Campshower / Campingdusche Maloneys Beach, Australia

Maloneys Beach, Australia 19.3.2015 Maloneys Beach, Australia Km: 904 Campshower / Campingdusche We reach the coast again and stay at a very comfortable camp spot. The next day I will rebuild the campervan a bit. I start with the kitchen and remove the seats in the back. After having a discussion how we like to build the kitchen, I’m making good progress and remains in sufficient time to test the new Camp Shower. The shower has a small pump which I can connect to the 12 volt battery. Then I cook water on the stove and mix it with cold water in a bucket. What a wonderful feeling after a few days on the road to enjoy once again a shower. In the evening I cook ‘Rösti’ (a traditional Swiss meal made with potatoes) and sausage with a brow onion sauce and we enjoy the evening in the middle of nature. ********************** Wir erreichen wieder die Küste und übernachten auf einem sehr gemütlichen Campspot. Am nächsten Tag will ich den Campervan etwas umbauen. Ich starte mit der Küche und entferne die Sitzbank. Nachdem wir einen halben Tag lang diskutiert haben, wie wir es machen wollen, komme ich gut voran und so bleibt genügend Zeit um die neue Campshower aus zu probieren. Die Dusche hat eine kleine Pumpe die ich an die 12 Volt Batterie anschliessen kann. Dann koche ich Wasser auf dem Herd und mixe es mit kaltem Wasser in einem Eimer. Was für ein herrliches Gefühl nach einigen Tagen unterwegs zu sein wieder einmal eine Dusche zu geniessen. Am Abend koche ich Bratwurst Rösti und wir geniessen den Abend mitten in der Natur.

Odyssey / Irrfahrten Canberra, Australia

Canberra, Australia 17.3.2015 Canberra, Australia Km: 762 Odyssey / Irrfahrten On our way we arrive in Canberra. We drive around a bit in the city and stop at the Visitor Center. Not to inform us, but to take a free shower.
Then we go into a recycling center in the south to buy things for the camper van. Then again, thru the whole city because the hardware store and camping shop is in the north and we have previously not planned properly. Then we go back to the south of the city in another recycling center to continue shopping. Then we find out that we have bought the wrong lamp in the camping shop and want to exchange them. So we drive back through the whole city to the north. And of course, again to the south, because we want to continue travel from there. Because Canberra is very large, we have made over 200 km in the city and had a beautiful sightseeing. But we lost also a lot of time and I do not know when I can mount everything we purchased. ********************** Auf unserem Weg kommen wir in Canberra an. Wir fahren etwas in der Stadt herum und stoppen beim Visitor Center. Nicht um uns zu informieren, sondern um eine gratis Dusche zu nehmen. Dann gehen wir in ein Recycling Center im Süden um Sachen für den Camper Van zu kaufen. Dann wieder durch die ganze Stadt, da der Baumarkt und Campingshop im Norden ist und wir zuvor nicht richtig geplant haben. Danach fahren wir wieder in den Süden der Stadt um in einem anderen Recycling Center weiter ein zu kaufen. Dann stellen wir fest, dass wir im Campingshop die Falsche Lampe gekauft haben und diese umtauschen wollen. Also wieder durch die ganze Stadt in den Norden und natürlich wieder in den Süden, da wir von dort weiterreisen wollen. Da Canberra sehr weitläufig ist haben wir über 200 Kilometer in der Stadt gemacht und haben somit einen schöne Stadtbesichtigung gehabt. Wie haben aber auch viel Zeit verloren und ich weiss nicht wann ich alles Eingekaufte einbauen kann.

First drive / Erste Fahrt Bathurst, Australia

Bathurst, Australia 15.3.2015 Bathurst, Australia Km: 236 First drive / Erste Fahrt We can finally pick up the camper van and drive off the next day. We make the last shopping’s and got the evening in a violent thunderstorm. We stay at the Blue Mountain on a camping with some trees. From this it drops all night on the roof, so I cannot sleep properly. The next day it was still raining. Just the right weather to drive on. The Camper Van brings some benefits, but is not the same as on the bike. Whether we will appreciate with time, let’s see…. ********************** Wir können endlich den Camper Van abholen und fahren am nächsten Tag los. Wir machen noch die letzten Einkäufe und geraten am Abend in ein heftiges Gewitter. Wir übernachten in den Blue Mountain auf einem Camping mit einigen Bäumen. Von diesen tropf es die ganze Nacht auf das Dach, so dass ich nicht richtig schlafen kann. Am nächsten Tag regnet es immer noch. Genau das richtige Wetter um weiter zu fahren. Der Camper Van bringt einige Vorteile, ist aber nicht mehr dasselbe wie auf dem Motorrad. Ob wir es mit der Zeit schätzen werden, mal sehen….

Sydney, Australia 6.3.2015 Sydney, Australia Km: 0 Investigations / Untersuchungen On the program are still some health checks for Francesca. For this we go into the pathology and then to the hospital. Although we meat 2 great people today, we are all stressed out again as we left the hospital. The visit to the gynecologist was a waste of time and he made us fear. We expect that our fears are taken, are we know more. Instead, we must again make some tests that are not necessary in my view. It is probably not only the patient’s fault, why health care costs are rising. We have already once said that we want to change the hospital, but suddenly wants Francesca rather stay here. How to do this again, I do not know at the moment. ********************** Auf dem Programm stehen noch einige Gesundheit Untersuchungen für Francesca. Dazu gehen wir in die Pathologie und danach ins Spital. Obwohl wir heute 2 tolle Leute getroffen haben, sind wir über alles wieder gestresst als wir das Spital verlassen. Der Besuch beim Gynäkologen war reine Zeitverschwendung und Angst machen des Doktors. Wir erwarten, dass uns Ängste genommen werden, wir beruhigt sind, mehr wissen. Stattdessen müssen wir wieder einige Untersuchungen machen, die aus meiner Sicht nicht nötig sind. Es sind wohl nicht nur die Patienten schuld, warum die Gesundheitskosten ständig steigen. Wir haben schon früher mal gesagt, dass wir das Spital wechseln wollen, doch auf einmal will Francesca eher hier bleiben. Wie es damit weiter geht, weiss ich im Moment nicht.

