Geräte auf zu laden. Uns gefällt dies so gut, dass wir gleich noch eine Nacht länger bleiben.

Taman Negara, Malaysia 9.6.2014 Taman Nagara, Malaysia Km: 64089 Dirty water / Dreckiges Wasser The next stop on my journey is the national park Taman Negara in the middle of Malaysia. We are looking for and find a cheap room. Here we notice that next to us many other western tourists also prefer the cheap rooms. On the other side, we see many locals, staying in expensive resort. I think it changed completely in the last view years. However, the cheap rooms not only have advantages. In this case, comes from the tap extremely dirty water. This probably comes directly from the river and when I see what the people put all into the river…. Probably because of that, we both get rashes that are unpleasant.
Anyway we make excursions into the rainforest. Once we walk along a river to a waterfall. The ‘way’ is mostly a narrow path, but there are also sections where is no path and sometimes you have to walk in the river bed. But then a fantastic moment, we swim without any other people around, deep in the rainforest a bath under a small waterfall. ********************** Die nächste Station auf meiner Reise ist der Nationalpark Taman Negara in der Mitte von Malaysia. Wir suchen und finden ein günstiges Zimmer. Dabei fällt uns auf, dass neben uns viele andere westliche Touristen ebenfalls die günstigen Zimmer bevorzugen. Auf der anderen Seite sehen wir vor allem Lokale, die im teuren Resort übernachten. Ich glaube das sich in den letzten Jahren komplett geändert. Die günstigen Zimmer haben aber nicht nur Vorteile. In diesem Fall kommt aus dem Wasserhahn extrem dreckiges Wasser. Dieses kommt wohl direkt vom Fluss und wenn ich sehe was da alles in den Fluss gelangt…. Vermutlich deswegen, bekommen wir beide Hautausschläge, die unangenehm sind. Wir lassen es uns aber nicht nehmen und machen Ausflüge in den Regenwald. Einmal wandern wir entlang eines Flusses zu einem Wasserfall. Der ‚Weg’ ist meistens ein schmaler Pfad, es gibt aber auch Abschnitte ohne erkennbaren Weg und ab und zu muss man im Flussbett laufen. Dann aber ein fantastischer Moment, wir nehmen ganz alleine, tief im Regenwald ein Bad unter einem kleinen Wasserfall.

When we go shopping in the supermarket, we see beef (burger). It is immediately clear that we cook today burgers and if we do it, we’ll do it right. So we buy Burger bread, onions, salad, tomato and ketchup. Unfortunately, there is no ketchup, so we need to create it yourself. I modify tomato sauce with vinegar, sugar and spices, so that we finally have nice fine ketchup. Then fry the meat in the pan, also shortly the bread, and create the burger. Yummy. Because we have a whole kilo of meat we eat the burgers are fantastic until we crammed. In the end, everything is eaten and there is in our faces and stomach a big satisfaction. ********************** Wir entscheiden uns einige Tage am Strand an der Ostküste von Malaysia zu verbringen. Als wir im Supermarkt einkaufen gehen, sehen wir Hackfleisch (Burger). Beiden ist sofort klar, dass wir heute Burger kochen und wenn wir es machen, dann machen wir es richtig. So kaufen wir auch ‚Burger-Brot’, Zwiebeln, Salat, Tomaten und Ketchup. Leider gibt es hier kein Ketchup, so dass wir es selber herstellen müssen. Ich modifiziere Tomatensauce mit Essig, Zucker und Gewürzen, so dass wir schlussendlich ein super feines Ketchup haben. Dann das Fleisch in der Pfanne braten, noch kurz das Brot tosten Hamburger bauen und essen. Lecker. Da wir ein ganzes Kilo Fleisch haben essen wir die fantastischen Hamburger bis wir vollgestopft sind. Am Schluss ist alles aufgegessen und in unseren Gesichtern und Magen herrscht grosse Zufriedenheit.

I can leave Thailand without any problems, so the policemen of Phuket have not started a larger action. In Kuala Lumpur the police stop me again, but this time I managed without difficulty and with quite normal communication. But we have at Guesthouse a problem because they want charge one night too much. The proprietress is very fast hysterical and aggressive. A normal communication is no longer possible. But I remain calm so that the situation did not escalate. In Kuala Lumpur, both notice the many Indians. There are perceived 50% of the population. At the end I felt uncomfortable in India, because of the large cultural differences between Indians and Swiss. Now I’m falling back in thought and nerve me again from them. Unfortunately, we are also unsuccessful when applied for by Visa. I want to leave Kuala Lumpur with three Visas and now I have not one. Indonesia is on arrival, but only for 30 days. Australia we can apply online and East Timor, there never made one in Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta. Ich kann Thailand ohne Probleme verlassen, somit haben die Polizisten von Phuket keine grössere Aktion gestartet. In Kuala Lumpur werde ich wieder von der Polizei angehalten, doch diesmal schaffte ich es ohne Schwierigkeiten und ganz normal zu kommunizieren. Dafür haben wir im Guesthouse ein Problem, da sie eine Nacht zu viel verrechnen wollten. Die Besitzerin wird sehr schnell hysterisch und aggressiv. Ein normales Kommunizieren ist nicht mehr möglich. Ich bleibe aber ruhig damit die Lage nicht eskalierte. In Kuala Lumpur fallen uns beiden die vielen Inder aufgefallen. Es sind gefühlte 50% der Bevölkerung. Gegen Ende fühlte ich mich in Indien, wegen den grossen kulturellen Unterschieden zwischen Indern und Schweizern, nicht mehr wohl. Gleich falle ich gedanklich zurück und nerve mich wieder ab ihnen. Leider sind wir auch erfolglos beim beantragen von Visa. Ich möchte mit drei Visa Kuala Lumpur verlassen und habe nun kein einziges. Indonesien gib es on arrival, aber nur für 30 Tage. Australien sollten wir Online beantragen können und Timor Ost gibt es keines, obwohl wir eines brauchen. Wie wir dies lösen weiss ich noch nicht.

We do this several times and then stop at a beautiful beach. Brunch and go for a swim, what more could you want? From Phang Nga I want to make a trip to the ‘James Bond Island’. We asked already in Phuket for the price and were surprised how expensive it is. Yesterday at a local Travel Agent it was much cheaper and today we try our luck at the pier. There are many boat drivers so that we are in a good position and we go finally for one sixth of the original price to the island. Since we started with the swimming dresses, we swim once around the famous rock, which is a great experience. A visit to a cave and a bizarre sculpture park, rounds up the day’s program. ********************** Auf der Fahrt nach Phang Nga kaufen wir essen für einen Brunch ein. Dies machen wir öfters und halten dann an einem schönen Strand. Brunchen und schwimmen gehen, was will man mehr? Von Phang Nga möchte ich einen Ausflug auf die ‚James Bond Insel‘ machen. Wir fragten schon in Phuket nach dem Preis und waren überrascht wie teuer es ist. Gestern bei einem Lokalen Travel Agent war es dann wesentlich günstiger und heute probieren wir unser Glück am Pier. Es gibt viele Anbieter, so dass wir in einer guten Position sind und wir fahren schlussendlich für einen sechstel des ursprünglichen Preis, auf die Insel. Da wir mit den Badekleidern gestartet sind, schwimmen wir einmal um den berühmten Felsen, was ein tolles Erlebnis ist. Ein Besuch in einer Höhle und einem skurrilen Skulpturenpark runden das Tagesprogramm ab.