New vehicle / Neues Fahrzeug Sydney, Australia

Sydney, Australia 6.3.2015 Sydney, Australia Km: 0 New vehicle / Neues Fahrzeug Because we like to travel we have decide to buy a camper van. This also gives us the opportunity for a cheap accommodation. When we visit the first seller, we are a little shocked. The ad is “in fantastic condition”. When do a closer inspection, I realize, “it’s in a catastrophic condition!”. This means “no” no and the next day the next viewing. Better, but not in good condition (oil leak on the engine, a hole in the exhaust, small oil leak at the gearbox). A day later, we see the third. The interior is not that great, but the condition of the vehicle is much better. So negotiate and strike. The vehicle will get in a week, since the current owners want to stay until his departure. So back and wait …. ********************** Da wir weiterhin gerne Reisen haben wir uns entschieden, einen Camper Van zu kaufen. Dies gibt uns auch die Möglichkeit, günstig zu übernachten. Als wir den ersten besichtigen, sind wir etwas geschockt. Im Inserat steht „in fantastischem Zustand“. Beim etwas genauerem Hinsehen stelle ich fest: „in einem katastrophalen Zustand! Also nein, und am nächsten Tag den nächsten Anschauen. Besser aber auch nicht in Gutem Zustand (Ölverlust am Motor, Loch im Auspuff, kleiner Ölverlust am Getriebe). Einen Tag später gehen wir den dritten anschauen. Die Innenausstattung ist nicht so toll, aber der Zustand des Fahrzeuges ist wesentlich besser. Also verhandeln und zuschlagen. Das Fahrzeug bekommen wir allerding erst in einer Woche, da die jetzigen Besitzer bis zum Abflug noch darin übernachten wollen. Also zurück und warten….

New way / Neuer Weg Sydney, Australia

Sydney, Australia 3.3.2015 Sydney, Australia Km: 0* New way / Neuer Weg Meanwhile, we have arrived in the new country and the new country is an old: Australia.
With this step, I leave definitely my original trip because I never wanted to go back but always forward. For insurance reasons we had to go back, but we don’t like much to go again to Australia, because we were already here and the culture it is not very different from our one. So, nothing new and possibly nothing exciting for me. Let’s see.
The bike I left behind in New Zealand, as we can’t drive comfortable on the motorcycle because of the big belly of Francesca, and the shipping would cost only a lot of money. So we have to find a new way how we want to travel in the near future.
* Since I am no longer on a motorbike, I start new counting kilometers. So far I’ve driven 93,440 km with the motorbike halfway around the world. In Sydney, we are very lucky that we find a couch. Even better, our host Rob dispensed with the double bed and sleeping on a camping mattress on the floor! So we have a great place to stay in a prime location and it is exciting to listen when Rob talks about his plans (drive in the Americas by bicycle). What happens next, you can read in the next blog post…. ********************** Unterdessen sind wir im neuen Land angekommen und das neue Land ist ein altes: Australien Mit diesem Schritt verlasse ich definitiv meine ursprüngliche Reise, denn ich wollte nie zurückgehen sondern nur immer vorwärts. Aus versicherungstechnischen Gründen sind wir wieder in einem Land wo wir eigentlich nicht wieder hinwollten, da wir bereits in Australien waren und es sich kulturell nicht sehr von unserer Kultur unterscheidet. Somit nichts Neues und ggf. nichts Spannendes für mich. Mal sehen. Das Motorrad habe ich in Neu Seeland zurückgelassen, da wir wegen des dicken Bauch von Francesca nicht mehr bequem Motorrad fahren können, und das Verschiffen nur viel Geld kosten würde. So müssen wir einen neuen Weg finden wie wir in nächster Zeit reisen wollen. *Da ich nicht mehr mit dem Motorrad unterwegs bin, beginne ich eine neue Kilometerzählung. Bisher bin ich 93440 Kilometer mit dem Töff um die halbe Welt gefahren. In Sydney haben wir grosses Glück, dass wir eine Couch finden. Noch besser, Rob unser Host verzichtet auf das Doppel Bett und schläft auf einer Campingmatratze auf dem Boden! So haben wir eine tolle Unterkunft, in bester Lage und es ist spannend zu zuhören, wenn Rob von seinen Plänen erzählt (mit dem Fahrrad in dem Amerikas herumfahren). Stamp the Carnet / Carnet Stempeln Auckland, New Zealand

Auckland, New Zealand 1.3.2015 Auckland, New Zealand Km: 93440 Stamp the Carnet / Carnet Stempeln The time in New Zealand comes to an end and it is time for the next big step. I have been a long time with a shipping agent in contact and organize the shipping to the next country. Next, I need my carnet stamped and go to the customs. I am prepared with all necessary documents and still cannot stamp it. This time, they want an ECI Export Delivery Order. So far a BILL OF LADING document helped me all the time. So back to the accommodation and after a few phone calls to the shipping agent I get the papers in the evening. However, it is already too late and so I go back the next morning to the customs. This time there is another guy and who do not want to see the papers and stamped the carnet without asking!
Since the paper work is done, I have to pack the motorbike. I go to the local motorcycle dealer and here I get a box to pack the motorbike. I still have to pay a little and he brings the box directly to the front door. Then clean, disassemble and pack the bike it into the crate. Cover it with plastic wrap and wrap it several times. Done. We also pack our things and are ready for the next big step. Last Stefan cooks a dinner (duck with mashed potatoes and beans), we probably will not forget. This is something of the best I’ve eaten the whole trip so far. Thanks for the hospitality in the last 3 weeks. My journey has changed a lot in the last year and along with Francesca we will again go in new directions.
But where? ********************** Die Zeit in Neu Seeland geht zu Ende und es steht der nächste grössere Schritt an. Ich bin seit längerem mit einem Shipping Agent in Kontakt und organisiere das Verschiffen ins nächste Land. Als nächstes muss ich mein Carnet abstempeln lassen und gehe dazu zum Zoll. Ich bin mit allen nötigen Dokumente vorbereiten und kann trotzdem nicht abstempeln. Diesmal wollen sie ein ECI Export Delivery Order. Sonst hat immer die BILL OF LADING gereicht. Also wieder zurück und nach einigen Telefonaten mit dem Shipping Agent bekomme ich die Papiere am Abend. Es ist aber schon zu spät und so gehe ich am nächsten Morgen wieder zum Zoll. Diesmal ist einanderer Zöllner da und der will die Papiere gar nicht sehen und stempelte ohne zu fragen! Da die Papierarbeit erledigt ist, muss ich den Töff nun verpacken. Ich gehe zum Lokalen Motorradhändler und bei dem kriege ich eine Kiste um den Töff zu verpacken. Ich muss noch ein wenig bezahlen und er bringt sie mir direkt vor die Haustüre. Dann Töff reinigen, zerlegen und in die Kiste verpacken. Deckel darauf und mit Plastikfolie mehrmals einwickeln. Fertig. Wir packen auch unsere Sachen und sind bereit für den nächsten grossen Schritt. Zuletzt kocht Stefan ein Nachtessen (Ente, mit Kartoffelstock und Bohnen), das wir wohl nicht so schnell vergessen werden. Es ist etwas vom Besten das ich auf der ganzen Reise bisher gegessen habe. Vielen Dank für die Gastfreundschaft in den letzten 3 Wochen. Meine Reise hat sich im letzten Jahr sehr verändert und zusammen mit Francesca werden wir wieder neue Wege gehe. Aber wohin?