In any case, I’m leading 2-1. ********************** Ich bin etwas überrascht als ich in Patong Beach am Abend in der Party-Strasse herum laufe. Mehr Go-Go Bars und Touristen als in Pattaya. Auch spüren wir die Ausgangssperre deutlicher als in Kao Lak. Die Polizei ist aber nicht so strickt wie in Bangkok, aber die Go-Go-Bars schliessen um 22:00! Dafür prüfen sie die Helmpflicht besser und stoppen mich, weil ich ein kleines Stück ohne Helm fahre. Ich versuche dann die Variante mit Schweizerdeutsch (Ich verstehe nichts und spreche nur in schweizerdeutsch). Dies hat bisher immer geholfen, da die Polizei grundsätzlich faul ist und keinen grossen Aufwand mit Sprachprobleme will. In diesem Fall sind sie aber richtig aggressiv und haben einen Hauch von Neofaschismus. Da ich die Dokumente nicht heraus gebe, hielt ein Polizist mein Motorrad fest und riss an Plastikteilen herum. Da ich dies nicht mag, versuche ich ihn davon ab zu halten, vorauf er mich zu schubsen beginnt und mich aggressiv anbrüllt. Ich versuchte ihnen klar zu machen, dass sie mich nicht anfassen sollen worauf ich kleine Hiebe bekam. Das ist zu viel für mich und ich versuche los zu fahren. Ich komme aber nicht weit, dass sie mir eine Kette zwischen die Speichen werfen. Dann montiert einer gleich ein Vorhängeschloss und der andere schlägt mich einige Male, so dass ich am Abend rote Flecken hatte. Ich sehe stolz und Befriedigung in ihren Gesichtern als sie losfahren und wohl denken, jetzt sitzt er fest und soll warten (oder abgeschleppt werden). Sie haben wohl nicht gerechnet, dass ich gut mit Werkzeug ausgerüstet bin und ich frage Francesca was es für eine Kette ist. Eine chinesische sagt sie. J Ich hole also mein Sägeblatt hervor und habe die Kette in we***** als 2 Minuten zersägt. Mit viel Adrenalin in Blut haue ich ab ins Hotel. Warum die Situation eskaliert ist nicht nur meine Schuld, es war aber falsch von mir da sie mit dem Helm im Recht waren. Mal sehen ob das Spiel weiter geht und ich spätestens am Zoll aufgehalten werde. Auf jeden Fall liege ich mit 2:1 in Führung.

Khao Lak, Thailand 25.5.2014 Khao Lak, Thailand Km: 62058 Tsunami region / Tsunami Region We do not know exactly where to stay and so we just keep going to the next beach. At this beach, camping would be good possible because no buildings are on the beach. Later I hear that here the tsunami raged fiercely. Only a rescue-tower was built later. We go even further until we arrive in Khao Lak. Later I realize that this name sounds familiar to me. Here the tsunami was the worst in Thailand and many videos were shown on television or even to find on the inernet today. Today you do not see much of it anymore. Only a military ship that was washed into three kilometers inside the country, reminded of the terrible time. When I fill in the diary, I realize that today we are driven 570 Km! Despite the tiredness I still go swim. It is the first time since the accident that I can back into the water. Fantastic. And this in the middle of a beautiful sunset. ********************** Wir wissen nicht genau wo wir übernachten sollen und so fahren wir einfach weiter an den nächsten Strand. An diesem währe Camping gut möglich, da keine Gebäude am Strand sind. Später erfahre ich dass hier der Tsunami heftig gewütet hat. Ausser ein Rettungsturm wurde nichts mehr aufgebaut. Wir fahren noch weiter bis wir in Khao Lak ankommen. Später merke ich, dass mir dieser Name bekannt vorkommt. Hier war der Tsunami in Thailand am schlimmsten und viele Videos waren im Fernsehen zu sehen oder heute noch im Internet zu finden. Heute sieht man nicht mehr viel davon. Einzig ein Militärschiff, dass 3 Kilometer ins landesinnere gespült wurde, errinnert an die schlimme Zeit. Beim ausfüllen des Tagebuch, merke ich, dass wir heute 570 Km gefahren sind. Trotz der Müdigkeit gehe ich noch schwimmen. Es ist das erste mal seit dem Unfall, dass ich wieder ins Wasser kann. Fantastisch, und dies vor einem herrlichen Sonnenuntergang.

On the way the motorbike has stopped and I could no longer start. The battery was dead! Ok. Now I know for what the cable was that I could not connect because the contact pin on the starter relay is broken (new relay is in the parcel). A temporary solution and push on the bike helps to continue. After arrived in the distribution center they send me to the Bangkok Mail Center (again 25 back at ~38 degrees). Arrived in the Mail Center, they told me that I am in the Central Post Office and not in the Mail center! But they helped me further and a boy rode on the moped ahead and showed me the way. Dies vor allem wegen der schlechten Stimmung von Beiden, gut dass es jetzt weiter nach Bangkok geht. Als wir Bangkok erreichen, suche ich als erstes den DHL Service Point auf um mein Packet ab zu holen. Sie sagen mir, dass ich eine ungültige Packet Nummer habe. Ich kontrolliere nochmals und sehe, dass es die Richte ist. Nachdem mir einer von der Hotline 3 Mal das gleiche stupide erzählt hat und partout nicht weiterhelfen wollte hängte ich während des Gesprächs frustriert auf. Die nächste Station war Thailandpost, diese halfen mir weiter und ich bin ins Verteilzentrum verwiesen worden. Dazu musste ich 25 Kilometer in der Stadt fahren (Bangkok ist eine grosse Stadt!). Unterwegs hat der Töff abgestellt und ich konnte nicht mehr starten. Die Batterie war leer! Ok. Nun weiss ich für was das Kabel war, dass ich nicht mehr anschliessen konnte, weil der Kontaktstift am Anlasser Relais abgebrochen ist (neues Relais ist im Packet!). Provisorische Reparatur und anschieben haben geholfen weiter zu fahren. Im Verteilzentrum angekommen wurde ich an das Bangkok Mail Center geschickt (wieder 25 Zurück bei ~38 Grad). Im Mail Center angekommen, sagten sie mir, dass ich im Central Post Office bin. Aber sie halfen mir weiter und ein Junge fuhr mit dem Moped voraus und zeigte mir den Weg. Leider war mittlerweile das Mailcenter geschlossen und wir suchten zuerst mal eine Unterkunft. Am nächsten Tag ging die Suche im Bangkok Mailcenter weiter. Natürlich war ich am falschen Ort! Wieder 25 Kilometer in der Stadt und dann war ich am richtigen Ort. Nun musste ich noch durch den Zoll und musste es verzollen. Eine unglaubliche Berechnung: Warenwert plus Transportkosten und davon 40%. Dies bedeutet, wenn man es teuren Bsp. als Express sendet, muss man mehr Zoll zahlen. Statt mich zu freuen, war ich wegen allem mehr gestresst und fuhr 30 Kilometer zurück ins Guesthouse. In der Zwischenzeit wollte Francesca das Visum für Indonesien beantragen. Leider erfolglos, was mich aber freute, dass sie selbst mal erlebt wie das so geht. Am dritten Tag will ich noch weitere Ersatzteile kaufen. Ich habe kürzlich festgestellt, dass das Ritzel mehr abgenutzt ist als die Kette und der Kettenkranz. Zudem ein kurzer Besuch im Spital um meine Röntgenbilder ab zu holen und zurück ins Guesthouse. Insgesamt bin ich ca. 200 Kilometer in Bangkok herumgefahren um das nötigste zu besorgen. Uff.

Ban Phe, Thailand 18.5.2014 Ban Peh, Thailand Km: 60788 After the big rain / Nach dem grossen Regen Today it rains from when we start. It is clear that it has not rain before. I then give up in frustration and have to think of me any solution.
In the last days I had always small electrical problems and I checked the starter relay again. I see that a contact pin is broken. I let one cable unplugged, as it sheen this doubled and without this everything is working normally. Let’s see how it goes. ********************** Schon bei der Abfahrt regnet es. Es ist klar, dass es kurz zuvor begonnen hat. Bis wir entscheiden, die Regenkleider an zu ziehen bin ich bereits nass. Es war aber sinnvoll, da der Regen stärker wurde und wir nur 30 Minuten lang die Sonne gesehen haben. Gegen Abend folgte nahtlos ein Gewitter dem Anderen. Es war aber noch spannend, da ich dazu lautstark Linking Park gehört habe. Die Musik zusammen mit den Blitzen, Donner und grossen Regentropfen gab ein einmaliges Erlebnis. Es versteht sich, dass nach der Ankunft der Regen aufgehört hat. Wir übernachten in einem wenig touristischen Ort und kaufen leckeres und billiges Essen auf dem lokalen Markt. Am nächsten Tag ärgere ich mich am thailändischen Zoll, da sie mir nur ein 15 Tage Visum geben. Italien ist eines von 7 Ländern, die 30 Tage kriegen. Warum auch immer! Ich versuchte erfolglos mit verschiedenen Beamten meine Situation zu erklären, und zu zeigen, dass 15 Tage nicht genug sind. Ich gebe dann frustriert auf und muss mir irgendeine Lösung einfallen lassen. In den letzten Tagen hatte ich immer wieder kleine elektrische Aussetzer und ich überprüfte das Anlasser Relais erneut. Ich sehe, dass ein Kontaktstift abgebrochen ist. Ich lasse ein Kabel ausgesteckt, da es schein, das dieses doppelt geführt ist und ohne dieses alles normal funktioniert. Mal sehen wie es weitergeht.

Prima destinazione in lizza è Kep.
Posto di villeggiatura quasi esclusivamente per locali, le sciure fanno il bagno vestite, non riesco a capire eattamente il motivo, se la ragione è pudicizia o mancanza di “educazione balneare” percui non usano il costume da bagno, in ogni caso trovo odiosa la sensazione degli abiti sulla pelle e non mi uniformo alla massa, ad ogni modo nulla accade e sono felice che sia concesso.
Ci sono davvero pochi turisti occidentali oltre a noi, sembra abbiano perso la strada di casa, non è ben chiaro se volontariamente o meno. La guesthouse è bucolica e vicina ad un porticciolo di pescatori con market annesso, pesce alla griglia cucinato al momento pronto per essere gustato sulla spiaggia! Ripartiamo freschi e tosti la mattina, dopo una super colazione self made con vista mare. Lungo la strada si aprono le cataratte del cielo e giù acqua che Dio la manda…porca zozza, non me ne tiene proprio di continuare, ma è comunque poco allettante l’idea di fermarsi a guardare la pioggia sperando che smetta.
Arrivo a Sihanoukville, luogo di svacco e fancazzisti, più tonti che fatti a dire il vero. Zeppo di tuc tuc drivers che si sentono tanto deus ex machina.
C’è da dire che cediamo al vizio: vino, hamburger e western food a profusione. Il giorno successivo raggiungiamo una bella spiaggia bianca sferzata dal vento dove fortuitamente campeggia una famiglia conosciuta in Myanmar, chiacchiere e una cena molto chic coronano la giornata!
Dopo tre giorni è giunta ora di levare le tende, destinazione Koh Kong. ********************** No translation this time 🙂

In Phnom Penh ist das Ziel, den grossen Service am Töff zu machen. Ich suche ein Werkstatt, doch bei der ersten bin ich enttäusch, da er immer mehr Geld will, also weiter. In einer Strasse sehe ich ein KTM Shop, halte und frage. Genau zu diesem Zeitpunkt sehe ich ein Belgier und frage ihm ob er einen guten Mechaniker kennt. Ja, und er zeigt mir wo die Werkstatt ist. Der Belgier erzählt mir, dass er über 7 Jahre mit dem Töff unterwegs war und jetzt in Cambodia hängen geblieben ist. Der grosse Service gibt viel Arbeit: Reifen wechseln, Öl wechseln, Dichtungen wechseln damit ich hoffentlich den Ölverlust in den Griff bekomme, Ventile einstellen, Zündkerzen wechseln, Lenkergewicht drehen lassen und montieren, und ein Spiegelhalter montieren… Am nächsten Tag gehen wir auf die Indonesische Botschaft um ein Visum zu beantragen. Der Konsul scheint zu faul zu sein und sucht Ausreden, damit wir woanders ein Visum beantragen. Er meint es dauert mindestens 2 Wochen und wir geben dann auf, da er die Macht hat und wir nicht so lange warten wollen. Die ganze Arbeit mit ausfüllen der Applikation Form und ausdrucken der Papiere war umsonst!!! Nächster Versuch findet in Bangkok statt. Ich habe noch etwas Zeit und so repariere ich den Laptop. Der Stecker der Stromversorgung hat einen Defekt. Beim öffnen des Laptop sehe ich, dass der Türke den Stecker nur ein wenig angelötet hat und dieser nun komplett abgebrochen ist. So kann es natürlich nicht funktionieren. Ich kann den Stecker wieder anlöten und nun scheint alles wieder ok zu sein.

Again, see how long it will take… ********************** In Battambang scheint es noch heisser zu sein. Und die Luftfeuchtigkeit ist ebenfalls sehr hoch. Puh…. Wir besuchen einige Höhlen und hoffen dass es da etwas kühler ist. Nach der Besichtigung des Tempels bei den Höhlen suchen wir eine Vinery und versuchen Kambodschanischen Wein. Der ist aber enttäuschend und wird zum Lowlight des Tages. Der Bambootrain ist dann aber wieder etwas interessanter. Am nächsten morgen finden wir heraus dass die 5$ für das Hotelzimmer nicht wert war. Die ganze Nacht halten uns Insekten, die sich im Bett eingenistet haben, auf trab. Ich hatte schon fast alles im Zimmer (Hunde, Katzen, Vögel, Mäuse, Ratten, Moskitos, Wanzen, Schlangen, Geckos, Grillen,…) aber die Insekten im Bett sind bisher das Unangenehmste. Nach dem längerem Zwangstopp und dem vielen Fahren in Laos habe ich den Rhythmus des Reisens noch nicht ganz gefunden. Es braucht wohl noch eine Woche, bis ich mich wieder ganz wohl fühle. Mals sehen wie lange es dauern wird…