Babysitting / Kinderhüten Auckland, New Zealand

Auckland, New Zealand 24.2.2015 Auckland, New Zealand Km: 93344 Babysitting / Kinderhüten Today is a day of it does not fit in my journey. I can take care of the children and bring them to bed. On one hand, an honor that our host Stefan and Nadine trust to us, that we take care about the kids and on the other hand, I’m doing this for the first time and I’m afraid that I do not pack it. But I have to do it, because I have to this soon every day. So I am looking forward to this experience. When I read the bedtime story, I realize at once that are both already sleeping. Since I was very curious to see how the story ends I read just go to the most exciting part is over: the home-built helicopter crashed and exploded! As I bring the kids to bed only once, I miss now the 2nd part of the story. Mhh, let’s see if I will find the book …. ********************** Heute ist ein Tag der so nicht in meine Reise passt. Ich darf auf die Kinder aufpassen und sie ins Bett bringen. Einerseits eine Ehre, dass unser Host Stefan und Nadine uns die Kinder anvertraut und anderseits mache ich dies zum ersten Mal und ich habe schiss, dass ich es nicht packe. Aber da muss ich durch, denn schon bald werde ich dies täglich machen müssen. So freue ich mich auf diese Erfahrung. Beim Guetnachtgschichtli lesen, merke ich auf einmal, das beide schon am Schlafen sind. Da ich selbst ganz gespannt war, wie die Geschichte ausgeht lese ich einfach weiter bis der spannendste Teil vorbei ist: der selbstgebaute Hubschrauber ist abgestürzt und explodiert! Da ich die Kinder nur einmal ins Bett bringe, fehlt mir jetzt der 2. Teil der Geschichte. Mhh, mal sehen ob ich das Buch finden werde….

The biggest problem with the carburetor I have already dissolved in Indonesia. But from time to time consumption is too high. At the moment he is 0.3 liters / 100 km higher. I wonder why and it comes into my mind that I’m going for some time always with light and have the grip heaters on. I begin to calculate amount of gasoline costs me this:

100 Km * 0.25 ==================== So I have found 0.12 liter. If I count the heating and charging all the electrical devices too, then I reach 0.2 liters. Unfortunately still missing 0.1 liters per 100 kilometers.
Will I find this deciliter in future? Does anyone have an idea? ********************** Seit ei***** Zeit kämpfe ich immer wieder mit dem Benzinverbrauch. Das grösste Problem mit dem Vergaser habe ich bereits in Indonesien gelöst. Doch ab und zu ist der Verbrauch zu hoch. Im Moment ist er 0.3 Liter/100 Km höher. Ich frage mich warum und es kommt mir in den Sinn, dass ich seit ei***** Zeit immer mit Licht fahre und die Griffheizung an haben. Ich beginne gleich zu rechnen wie viel Benzin mich dies kostet: Verbrauch = 5.3 Liter/100 Km, entspricht 2 Stunden Fahrzeit. Davon sind 0.3 Liter / 100 Km zu viel! 100 Km * 0.25 ================== Somit habe ich 0.12 Liter gefunden. Wenn ich die Griffheizung und das Laden aller elektrischen Geräte hinzuzähle sind es bereits 0.2 Liter. Leider fehlen immer noch 0.1 Liter auf 100 Kilometer. Werde ich den Deziliter noch finden? Hat jemand noch eine Idee?

Help Buggi / Helfe Buggi Auckland, New Zealand

Auckland, New Zealand 19.2.2015 Auckland, New Zealand Km: 93247 Help Buggi / Helfe Buggi Today we go to the Mission Bay, where we meet Buggi. A German cyclist, who we have met in Australia several times. We chat a lot and it’s great to meet travelers like Buggi from time to time. The next day I help him because he has a lot to organize. Find bike for his sister, search an accommodation, transport of 2 bicycles to the airport, and much more. I drive him with the motorbike from place to place and step by step he can do everything. It makes it a bit easier, that I buckle a push bike on the motorbike and bring it to the airport. Just in time I’m back for dinner. Yummy … ********************** Wir gehen heute an die Mission Bay, wo wir Buggi treffen. Ein deutscher Radfahrer, den wir bereits in Australien mehrmals getroffen haben. Wir plaudern viel und es ist toll Reisende wie Buggi immer wieder mal zu treffen. Am nächsten Tag helfe ich ihm, da er viel zu organisieren hat. Fahrrad für die Schwester finden, Übernachtung suchen, Transport von 2 Fahrrädern zum Flughafen, uvm. Ich fahre ihn mit dem Motorrad von Ort zu Ort und Schritt für Schritt kann er alles erledigen. Damit es etwas einfacher wird, schnalle ich ein Fahrrad auf den Töff und bringe es so zum Flughafen. Gerade rechtzeitig komme ich zum Nachtessen an. Lecker…

Swissday / Schweizer Tag Auckland, New Zealand

Auckland, New Zealand 15.2.2015 Auckland, New Zealand Km: 93074 Swissday / Schweizer Tag After we arrive in Stefans house we write in our room the To Do list on the window. Almost the whole window was full and I’m not motivated to do it all.
First, I want to have it repaired the shock from the motorbike and find a mechanic in Auckland. Thus, I do not have to go to the rather arrogant Öhlins representatives in New Plymouth. Unfortunately, the mechanic was not there at the time we planned and he wrote me later that he had to go to hospital. He gave me a contact from another mechanic just outside of Auckland. When I arrive at it, I realize immediately that he is Swiss too and we understand us well. After I removed the strut, he is about to start with disassembling. The problem is quickly found: oil leak. Since it is already 1 clock, I’m about to be invited for lunch. After the great encounter with his family, we make the strut finished and I can take a lot of miles in attack again.
We go to rest the next day at the Swiss Day. An association of Swiss in New Zealand. Of course I have my motorbike parked so that everyone can see the Swiss number plate. Thus, some cute and funny conversations arise. After almost 2 years, I hear again an alphorn and can eat a crunchy Cervelat. Yummy J ********************** Wir haben in unserem Zimmer die To Do Liste gleich aufs Fenster geschrieben. Schnell war fast das ganze Fenster voll und ich bin überhaupt nicht motiviert alles zu erledigen. Als erstes will ich das Federbein reparieren lassen und finde in Auckland ein Mechaniker. Somit muss ich nicht zum eher arroganten Öhlins-Vertreter in New Plymouth. Leider war der Mechaniker am vereinbarten Zeitpunkt nicht da und schreibt mir später, dass er ins Spital musste. Er gab mir einen Kontakt von einem anderen Mechaniker etwas ausserhalb von Auckland. Als ich bei ihm ankomme, merke ich gleich, dass er auch Schweizer ist und wir verstehen uns gleich. Nachdem ich das Federbein ausgebaut habe, fängt er gleich mit der Zerlegung an. Schnell ist das Problem gefunden: Ölverlust. Da es bereits 1 Uhr ist, werde ich gleich zum Mittagessen eingeladen. Nach der tollen Begegnung mit seiner Familie machen wir das Federbein fertig und ich kann wieder viel Kilometer in Angriff nehmen. Zur Erholung gehen wir am nächsten Tag an den Swiss Day. Ein Verein von Schweizern in Neu Seeland. Natürlich habe ich meinen Töff so parkiert, dass jeder die schweizer Nummer sehen kann. So ergeben sich einige nette und lustige Gespräche. Nach fast 2 Jahren höre ich wieder mal ein Alphorn und kann einen chnusprigen Cervelat essen. Lecker.

Last camping / Letztes mal campen Auckland, New Zealand

Auckland, New Zealand 8.2.2015 Auckland, New Zealand Km: 92722 Last camping / Letztes mal campen After a warm adoption of Lisa and William we drive along the coast and drive to Waitangi. Coincidentally, today is exactly Waitangi Day (National Day in New Zealand). We stop briefly, but then go on. Towards evening we find no free camping and still have a long way to go, but we finally find a place. After 100 kilometer we stop and pitch up the tent on the training ground of a rugby club. It is probably our last night in this kind in the tent. That’s why we light again at some candles and cook something delicious to eat.
The next day it goes back to Auckland where a lot of work is to do. We can stay again at colleague Stefan and Nadine house. ********************** Nach der herzlichen Verabschiedung von Lisa und William fahren wir an der Küste nach und fahren nach Waitangi. Zufälligerweise ist heute genau Waitangi-Tag (Nationaltag in Neu Seeland). Wir halten kurz, fahren dann aber weiter. Gegen Abend finden wir keinen Gratis Camping und müssen noch ein ganzes Stück fahren bis wir endlich einen Platz finden. Nach weiteren 100 Kilometer stoppen wir und schlagen das Zelt auf dem Trainingsgelände eines Rugby Clubs auf. Es ist wohl unsere letzte Nacht in dieser Art im Zelt. Darum zünden wir wieder einmal einige Kerzen an und kochen was Leckeres zum Essen. Am nächsten Tag geht es dann nach Auckland zurück wo viel Arbeit auf uns wartet. Wir dürfen wieder beim Kollegen Stefan und Nadine übernachten.

With new energy we drive to the very north of New Zealand and look at the lighthouse at Cape Reinga. The ride is charmingly and varied. Then we drive half the Ninety Mile Beach to Kaitaia again. This means driving on the beach in the sand and just a few meters from the water.
The next day we go with Lisa and William together again at the Beach and make a BBQ. Lisa shows us how easy we can collect mussel, we cook them right on the beach later. She tells a lot about the Maori culture and William over beer brewing. In return, we tell about our trip and show some pictures and movies of them. We spend a great time and want to stay here much longer, but we must prepare for the next step of the journey and make other maintenance work on the motorbike. We need to write down what we have to do everything penetrate times. ********************** Einen Tag lang nichts machen hat mir richtig gut getan. Mit neuer Energie fahren wir ganz in den Norden von Neu Seeland und schauen uns den Leuchtturm am Cape Reinga an. Die Fahrt ist scharmant und Abwechslungsreich. Danach fahren wir die Hälfte der Ninety Mile Beach Richtung Kaitaia. Das bedeutet fahren auf dem Strand im Sand und nur einige Meter vom Wasser entfernt. Am nächsten Tag gehen wir mit Lisa und William zusammen nochmals an die Beach und machen ein BBQ. Lisa zeigt uns wie einfach wir Muscheln sammeln können, die wir später gleich am Strand grillieren. Sie erzählt auch viel über die Maori Kultur und William übers Bierbrauen. Im Gegenzug erzählen wir über unsere Reise und zeigen einige Bilder und Filme davon. Wir verbringen eine tolle Zeit und möchten noch länger hier bleiben, jedoch müssen wir den nächsten Schritt der Reise vorbereiten und weitere Servicearbeiten am Töff machen. Wir müssen dringen mal aufschreiben was wir alles machen müssen.

Maori land / Maori Land Kaitaia, New Zealand

Kaitaia, New Zealand 30.1.2015 Kaitaia, New Zealand Km: 91647 Maori land / Maori Land After I made for 4 days service and repair work on the bike, the motorbike runs again. Completed work:

• Changed front brakes, new seals fitted, new brake oil
• New front tire mounted, balanced wheel
• Big maintenance, adjust valves, oil changes, plug change
• Cleaned the carburetor, choke cable replaced, repaired spring for choke.
• Replaced all coolant hoses
• Replaced steering bearings

After all the work I really need a break. Instead, we go back on the road and continue north. The fact that I changed the steering bearings, the bike runs almost by itself. So I let Francesca also once again drive.
In Kaitaia a Maori family invited us for a few nights to spend in their home. On the very first night they had a family reunion, eat together and make some games. So we spend a great evening with Lisa, William and her family.
The next day the weather is not great and I spend all day and sleep to recover from the motorbike works. Will I need more days to recover? ********************** Nachdem ich 4 Tage lang Service und Reparaturarbeiten am Bike gemacht habe, Läuft der Töff nun wieder. Erledigte Arbeiten:

• Vorderbremsen gereinigt, neue Dichtungen montiert, Bremsen Öl gewechselt
• Neuer Vorderreifen montiert, Rad ausgewuchtet
• Grosser Service, Ventilspiel einstellen, Öl Wechsel, Kerzen Wechsel
• Vergaser gereinigt, Choke Kabel erneuert, Feder für Choke repariert.
• Sämtliche Kühlwasserschläuche ersetzt
• Lenklager ersetzt

Nach der vielen Arbeit brauche ich dringend eine Pause. Stattdessen fahren wir wieder und fahren weiter in den Norden. Dadurch dass ich das Lenklager gewechselt habe, fährt es sich fast von alleine. So lasse ich Francesca auch wieder einmal fahren. In Kaitaia hat uns eine Maori Familie eingeladen um einige Nächte in ihrem Haus zu verbringen. Gleich am ersten Abend haben sie ein Familientreffen, essen gemeinsam und machen einige Spiele. Wir können so einen tollen Abend mit Lisa, William und ihrer Familie verbringen. Am nächsten Tag ist das Wetter nicht so toll und ich verbringe den ganzen Tag mit schlafen und mich von den Töff Arbeiten zu erholen. Werde ich noch mehr Tage zur Erholung brauchen?

Auckland, New Zealand 29.1.2015 Auckland, New Zealand Km: 91320 Lavori in corso Che bello arrivare in Auckland nelle prime ore del pomeriggio, vento forte, luce intensa ed il mare costellato di barche a vela. La ragione di questo secondo blog scritto da me in Italiano ve la spiego prima di continuare con il racconto: la nostra fantastica moto ha bisogno di parecchie cure, da quando siamo arrivati Chris è in giro in cerca di ricambi e soluzioni e soprattutto è impegnato a lavorare e sostituire i pezzi ricevuti tramite l’ultima spedizione dalla Svizzera. A me piace guardarlo lavorare e sono curiosa riguardo alle faccende tecniche e meccaniche, ma purtroppo, a parte scattare foto e girare piccoli video, non sono di molto aiuto; ragion per cui, vedendolo super impegnato, mi rendo utile scrivendo come continua il nostro viaggio. Sono felice di avere una così piacevole sistemazione dopo tanti giorni di free camp e spostamenti, ospitalità con vista mare a casa di una deliziosa famiglia svizzera con papà cuoco: cosa posso chiedere di meglio dalla vita? Il primo giorno magnifica cena con Rösti…. Fragrante e profumato è stato un vero regalo! Solo che devo decidermi ad imparare un po’ di svizzero tedesco , perché al momento sono decisamente in terra straniera. Domani inizio con la prima lezione…. **********************

Punaroma, New Zealand 23.1.2015 Rotorua, New Zealand Km: 90866 Visit the rebuplic Whangamomona / Besuch in der Republik Whangamomona We go to the Forgotten World Highway north again. Then we take a trip to the independent Republic of Wangamomona. We even get a stamp in our passport and I wonder if this counts as a new country. It declared independence, but is not recognized (such as Transnistria). What do you think? Please give me your opinion on the comment, should I count the Republic Wangamomona as a country or not?
After the Forgotten World Highway we drive to the northeast to find hot springs. For geysers and hot springs you have to pay so much that we boycott this. Accommodation is on a lake where some of the camping rides their quads up and down when we wanted to go to sleep. Whether we find sleep at night? ********************** Wir fahren auf den Forgotten World Highway wieder nach Norden. Dann machen wir einen Abstecher in die unabhängige Republik Wangamomona. Wir kriegen sogar einen Stempel in den Pass und ich frage mich ob dies als neues Land zählt. Es hat seine Unabhängigkeit erklärt, ist aber nicht anerkannt (wie Z. B. Transnistrien)Was meint ihr? Bitte gebt mir eure Meinung als Kommentar ab, soll ich die Republik Wangamomona als Land zählen oder nicht? Nach dem Forgotten World Highway fahren wir nach Nordosten um heisse Quellen zu finden. Für Geysire und heisse Quellen muss man so viel Bezahlen, dass wir dies boykottieren. Übernachtung ist an einem See wo einige mit ihren Quads den Campingplatz hoch und runter fahren als wir uns schlafen legen wollten. Ob wir in der Nacht schlaf finden?

Invitation / Einladung Taranaki, New Zealand

Taranaki, New Zealand 21.1.2015 Taranaki, New Zealand Km: 90408 Invitation / Einladung The trip to the East Coast was entertaining as we drove past some volcanoes. They are some active and they have welcomed us with a cloud of smoke.
On Taranaki when camping we meet Morris and have a brief conversation. Later he comes again and brings a cold beer with. We chatting for a while and he invites us to his home. Since it is already late, we promise that we will come tomorrow.
The next morning we drive but first around the Taranaki to New Plymouth to ask the Öhlins mechanic what about the shock. He does not say, except that he must have $ 300 and then look at what exactly is wrong. I like this not because I like to know why something is broken and it seems to me that he just wants to make money and sees me as a stupid tourist. Well, so I try from now on everything that I don’t have to go back to him and will seek in Auckland another mechanic.
In the evening we go to Morris, who has invited us a day before. He is a farmer and a proud owner of over 330 dairy cows. Have amazed me how the New Zealand farmers have done it without subsidies and in a high-price country can keep their businesses going.
His wife cooked us a delicious dinner and we show pictures and tell stories of our trip. Zum Teil sind sie aktiv und sie haben uns mit einer Rauchwolke begrüsst. Am Taranaki beim Campen begegnen wir Morris und haben eine kurze Unterhaltung. Später kommt er nochmals vorbei und bringt ein kühles Bier mit. Wir Quatschen eine ganze Weile und er lädt uns zu sich heim ein. Da es schon spät ist, versprechen wir, dass wir morgen vorbeikommen. Am nächsten Morgen fahren wir aber zuerst rund um den Taranaki nach New Plymouth um beim Öhlins Mechaniker zu fragen was mit dem Federbein ist. Er sagt nicht, ausser dass er es für 300$ zerlegen muss und dann schaut was defekt ist. Mir gefällt dies überhaupt nicht, da ich gerne wisse warum etwas defekt ist und mir kommt es vor, dass er einfach nur Geld machen will und mich als dummen Tourist sieht. Nun gut, so versuche ich von jetzt an alles, damit ich nichts bei ihm machen muss und werde in Auckland einen anderen Mechaniker suchen. Am Abend gehen wir zu Morris, der uns einen Tag zu vor eingeladen hat. Er ist Bauer und stolzer Besitzer von über 330 Milchkühen. Mich erstaunt wie die Neuseeländischen Bauern es geschafft haben ohne Subventionen und in einem Hochpreisland ihre Betriebe am Laufen zu halten können. Seine Frau kocht uns noch ein leckeres Abendessen und wir zeigen Bilder und erzählen Geschichten unserer Reise. So verbringen wir einen sehr gemütlichen Abend mit einem toller Gastgeber.