Siem Reap, Cambodia 6.5.2014 Siam Reap, Cambodia Km: 59256 Joy and sorrow / Freud und Leid Before I start driving, I have a look to the local market and then I first have to cross a river. Then I continue slowly on gravel roads. These are due to the rain in the night, soaked and I have absolutely no profile on the tires. The environment I find great. 200 km with only a few villages and people but with a lot of nature.
I’m just being short breaks to be faster in Siam Reap, because there I meet Francesca again. When I’m in the near of the guesthouse, I see her just across the street and I horn several times. She jumps towards me then and we welcome us happy. Due to the noise many others have looked to us with a smile on the face and wave. The people in Cambodia are generally very friendly, cute and funny. Cambodia has thus become one of my favorite countries in Southeast Asia. Joy and sorrow
I start my travel exactly one year ago and it is now my one-year anniversary. Unfortunately, fate would have it that at the same time, the funeral of my father takes place. Due to various organizational reasons, I cannot take home and I’ll look for a quiet place between the many temples to commemorate alone. Tomorrow is a travel day again and I am afraid that the temperatures are as high as today again… ********************** Beim Abfahren schaue ich mir noch den lokalen Markt an und muss dann zuerst einen Fluss überqueren. Dann geht es auf Schotterstrassen langsam weiter. Diese sind wegen des Regens in der Nacht, aufgeweicht und ich habe auch absolut kein Profil mehr auf dem Reifen. Die Umgebung finde ich aber toll. 200 Kilometer mit nur wenigen Dörfern und Leute aber mit viel Natur. Ich mache nur kurze Pausen um schneller in Siam Reap zu sein, denn dort treffe ich Francesca wieder. Als ich in die Nähe des Guesthouses komme, sehe ich sie gleich auf der Strasse und ich hupe mehrmals. Sie springt mir dann entgegen und wir begrüssen uns glücklich. Durch den Lärm haben viele andere zu uns geschaut uns mit einem lächeln auf dem Gesicht zugewinkt. Die Leute in Kambodscha sind generell sehr freundlich, nett und lustig. Cambodia ist somit zu einem meiner Favoriten in Südostasien geworden. Freud und Leid
Ich bin genau vor einem Jahr abgefahren und so ist Heute mein einjähriges Jubiläum. Leider will es das Schicksal, dass zum gleichen Zeitpunkt die Beerdigung meines Vaters statt findet. Wegen verschiedenen organisatorischen Gründen kann ich nicht Zuhause teilnehmen und ich suche mir einen ruhigen Ort zwischen den vielen Tempeln um alleine zu gedenken. Die grosse Party die ich machen wollte mache ich natürlich nicht und begnüge mich mit einer Pizza und einem Bier. Morgen ist wieder ein Reisetag und ich befürchte, dass die Temperaturen wieder so hoch wie heute sind…

Maybe they think the name is post office because they stamp anything. I did not care who stamp my carnet, the main thing I have a stamp in it. The Immigration Officer then stamped my passport and wants to charge $ 2 for it, because today’s weekend and the $ 2 is for the over time he has to do. But I do not play the game and look at straight in the eye and say definitely “no”. He then tried another 2 times before he returns me the passport. On the side of Cambodia I have to wait half an hour for someone to come and will stamp my stuff. Only the visa can I get fast, probably because I have to pay $ 20 for it. Since I came to meet many wrong-way drivers 🙂 ********************** Nach der gestrigen Monsterfahrt geht es heute gemütlicher her und zu. Mal sehen wie weit ich heute komme und ob ich es schaffe, den Grenzübertritt nach Kambodscha zu bewältigen. Die Fahrt verläuft wenig spannend (gleich langweilig). Der Süden des Landes ist flach und es geht bei hohen Temperaturen nur gerade aus. Ich komme gut voran und erreiche den Zoll frühzeitig. Allerdings schickt mich der Immigration Officer wieder zurück zum Zoll. Den finde ich aber nicht. Ich sehe wohl ein Gebäude auf dem steht „Custom Post Office”. Es kommt dann einer in Badehosen vorbei und sagt ich muss genau da rein. Darin stempelte der Badhosli dann auch mein Carnet!!! Vielleicht denken sie es müsste Postoffice heissen, da gestempelt wird. Mir war es egal wer mein Carnet abstempelte, Hauptsache ich habe einen Stempel darin. Der Immigration Officer stempelt dann meinen Pass und will 2$ Gebühr dafür, da heute Wochenende ist und die 2$ für die Überzeit ist, die er machen muss. Ich mache aber das Spiel nicht mit und schaue im tief in die Augen und sage bestimmt „no“. Er versuchte es dann noch 2 Mal bevor er mir den Pass zurückgibt. Auf der Seite von Kambodscha muss ich eine halbe Stunde warten bis jemand kommt und meine Sachen abstempelt. Nur das Visum bekomme ich schnell, vermutlich, weil ich dafür 20$ bezahlen muss. Als ich weiterfahre, weiss ich lange nicht auf welcher Strassenseite ich fahren muss. Ich fahre einfach mal rechts. Später merke ich, dass es die richtige Seite ist. Das war in Laos noch anders. Da kamen mir viele Geisterfahrer entgegen 🙂

Also because I have a lot of space and less weight (Francesca go directly to Cambodia). So I’m going to Vang Vieng and see if I meet Kitty and Kevin (which should be here). But I do not find them, so I fuel up the tank and go ahead. In the afternoon I have about 250 km on the clock and I’m wondering why there are not more. But I can drive 2 more hours and I’ll reach the daily goal. I stop in Thakhek and filling out my travel book, I realize that I forgot to count the kilometers before refuel the tank. So today I made ​​a whopping 622 km! To have a record, I have one kilometer too less. Ich fahre noch bis Thakhek und beim täglichen Ausfüllen des Reisebuchs stelle ich fest, dass ich vergessen habe die Kilometer vor dem Tanken dazu zu zählen. So habe ich heute satte 622 Kilometer gemacht! Einen Kilometer zu wenig um einen neuen Rekord zu haben. Da mein Knie die viele Km auch spürt und ich müde bin, schlafe ich schon um 9 Uhr ein.

But the wound is not completely closed and I have to let the knee again later post-processing. Francesca brings me the next day at 5:30 to the bus terminal and we say goodbye. We will meet us again later somewhere in Cambodia. I take the 6:00 o’clock bus to Bangkok and then the plane to Luang Prabang. Allerding ist die Wunde noch nicht zusammen gewachsen und ich muss das Knie später nochmals Nachbehandeln lassen. Francesca bringt mich am nächsten Tag um 5:30 zum Busterminal und wir verabschieden uns. Wir werden uns später wieder irgendwo Cambodia treffen. Ich fahre um 6:00 mit dem Bus nach Bangkok und dann mit dem Flieger nach Luang Prabang. Auf dem Flughafen habe ich eine kleine Panikattacke ausgelöst, als ich mit meinen Sackmesser (ca. 10 Stück) durch die Sicherheitskontrolle will. Ich habe ganz vergessen, das dies nicht erlaubt ist und die Sicherheitsleute haben mich ganz komisch angeschaut, als will ich ein Flugzeug entführen. Es stehen auch gleich einige Sicherheitspolizisten um mich herum, was mich auch ein wenig beunruhigt hat. Die einzige Lösung ist, dass ich zurück gehe und meinen Tankrucksack als Gepäck aufgebe. Wenn das nur gut geht? In Luang Prabang stehe ich ungeduldig in der Warteschlage für die Immigration und sehe auf das Gepäckband. Leider kann ich mein Tankrucksack nicht sehen und denke, warum nur? Auf einmal sehe ich, wie auch auf Band 2 Koffer sind und auf einmal mein Tankrucksack vorbeikommt. Uff! Als ich im Spital ankomme, begrüsst mich die Krankenschwester und zeigt mir, dass alles Gepäck noch da ist. Sie habe alles im Guesthouse aufbewahrt und heute hierhergebracht. Toll! Dann gehen wir zum Töff und ich stelle fest, dass alles im gleichen Zustand ist wie vor einem Monat. Auch toll. Ich bereite den Töff vor und belade ihn mit dem Gepäck. Schon bald ist alles bereit und die Reise kann endlich wieder fortgesetzt werden. Wie wird es wohl mit dem Knie gehen? Wie fühle ich mich wieder auf dem Töff zu sein?

Bangkok, Thailand 29.4.2014 Pattaya, Thailand Km: 57557 Waiting / Warten Our great fortune is that René has invited us to stay at his house until I am fit to travel again. Let’s see how I will solve the problems. ********************** Unser grosses Glück ist, dass uns René eingeladen hat, in seinem Haus zu wohnen, bis ich wieder fit bin um weiter zu reisen. Wir dürfen uns wie Zuhause fühlen und kein Guesthouse kann uns das bieten, was René und gibt. Wir geniessen über eine Woche lang die Ruhe und die Annehmlichkeiten des Hauses. Mit René hat sich unterdessen auch eine gute Freundschaft entwickelt die wir nicht missen möchten. Leider hat Francesca auf dem Weg nach Pattaya ihr Telefon verloren. Natürlich ist ihre Stimmung schlecht und wir haben das Gefühl alles Negative wie ein Magnet anzuziehen. Als Notlösung reaktivieren wir mein altes Telefon und lassen es reparieren um viel Geld zu sparen (neuen Stecker einlöten für 10$). Weiter nutze ich die Zeit mit einem Zahnarztbesuch und überlegen, wie ich mein Töff wieder aus Laos bringe. Er dürfte nur 30 Tage in Laos sein, doch unterdessen ist er schon 35 Tage da. Zudem weiss ich nicht in welchem Zustand der Töff und das Gepäck ist. Mal sehen wie ich das Problem lösen werde.

Daneben ist natürlich auch Francesca da, die mir alle anderen Individuellen Wünsche erfüllt. Da die Wunden noch nicht verheilt sind gehen wir mit dem Bus nach Pattaya und werden 1 bis 2 Wochen Erholung suchen. Wie es danach weiter geh wissen wir noch nicht. Mal sehen.

Bangkok, Thailand 14.4.2014 Bangkok, Thailand Km: 57557 Emergency / Notfall Unfortunately, the Rega has lost a lot of time with administrative stuff and all where stressed about this. Thereafter, the Hospital organized a ambulance plane, because it was by the delay of the Rega too late for a scheduled flight and so we arrived at night in Bangkok. After various test I go to the operating and rest. With further operations and much antibiotics the doctors get the infection under control and I’m feeling better every day. I’ll stay a few more days in the hospital and then looking for a place to let the wound heal better.
Next I need to look at how I come to my motorbike again, because of the still standing in Laos. ********************** Leider hat die Rega mit Administrativen viel Zeit verloren und alle waren dadurch etwas gestresst. Danach organisierte das Hospital einen Ambulanzflieger, da es durch die Verzögerung der Rega zu spät war für einen Linienflug und so landen wir in der Nacht in Bangkok. Nach diversen Untersuchungen geht’s zum operieren und ausruhen. Mit weiteren Operationen und viel Antibiotika kriegen die Ärzte die Infektion in den Griff und es geht mir jeden Tag besser. Ich werde noch einige Tage im Spital bleiben und dann einen Ort suchen um die Wunde noch besser heilen zu lassen. Weiter muss ich schauen, wie ich wieder zu meinem Töff komme, denn der steht immer noch in Laos.

Nach 2 Tagen hat sich alles entzündet und ich habe eine Infektion am Bein bekommen. So entschliessen wir uns, am nächsten Tag in die nächste grössere Stadt zu fahren. Es gibt da ein grösseres Spital und einen Flughafen. So haben wir mehr Optionen falls sich die Infektion noch mehr verschlimmert. Nachdem wir angekommen waren, suchte ich das Spital auf. Der Arzt meinte, dass das Beste ist, wenn ich gleich nach Bangkok gehe, er werde gleich ein Flieger organisieren…

Das Blöde ist, der Töff steht unterhalb einer Morasts Strasse und wenn der Regen kommt, bringe ich den Töff nie mehr die Strasse hinauf. Also um 4 Uhr in der früh den Motor starten und den Töff auf die Hauptstrasse bringen. Danach hören wir wie 1 cm grosse Hagelkörner auf das Zelt aufschlagen. Nichts schlimmes aber nicht das was man wünscht. Nach dem Reparieren des Anlasser Relais ist heute die Benzinpumpe daran. Nicht das erste Mal, dass ich dieses Problem habe und so kann ich das Problem schnell beheben. Als wir wieder den Ou River erreichen, können wir den Töff auf ein Boot verladen und dann gemütlich herunterfahren. Die Fahrt im kleinen aber gemütlichen Boot ist scharmant und wir geniessen die Landschaft. Als wir am Zielort ankommen, sehe ich gleich dass keine geeignete Entladestelle da ist. Wie bringen wir den Töff nun wieder auf die Strasse? Natürlich sagt der Bootsführer, dass wir nochmals kräftig bezahlen müssen. Ich unterstütze aber solche Mafioso Typen nicht und erkundige mich. Es gibt weiter unten eine Entladestelle wo es einfacher möglich sein soll. Der Bootsführer will immer noch Geld für seine Kumpane die beim Entladen helfen müssen. Es geht mir so auf den Sack, dass ich ihm zeige, dass ich den Töff auch alleine Entladen kann. Den Töff ablegen, 90 Grad drehen und wieder aufstellen, danach kann ich über ein Brett vom Boot fahren und über einen Steg aufs trockene Land. Leider habe ich beim hochfahren zur Strasse das Gleichgewicht verloren und der Töff ist mir auf das Bein gefallen. Ich habe eine dicke Schramme am Knie eingefangen. Zum Glück ist hier gleich ein Hospital, die die Wunde gereinigt und mit einigen Stichen genäht haben. Bezahlen musste ich dem Doktor für eine Stunde Arbeit inkl. Material 23 CHF. Die nächsten Tage heisst es im Guesthouse ausruhen und die Wunde Pflegen

The next day the bike stops after a few miles. Everything was completely dead I shake on all parts of the bike and could then continue again. But not for a long time. Then I could no longer start the motorbike and have to bring out the tools. I soon see that the starter relay and their cables are burned through. The few miles to Hat Sa ran smoothly and from there we wanted to charter a boat. “>Unfortunately it is also not possible because a dam blocking the way. ********************** Uns treibt es noch weiter in den Norden und weit weg von Touristen und grösseren Städten. In Phongsali versuchen wir ein Zimmer zu bekommen. Wir kriegen aber keines und es erscheint mir ein wenig wie in Indien, wo sie aus welchen Gründen auch immer uns kein Zimmer geben wollten. So schlafen wir im Zelt und es geht nicht lange, bis ein Militärmann vorbeikommt und sagt wir können hier nicht bleiben. Wir haben ihn zuerst einfach ignoriert und dann Kekse angeboten. Nach ein bisschen bla bla gab er sich dann zufrieden und wir durften bleiben. Am nächsten Tag stoppte das Bike nach wenigen Kilometern. Alles war komplett tot. Ich rüttelte überall etwas herum und konnte dann wieder weiterfahren. Aber nicht lange. Dann konnte ich den Töff nicht mehr starten und musste das Werkzeug hervorholen. Bald sah ich, dass das Anlasser Relais und deren Kabel durchgeschmort sind. Es ist wohl einer der unglücklichsten Orte für dies. Weitab von eine grösseren Stadt und sicher keine Ersatzteile zu kriegen. Zum Glück konnte ich es provisorisch reparieren. Die wenigen Kilometer nach Hat Sa verliefen problemlos und von da an wollten wir ein Boot chartern. Leider ging es auch hier nicht, da ein Staudamm den Weg versperrt.