Always together / Immer zusammen Napier, New Zealand

Napier, New Zealand 17.1.2015 Napier, New Zealand Km: 89677 Always together / Immer zusammen In Wellington Florian and Nina invite us, to stay in their house. Both want to make a longer trip with the bike and I like to share my experiences with them. The next day I pick up the spare parts parcel that time I have sent to the Swiss embassy. At the same time my new passport is there, but I’ll send them back because I have to transfer too many visas.
After we spend some leisurely days at Flo and Nina, we drive along the east coast to Napier. One night we realize that we are all day and night are together. I’m starting to count and calculate and when we were are not together in New Zealand (Pick up the bike at the airport, go shopping 2 times, …). We spend about 99% of the time together! This is a day about 23 hours and 45 minutes where we are never more than 25 meter apart! The calculation for Australia and Asia looks about the same. For me, this is amazing and gratifying that it still works between us. Or will we soon be fighting and separate us? ********************** In Wellington haben uns Florian und Nina zu sich eingeladen. Beide wollen auch eine längere Reise mit dem Motorrad machen und gerne teile ich meine Erfahrungen mit ihnen. Am nächsten Tag hole ich das Ersatzteilpacket ab, das ich diesmal auf die Botschaft geschickt habe. Gleichzeitig ist auch mein neuer Pass da, den ich aber wieder zurückschicken lasse, da ich sonst zu viele Visa umstempeln lassen muss. Nach dem wir einigen gemütliche Tage bei Flo und Nina verbringen, fahren wir der Ostküste entlang nach Napier. An einem Abend merken wir, dass wir bis auf einige Ausnahmen den ganzen Tag und Nacht zusammen sind. Ich fange gleich an zu rechnen und zähle zusammen, wann wir in Neuseeland nicht zusammen waren (Töff abhole am Flughafen, 2 Mal einkaufen gehen, …). Wir verbringen ca. 99% der Zeit zusammen. Dies sind pro Tag ca. 23 Stunden und 45 Minuten wo wir nie mehr als 25 Meter auseinander sind! Die Rechnung für Australien und Asien sieht etwa gleich aus. Für mich ist dies erstaunlich und erfreulich, dass es zwischen uns trotzdem funktioniert. Oder werden wir bald Streit haben und uns mal trennen?

Wellington, New Zealand 14.1.2015 Wellington, New Zealand Km: 89126 No rain / Kein Regen After relaxing days we are leaving Paul and go back to the mountains and further north. The ride is ok but nothing special, although I try to travel as much as possible in the mountains. Then we take the ferry and cruise comfortably with strong winds on the North Island. There we have to look where we get an accommodation. I just receive an email that we can stay with a German couple. They have invited us, even though we have not met before. Great!
I had previously expected a lot of bad and cold weather in the South Island. But we had all the time good luck, it’s never rains while driving. The temperatures were even up to 30 degrees. Let’s see how long we can continue without rain. ********************** Nach erholsamen Tagen verlassen wir Paul und fahren wieder in die Berge und weiter nach Norden. Die Fahrt ist ok aber nichts spezielles, obwohl ich versuche so viel wie möglich in den Bergen zu fahren. Dann nehmen wir die Fähre und cruisen bei viel Wind gemütlich auf die Nordinsel. Dort müssen wir schauen wo wir eine Unterkunft kriegen. Da erhalte ich die E-Mail, dass wir bei einem deutschen Pärchen übernachten können. Sie haben uns eingeladen, obwohl wir uns vorher noch nicht getroffen haben. Super! Ich hatte zuvor mit viel schlechtem und kühlem Wetter auf der Südinsel gerechnet. Wir hatten aber die ganze Zeit viel Glück, da es an keinem einzigen Fahr-Tag geregnet hat. Die Temperaturen waren sogar bis zu 30 Grad. Mal sehen wir lange wir noch ohne Regen fahren können.

Earthquake / Erdbeben Christchurch, New Zealand

Christchurch, New Zealand 6.1.2015 Christchurch, New Zealand Km: 88584 Earthquake / Erdbeben Continue driving in the mountains is charming and is only disturbed by the many tourists who sometimes camp next to us like gorillas and ….
… and a violent earthquake! This pulls us rudely from sleep and shakes us through. Since we are only 3 meter away from the lakes shore I fear something, because when a landslide into the lake falls there is a tidal wave which optionally can hit us. However, it remains calm and so comes to my mind that we are not so far from Christchurch and there has been in recent years 2 very violent earthquake with many killed people. When we arrive in Christchurch is anything normal, and we hear that the quake had a magnitude of more than 6 and we camped almost exactly to the epicenter.
We can again stay a couple of days with Paul in the caravan and enjoy its hospitality before heading north. ********************** Die Weiterfahrt in den Bergen ist charmant und wird nur gestört durch die vielen Touristen die zum Teil wie Gorillas neben uns Campen und …. … und ein heftiges Erdbeben! Dieses reisst uns unsanft aus dem Schlaf und schüttelt uns durch. Da wir nur 3 Meter vom Seeufer entfernt sind habe ich etwas Angst, denn wenn ein Erdrutsch in den See fällt gibt es eine Flutwelle die uns gegeben falls mitreisen kann. Es bleibt aber ruhig und so kommt mir in den Sinn, dass wir nicht so weit von Christchurch entfernt sind und dort in den letzten Jahren 2 ganz heftige Beben mit vielen Toten gegeben hat. Als wir in Christchurch ankommen ist aber alles normal und wir erfahren dass das Beben eine Stärke von über 6 hatte und wir ziemlich genau auf dem Epizentrum campiert haben. Wir können nochmals einige Tage bei Paul im Wohnwagen übernachten und seine Gastfreundschaft geniessen bevor es weiter nach Norden geht.

Lake Kaniere, New Zealand 4.1.2015 Lake Kaniere, New Zealand Km: 88273 Finally enjoy / Endlich mal geniessen Today we reach the West Coast of the South Island. The weather is still sunny and so we are lucky, because this is one of the areas, with most rainfall on the world. After seeing the Fox Glacier (as a Swiss not a huge attraction 🙂 ) we go to the beach and stay at a lovely spot with views of Mount Cook, the highest mountain in New Zealand. Then we go to Franz Josef, a place and a glacier, which is named after an Austrian emperor.
To the camp spot at another lake, I feel really good, because together with Francesca, nice and warm weather, stunning mountains and no motorcycle problems give me satisfaction and a happy feeling. How long this would last well? ********************** Heute erreichen wir die Westküste der Südinsel. Das Wetter ist immer noch sonnig und so haben wir Glück, da dies einer der Gegend ist, mit den meisten Niederschlägen der Welt. Nach der Besichtigung des Fox Glacier (als Schweizer nicht eine riesen Attraktion 🙂 ) fahren wir an den Strand und übernachten auf einem herrlichen Platz mit Sicht auf den Mount Cook, den höchsten Berg in Neu Seeland. Dann geht es weiter nach Franz Josef, ein Ort und ein Gletscher, der nach einem Österreichischer Kaiser benannt ist. Bis zum Campspot an einem weiteren See fühle ich mich richtig wohl, denn zusammen mit Francesca, schön und warmem Wetter, tollen Berge und keine Motorradprobleme geben mir Zufriedenheit und ein Glückliches Gefühl. Wie lange dies wohl anhalten wird?

Makarora Wharf, New Zealand 2.1.2015 Lake Wanaka, New Zealand Km: 87767 Tourists pile / Touristenhaufen Just before New Year Kevin sends me a message that the tire is there. I was leaving right then, and he helps me change it. As is already evening, we will stay again in the hostel (in a tent in front of the hostel). The next morning we have exceptionally long until we packed everything up and drive off until around noon. We reach Queenstown and make a short stop. An incredible number of tourists who gather here on a small place. Why all go to Queenstown? In a restaurant we saw a queue of about 20 meters, where people stand in line to buy a burger. Due to the many visitors and the roads are overcrowded. It strikes me that many people have a much more aggressive driving style than usual. It seems that all are stressed during the holidays. Are there differences with Europe?
We go a little out of town and find a nice place to camp. In the evening, more and more people come to here and in the end there is a car to the next and the place is overcrowded. Fortunately, Francesca has something later found a great place. Here we are alone, because you can to this place by bike but not here by car. Or will we still taken by surprise in the night? ********************** Gerade vor Neu-Jahr sendet mir Kevin eine Meldung, dass der Reifen da ist. Ich fahre gleich dahin und er hilft mir bei wechseln. Da schon Abend ist, übernachten wir noch einmal im Hostel (im Zelt vor dem Hostel). Am nächsten Morgen haben wir aussergewöhnlich lange, bis wir alles gepackt haben und fahren erst gegen Mittag los. Wir erreichen Queenstown und machen einen kurzen stopp. Unglaublich viele Touristen die sich hier auf kleinen Platz versammeln. Warum gehen alle nach Queenstown? In einem Restaurant haben wir eine Schlange von über 20 Metern gesehen, wo die Leute anstehen um einen Burger zu kaufen. Durch die vielen Besucher sind auch die Strassen überfüllt. Es fällt mir auf, dass viele einen viel aggressiveren Fahrstil haben als sonst. Es scheint, dass alle gestresst sind in den Ferien. Gibt es Unterschiede zu Europa? Wir fahren noch etwas aus der Stadt und finden einen netten Platz zum campen. Gegen Abend kommen auch hier immer mehr Leute an und am Schluss steht ein Auto nach den nächsten und der Platz ist völlig überfüllt. Zum Glück hat Francesca etwas weiter hinten einen tollen Platz gefunden. Hier sind wir alleine, da man mit dem töff aber nicht mit dem Auto hierherfahren kann. Oder werden wir in der Nacht noch überrumpelt?

Boring waiting / Langweiliges Warten Te Anau, New Zealand

Te Anau, New Zealand 31.12.2014 Te Anau, New Zealand Km: 87427 Boring waiting / Langweiliges Warten Today in the morning I try to repair the tire again and ask myself how far I can continue. There are exactly 10 kilometers then its finish. We then drive with the rear wheel, hitchhiking to Te Anau. I ask immediately who can order a tire for me. Unfortunately, I can do this in a few days, because Christmas holidays. This means wait. After a few days waiting I can finally order. But we have to wait again, because between Christmas and New Year, many shops are closed. Meanwhile, I find an old tire that fit to the rim. I mount it and go back hitchhiking to the bike, which is still somewhere in the forest. I mount the old tires and drive back to Te Anau. So at least I have the bike next to my tent and not somewhere in the forest. But I must once the new tire arrives, switch back. All the work I do is to save money. Towing would cost $ 275 and I do not have that money, but I have a lot of time… ********************** Ich versuche heute Morgen den Reifen nochmals zu reparieren und frage mich wie weit ich wohl damit komme. Es sind genau 10 Kilometer, dann ist endgültig Schluss. Wir fahren dann mit dem Hinterrad per Autostopp nach Te Anau. Ich frage gleich wer einen Reifen bestellen kann. Doch leider geht dies erst in einigen Tagen, da Weihnachtsferien sind. Dies bedeutet warten. Nach einigen Tagen kann ich endlich bestellen. Nur müssen wir wieder warten, da zwischen Weihnachten und Neujahr viele Geschäfte geschlossen haben und der Reifen evt. erst in einer Woche eintrifft. Unterdessen finde ich einen alten Reifen, der auf die Felge passt. Ich montiere diesen und fahre wieder per Autostopp zum Motorrad, das sich immer noch irgendwo im Wald befindet. Ich montiere den alten Reifen und fahre zurück nach Te Anau. So habe ich wenigsten das Bike neben meinem Zelt und nicht irgendwo im Wald. Ich muss aber sobald der neue Reifen eintrifft, wieder wechseln. Die ganze Arbeit mache ich um Geld zu sparen. Das Abschleppen würde 275$ kosten und diese Geld habe ich nicht, aber ich habe viel Zeit…