But first we drive around in the mountains of Thailand. Only a small piece, but that drag on and are tiring. But then we reach the border of Laos and the border crossing went smoothly and „the next level is unlocked”. The next hurdle is the crossing the Meng Kong river. With a small ferry but this also went without problems. Drive another 20 kilometers, we reach the day’s destination.
In Pak Beng we try to load the motorbike on a boat, but ultimately fail because the driver does not want or ask for too much money. The first disappointment is big. But later, we see that the boat is loaded with ordinary tourists and it would not really romantic. Thus, the motivation rises again, we enjoy a romantic candlelight dinner on a beach of Meng Kong river. We cooked green curry with pork, vegetable and rice. In addition there is a fresh salad. I put several candles on the rock next to, to have a wonderful view. With soft music and a coffee, we sit a long time there and enjoy the moment. ********************** Tagesziel: Neues Land. Zuerst fahren wir aber noch in den Bergen von Thailand herum. Nur ein kleines Stück, das sich aber in die Länge zieht und ermüdend ist. Dann erreichen wir aber die Grenze zu Laos und der Grenzübertritt verlief reibungslos und „das nächste Level ist freigeschalten”. Die nächste Hürde ist die Überqueruung des Meng Kong. Mit einer kleinen Fähre ging aber auch dies Problemlos. Noch 20 Kilometer fahren und wir haben das Tagesziel erreicht. In Pak Beng versuchen wir den Töff auf ein Boot zu verladen, was aber schlussendlich scheitert, da die Bootsführer nicht wollen oder zu viel Geld verlangen. Die Enttäuschung ist zuerst gross. Doch später sehen wir, dass das Boot vollgestopft ist mit Pauschaltouristen und es nicht wirklich Romantisch gewesen wäre. Damit die Motivation wieder steigt, gönnen wir uns ein romantisches Candle-Light-Dinner am Ufer des Meng Kong. Wir Kochten grünen Curry mit Schweinefleisch, Gemüse und Reis. Dazu gibt einen frischen Salat. Ich stelle diverse Kerzen in den Felsen neben an auf, um einen herrlichen Ausblick zu haben. Mit sanfter Musik und einem Kaffee sitzen wir längere Zeit da und geniessen den Moment.

Pua, Thailand 29.3.2014 Pua, Thailand Km: 56558 Had much luck / Viel Glück gehabt To have an attractive ride, we are looking for a route along the Meng Kong River and in the mountains. First, we try to find a campground on Meng Kong River, but we are not successful. Then in the mountains a great place with fantastic views. The light wind from the west is in the night more and more and suddenly I hear a loud crack and 3 seconds later, a massive “shshshsh “. As I walk out of the tent in the morning, I see what had happened in the night. A large branch broke off and 1 meter pitched off next to the tent. Not to think what would have happened if the branch would have fallen directly onto the tent.
The trip to Pua was then quiet and we did what we always do when we arrive in a village or town. First, look for a Guest House. Usually we do not take the first, we see if there is one with a lower rate. Then shopping, preferred on the local market. This time we buy bean sprouts, a kind of Brussels sprouts, onions, pork, noodles and mangoes. Later we cook, eat and drink a coffee. ********************** Um die Fahrt attraktiv zu gestallten, suchen wir eine Strecke entlang des Meng Kong und in den Bergen. Zuerst versuchen wir am Meng Kong ein Zeltplatz zu finden, sind aber nicht erfolgreich. Dann in den Bergen ein toller Platz mit viel Aussicht. Der leichte Wind vom Abend wird in der Nacht immer stärker und auf einmal höre ich ein lautes Knacken und 3 Sekunden später ein massives „schschschsch”. Als ich am Morgen aus dem Zelt gehe, sehe ich was in Nacht passiert war. Ein grosser Ast ist abgebrochen und 1 Meter neben dem Zelt aufgeschlagen. Nicht zu denken, was passiert wäre, wenn der Ast direkt aufs Zelt gefallen wäre. Die Fahrt nach Pua war dann ruhig und wir machten was wir immer machen, wenn wir in einem Dorf oder Stadt ankommen. Zuerst ein Guesthouse suchen. Dabei nehmen wir nicht das erst Beste, sondern schauen ob es noch ein günstigeres gibt. Dann einkaufen und zwar am liebsten auf dem lokalen Markt. Diesmal kaufen wir Sojasprossen, eine Art Rosenkohl, Zwiebeln, Schweinefleisch, Nudeln und Mangos. Später kochen wir das Eingekaufte und trinken zuletzt noch ein Kaffee.

Nothing special / Nichts spezielles Chiang Rai, Thailand

Chiang Rai, Thailand 27.3.2014 Chiang Rai, Thailand Km: 56126 Nothing special / Nichts spezielles This time I cannot report much special. It’s still hot (~ 36 degrees with high humidity), the roads charmingly but not spectacular and the towns are normal. Only the local population is more and more from the Chinese.
However, I have seen an old steam locomotive in Chiang Mai at the station. It is from the “Räthischen Bahn” and I wonder what this doing here? In Chiang Rai, then a white temple, which does not fit entirely into the area, but it is interesting to look at.
In the Guest House we meet other travelers, the admiration seek dialogue with us. And I must say that this is great, the people leads to exciting conversations and we collect a lot of information about roads, border crossings and much more.
Let’s see if the next few days will be more exciting…. ********************** Diesmal kann ich nicht viel Spezielles berichten. Es ist immer noch Heiss (~36 Grad mit hoher Luftfeuchtigkeit), die Strassen scharmant aber nicht spektakulär und die Städte normal. Einzig die lokale Bevölkerung besteht mehr und mehr aus Chinesen. Allerdings habe ich in Chiang Mai auf dem Bahnhof eine alte Dampflokomotive gesehen. Es ist eine von der Räthischen Bahn und ich frage mich, was diese hier macht? In Chiang Rai dann einen weissen Tempel, der ganz und gar nicht in die Gegend passt, aber interessant ist um an zu schauen. Im Guesthouse treffen wir andere reisende, die bewundernd das Gespräch mit uns suchen. Dabei muss ich sagen, dass ich die Leute toll finde, sich spannende Gespräche ergeben und wir viele Informationen über Stassen, Grenzübertritte und vieles mehr erfahren. Mal sehen ob die nächsten Tage spannender werden….

No sleep / Kein Schlaf Mae Sariang, Thailand

Mae Sariang, Thailand 24.3.2014 Mae Sariang, Thailand Km: 55605 No sleep / Kein Schlaf Our route takes us to the west, where we spend a night in Mae Sot. The guest house is right next to a restaurant and this overnight stay is the cheapest so far in Thailand. Unfortunately this was the only positive. The restaurant turned out to be a bar where the whole night was a party. Up to 7 in the morning some it held out and made permanently noise. To sleep is not to be thought and we both to see it positive and spend the time with Internet work, mail, and, and, and… Luckily the route to the next village is something positive. Many curves along the border of Myanmar and along the scenic of a river.
On the way we do in front of a large cave a coffee break and enjoy ourselves with the locals. Cute and smiling people who look at us interested and also seek to talk. Nowhere near as intrusive as the Indians, so that it is pleasant.
In Mae Sariang we have a little disagreement. Francesca don’t wanted to decide in any case, what we should do. Search camping or a Guest House? Probably the hunger or lack of sleep was noticeable. I decide to stay here and look for a nice guest house. We find a quiet one and eat fine fried noodles, so that the world is again in order. ********************** Unser Weg führt uns nach Westen, wo wir in Mae Sot eine Nacht verbringen. Das Guesthouse ist gleich neben einem Restaurant und die Übernachtung ist die günstigste bisher in Thailand. Leider war dies das einzige positive. Das Restaurant stellte sich als Bar heraus, wo die ganze Nacht eine Party war. Bis morgens um 7 Uhr hielten es einige aus und machten Lärm. An schlaf ist nicht zu denken und wir beide versuchen es positiv zu sehen und mit Internetarbeiten die Zeit zu nutzen. Zum glück ist die Strecke zum nächsten Dorf was Positives. Viele Kurven entlang der Grenze von Myanmar und entlang einem scharmanten Fluss. Unterwegs machen wir vor einer grossen Höhle einen Kaffeehalt und vergnügen uns mit den Einheimischen. Nette und lächelnde Menschen, die uns interessiert anschauen und auch das Gespräch suchen. Bei weitem nicht so aufdringlich wie die Inder, so dass es gerade angenehm ist. In Mae Sariang haben wir eine kleine Meinungsverschiedenheit. Francesca wollte auf keinen Fall entscheiden, was wir machen sollen. Campen oder ein Guesthouse suchen. Wahrscheinlich machte sich der Hunger oder fehlende Schlaf bemerkbar. Ich entscheide hier zu bleiben und ein nettes Guesthouse zu suchen. Wir finden ein ruhiges und essen feine gebratene Nudeln, so dass die Welt dann wieder in Ordnung ist.

Free camping / Wildes campen Khao Kho, Thailand

Khao Kho, Thailand 22.3.2014 Khao Kho, Thailand Km: 55005 Free camping / Wildes campen We are heading to the north. We want to stay in a national park and arrive this in the evenings. Unfortunately, the cashier may want 400 baht per person (about 12 CHF) to cross the park. Definitely too much, as not even a guest house is included in the price. Therefore, we turn and search for a place somewhere on a meadow. So we can save money and quiet it is too. Discussion about budget is always an issue, since we both have limited money. The more money we can save, as more we travel together!
We spend the next night at a campsite. It is not as well equipped, but for free. As place in the mountains (hills) and the journey to there and temperature are also pleasant. ********************** Es geht nach Norden. Wir wollen in einem Nationalpark übernachten und erreichen diesen in den Abendstunden. Leider will der Kassierer 400 Bath pro Person (ca. 12 CHF) damit wir den Park durchqueren dürfen. Definitiv zu viel, da nicht mal ein Guesthouse im Preis inbegriffen ist. Darum kehren wir um und suchen uns einen Platz irgendwo auf einer Wiese. So können wir am meisten Geld sparen und ruhig ist es auch. Da Budget ist auch immer wieder ein Thema, da wir beide ein limitiertes Budget haben. Je mehr Geld wir sparen können wir gemeinsam reisen! Die nächste Nacht verbringen wir auf einem Campingplatz. Allerdings nicht so gut ausgestattet, dafür gratis. Da der Platz in den Bergen (Hügeln) ist, ist auch die Fahrt dahin und Temperatur angenehm.

Ban Phe, Thailand 20.3.2014 Ban Phe, Thailand Km: 54316 No Ko Samet / Kein Ko Samet The island of Ko Samet should also be beautiful and we are heading to it. In Ban Phe arrived, we are looking for a ferry. Quickly we find many boats, but none wants to take us, as the motorbike is too large. Only one offers us the crossing. However, far too expensive and so we’ll spend one night in Ban Phe. No ferry, not dollars!
In the evening we visit the local market. Many stands’, where delicious food is prepared right next to the stands. We buy local food and eat in the hostel. We like it so much that we spend a few days here and during the day we go to a beach, making coffee and rest. On the last day I have to fix the support for the luggage. This is broken because of the high weight.
In the end, everything is ok again and we want to continue. But where? ********************** Die Insel Ko Samet soll auch noch schön sein und so fahren wir dahin. In Ban Phe angekommen, suchen wir eine Fähre. Schnell finden wir viele Boote, aber keine will uns mitnehmen, da der Töff zu gross ist. Nur einer bietet uns die Überfahrt an. Allerdings viel zu teuer und so bleiben wir mal eine Nacht hier. Keine Fähre, keine Dollars! Am Abend besuchen wir den lokalen Markt. Sehr viele Stände, wo das leckere Essen gleich auf dem Markt zubereitet wird. Wir kaufen lokale Spezialitäten und essen im Hostel. Uns gefällt es so gut, dass wir hier einige Tage verbringen und tagsüber an irgendeinen Strand fahren, Kaffee kochen und ausruhen. Am letzten Tag muss ich noch die Halterung für das Gepäck reparieren. Die ist wegen dem hohen Gewicht gebrochen. Am Schluss ist alles wieder ok und wir wollen weiterfahren. Aber wohin?

Strange mood / Seltsame Stimmung Pattaya, Thailand

Pattaya, Thailand 16.3.2014 Pattaya, Thailand Km: 54146 Strange mood / Seltsame Stimmung We do not agree to which beach we want to go to relax a few days. I then create a cost-benefit analysis with the most important parameters. The next day we will go to the winner, Bang Saen. The beach is not so great and Francesca is not in a good mood. We then continue to look at whether there is a beautiful beach. At the end, we end up in Pattaya, the place that has taken in the cost-benefit analysis the last place. Francesca is now really angry and emotional debate begins.
However, we still remain two days here and look at the many dissimilar pairs (young Thai woman and old thick German). Here we notice that no one laughs and there is no happy atmosphere in the Go Go bars.
We know that we do not want to stay longer and are looking for a new beach. But where? ********************** Wir sind uns nicht einig, wo wir am einen Strand gehen sollen um einige Tage aus zu spannen. Ich erstelle dann eine Nutzwertanalye mit den wichtigsten Parametern. Am nächsten Tag fahren wir dann zu dem Sieger, Saen Bang. Der Strand ist aber nicht so toll und Francesca ist nicht in guter Stimmung. Wir fahren dann weiter um zu schauen ob es einen schöneren Strand gibt. Am Schluss landen wir in Pattaya, der Ort, der in der Nutzwertanalyse den letzten Platz eingenommen hat. Francesca ist nun richtig sauer und eine emotionale Diskussion beginnt. Wir bleiben aber trotzdem 2 Tage hier und schauen uns die vielen ungleichen Paare an (junge Thai Frau und alter dicker Deutscher. Dabei fällt uns auf, dass praktisch niemand lacht und selten eine fröhliche Stimmung in den Go Go Bars herrscht. Wir wissen, dass wir nicht länger bleiben wollen und einen neuen Strand suchen. Aber wo?

New Tire / Neue Reifen Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok, Thailand 14.3.2014 Bangkok, Thailand Km: 53991 New Tire / Neue Reifen At the very beginning go in Bangkok I visit a motorbike shop. But he has no tires and sent me to another shop. The other has also no tire and sent me to a third …
… after 2 ½ days and countless shops I have finally new tires, but I will change it later and use the old one until this is completely down and no profile is visible. No, this is not a problem so far, Switzerland is the only country where the police look at the tread depth.
Next we still need to buy camping equipment and a motorbike dress tried on. Also the cell phone from Francesca (broken screen) we had to fix. All together took about three days without that we have looked at a place of interest. But this is normal that we first do the important things. In Bangkok, everything takes a little longer, because it is a city in XXL, a real monster. The traffic is relaxed and not as bad as in other big cities, but we needed about 1 1/2 hours to a particular store 35 Kilometers away. Yes, 35 kilometers, we drove from the center to the East and were still in the city. With more than 8 million inhabitants, Bangkok has about the same amount as Switzerland, but it all live in one city. Since Zurich seems with 400,000 inhabitants rather than a provincial village. Next Task: beach holidays. But where? ********************** Gleich beim hereinfahren in Bangkok besuche ich einen Töff Laden. Der hat aber keine Reifen und schickt mich zu einem anderen. Der andere hat auch keine und schickt mich zu einem dritten… …nach 2 ½ Tagen und unzähligen Shops besuchen habe ich schlussendlich neue Reifen, werde sie aber erst später montieren und die alten komplett herunterfahren, bis kein Profil mehr sichtbar ist. Nein, dies ist so weit kein Problem, die Schweiz ist das einzige Land wo man auf die Profiltiefe schaut. Weiter haben wir noch Camping Equipment kaufen müssen und einen Töff Dress anprobiert. Auch das Handy von Francesca (zerbrochenes Display) mussten wir flicken lassen. Alles zusammen brauchte über drei Tage ohne dass wir eine Sehenswürdigkeit angeschaut haben. Dies ist aber normal, dass wir zuerst das wichtige erledigen. In Bangkok braucht auch alles etwas länger, da es eine Stadt in XXL ist, ein richtiges Monster. Der Verkehr ist relaxed und nicht so schlimm wie in anderen Grossstädten, doch wir brauchten über 1 1/2 Stunden um einen bestimmten Laden in 35 Kilometer zu erreichen. Ja, 35 Kilometer und wir sind vom Zentrum nach Osten gefahren und waren immer noch in der Stadt. Mit über 8 Millionen Einwohnern hat Bangkok etwa gleich viel wie die Schweiz, es leben aber alle in einer Stadt. Da scheint Zürich mit 400’000 Einwohner doch eher als ein Provinzdorf. Nächste Aufgabe: Badeferien. Aber wo?

Invitation / Einladung Ang Thong, Thailand

Ang Thong, Thailand 10.3.2014 Ang Tong, Thailand Km: 53690 Invitation / Einladung I’ve very fortunate that someone of Beringen can bring necessary spare parts and other things to Thailand to me. So we drive to Ang Tong and visit René and his wife Nok. After the handover of the material René invites us to stay here and his wife cooked us a delicious dinner. The next day we visit the local market and the “fish temple”. René and Nok spoil us so much that it’s hard after 2 days for us to continue. A great and warm time we were allowed to have in Ang Tong.
Next Task: buy new tires, and a new hose or better two. But where? ********************** Ich habe grosses Glück, dass mir jemand von Beringen nötige Ersatzteile und sonstiges nach Thailand bringen kann. So fahren wir nach Ang Tong und besuchen Renè und seine Frau Nok. Nach der Übergabe des Materials lädt uns René ein, hier zu übernachten und seine Frau kocht uns ein leckeres Nachtessen. Am nächsten Tag besuchen wir den lokalen Markt und den „Fischtempel”. René und Nok verwöhnen uns so sehr, dass es uns nach 2 Tagen schwer fällt weiter zu fahren. Ein tolle und herzliche Zeit die wir in Ang Tong haben durften. Nächste Aufgabe: neue Reifen kaufen, und einen neuen Schlauch oder besser gleich zwei. Aber wo?

Shit / Schei… Sukhothai, Thailand

Sukhothai, Thailand 5.3.2014 Sukhothai, Thailand Km: 52158 **** / Schei… Crossing the border to Thailand is chaotic. Too many people and only a small immigration office and custom office. But we beat bravely and we are happy to have arrived in Thailand. A gorgeous curvy ride makes me even happier, until …
… until I have a flat tire again. Quick take the tires down and I note that the entire tube is complete collapsed. This I had never been before and the problem is that I have no more spare tube, and far and wide no city is. A moped driver brings me to the next village. The mechanic does not have a replacement hose and I should go to the next town. Since there is a police checkpoint, I ask the police. He then travels back me and stops a pickup truck on the road. He explained to the driver in Thai, that he should drive me to the next town. But first must motorbike with all the material on the pickup. Since there is no ramp or crane is available, everybody must help to lift up manually the bike on to the pickup. Even the policeman helps, which shows me how helpful people are here. In Tak, we can then find a new tube and continue the travel. We decide to stay a few days in Sukhothai, because I need some rest. There is a “historical park” with old temple and we go for sure to view it. At the last drive I have heard that there is something wrong with the bike and I have to remove the tank. I note that a hose is broken. I am looking for a mechanic, so I can modify the adapter because it is not there first time that the hose is broken. In the end, everything works perfectly again. ********************** Der Grenzübertritt nach Thailand ist chaotisch. Zu viele Leute und nur ein kleines Immigration Office und Custom. Wir schlagen uns aber tapfer durch und freuen und in Thailand angekommen zu sein. Eine herrliche fahrt auf einer Kurvenreichen strecke macht mich noch glücklicher, bis… … bis ich schon wieder einen Platten habe. Schnell den Reifen runter nehmen und ich stelle fest, dass der ganze Schlauch aufgeschlitzt ist. Dies hatte ich noch nie und das Problem ist, dass ich keinen Ersatzschlauch mehr habe, und weit und breit keine Stadt ist. Ein Mopedfahrer bringt mich ins nächste Dorf. Der Mechaniker hat keinen Ersatzschlauch und ich soll in die nächste Stadt. Da hier ein Polizeicheckpoint ist, frage ich den Polizisten. Er fährt mich dann zurück und stoppt ein Pickup auf der Strasse. Er erklärt dem Fahrer auf Thai, dass er mich in die nächste Stadt fahren soll. Zuerst muss aber der Töff mit allem Material auf den Pickup. Da keine Rampe oder einen Kran vorhanden ist, müssen alle anpacken und von Hand auf den Pickup bringen. Sogar der Polizist hilft, was mir zeigt, wie hilfsbereit die Leute hier sind. In Tak können wir dann einen neuen schlauch finden und schlussendlich weiterfahren. Wir beschliessen einige Tage in Sukhothai zu bleiben, da ich etwas Erholung brauche. Es gibt hier noch einen „historical park” mit alten Tempel, den wir natürlich auch noch ansehen gehen. Bei der letzten Fahrt habe ich gehört, dass etwas mit dem Bike nicht stimmt und so muss ich den Tank entfernen. Ich stelle fest, dass ein Schlauch abgerissen ist. Ich suche noch ein Mech, damit ich den Adapter modifizieren kann, da es nicht da erste Mal ist, dass der Schlauch abgerissen ist. Am Schluss läuft alles wieder perfekt.