Milford Sound, New Zealand 24.12.2014 Somewhere, New Zealand Km: 86694 Destroyed tire / Zerstörter Reifen After the wonderful night at the fjord we left the southernmost point of the trip. Also wonderful is the driving to Milford Sound. A mix between Switzerland and Norway. On the way back, in the middle of the mountains I have a puncture again. This time of the worst one. Two slots of each 5cm in the tire. I repair the hole in the tube and drive on. But not for a long time, because I have no more air in the tires again. I can just drive to a lake, where we set up the tent.
Something different: Christmas eve in the middle of nowhere, eat pasta and vegetable soup, as a gift a broken motorbike and of course because of the defective motorcycle a bad mood ….. ********************** Nach der wundervollen Nach an dem Fjord haben wir den südlichsten Punkt der Reise verlassen. Ebenso wundervoll ist die Fahrt nach Milford Sound. Eine Mischung zwischen Schweiz und Norwegen. Auf dem Rückweg, mitten in den Bergen habe ich wieder einen Platen. Diesmal von der übleren Sorte. Zwei Schlitze von je 5cm im Reifen. Ich repariere das Loch im Schlauch und fahre weiter. Allerdings nicht lange, bis ich wieder keine Luft mehr im Reifen habe. Ich kann gerade noch an einen See fahren, wo wir das Zelt aufschlagen. Mal was anderes: Weihnachten im Nirgendwo, zum Essen gibt es Pasta und Gemüsesuppe, Als Geschenk einen Kaputten Töff und natürlich wegen des defekten Motorrad eine schlechte Stimmung…..

Quietest night / Ruhiste Nacht Waikawa, New Zealand

Waikawa, New Zealand 22.12.2014 Waikawa, New Zealand Km: 86885 Quietest night / Ruhiste Nacht Just after drive off, I can no longer keep the bike and fall down. This is not bad but it now runs out constantly Fuel! I head to the supermarket and must disassemble everything that I have access to the carburetor. I dismantle the carburetor to release the float needle is not blocked. This I can do in record time, since I now have a lot of exercise.
Then we drive on the steepest street in the world up and down once. On a fjord we spend the quietest night we’ve ever had on the travel. In addition to the birds in the morning is nothing to hear. Wonderful. ********************** Gleich beim Abfahren, nach 10 Meter fahrt, kann ich das Motorrad nicht mehr halten und falle um. Dies ist nicht schlimm aber es läuft nun ständig Benzin aus! Ich fahre noch bis zum Supermarkt und muss alles abbauen, damit ich an den Vergaser komme. Ich zerlege diesen damit die Schwimmernadel oder der Schwimmer nicht mehr blockiert ist. Dies schaffe ich in Rekordzeit, da ich mittlerweile viel Übung habe. Danach fahren wir auf der steilsten Strasse der Welt einmal hoch und einmal runter. An einem Fjord verbringen wir die ruhigste Nacht die wir je hatten. Ausser den Vögeln am Morgen ist nichts zu hören. Wundervoll.

Dunedin, New Zealand 20.12.2014 Dunedin, New Zealand Km: 86694 Again in the hospital / Wieder im Spital The charming drive after the short stop in Twezel brings us again to a beautiful campsite on a river and then further east. In Dunedin first we go to the public hospital to make an appointment for the 2nd trimester ultrasound scan. They tell us we have to go to a doctor first. And the cost is $ 430 for registration in the hospital, about $ 450 plus tax for the scan! It would be cheaper to fly to Australia and there to make the scan, and again to return !!!
But we do not give up, and the nice male nurse helps us to find a private clinic. There, they tell us that we must first go to a doctor … but we have the yellow card of Australia and they want tomorrow to call us when an appointment is possible or not. Fortunately, we get an appointment before the weekend was perfectly fit into our plans.
The rest of the time we spend in the hostel, as we have after a long time good Internet and the weather looks not so nice. We recover well and eat delicious food. Today beans with fried onions and cooked bacon …. ********************** Die Fahrt nach dem kurzen Stopp in Twezel bringt uns auf scharmater Strasse wieder an einen schönen Campingplatz an einem Fluss und dann weiter nach Osten. In Dunedin halten wir und gehen als erstes ins öffentliche Spital um einen Termin für den 2. Trimester Ultraschall zu machen. Sie sagen uns, das geht nicht wir müssen zuerst zu einem Doktor. Und die Kosten sind ca. 430$ für die Registrierung im Spital, ca. 450$ für den Scan plus MwSt! Es wäre billiger nach Australien zu fliegen und da den Scan zu machen und wieder zurück zu kehren!!! Wir geben aber nicht auf und der nette ‚Krankenbruder’ hilft uns eine Privatklinik zu finden. Dort sagen sie uns, dass wir zuerst zu einem Doktor müssen… Wir haben aber die gelbe Karte von Australien dabei und sie wollen uns morgen anrufen, wann einen Termin möglich sei. Glücklicherweise bekommen wir einen Termin noch vor dem Wochenende was super in unsere Planung passt. Den Rest der Zeit verbringen wir im Hostel, da wir nach langem wieder einmal gutes Internet haben und das Wetter nicht so gut ist. Wir erholen uns auch gut und essen leckeres. Heute Bohnen mit gebratenen Zwiebeln und gekochtem Speck….

Lake Pukaki, New Zealand In den Bergen 16.12.2014 Lake Pukaki, New Zealand Km: 86266 Again mountains / Wieder einmal Berge After nearly a month, we are on the road again. And it goes straight into the mountains and this with glorious temperatures. We are looking for the evening for a nice campground and remind us again about the time when we met us one year ago in Goa. We tell each other what we have done in each of those days and how fast Francesca has said that she wants to see me again and I expressed the wish to go with her on. I even had to ask if she would be come up with to Myanmar. Because for the permit from Burma, I had to sign she too. All this within 4 days after we have seen us for the first time.
The fact that we are very far to the south, the sun sets is late and we relaxed in front of the tent.
The next day we drive into a valley and have a look of Mt. Cook, the highest mountain in NZ. We drive back to Twizel and sit on the lawn in front of the library and use the free Wi-Fi of the library. ********************** Nach fast einem Monat sind wir wieder unterwegs. Und es geht gleich in die Berge. Und dies bei herrlichen Temperaturen. Wir suchen uns am Abend einen schönen Zeltplatz aus und erinnern uns nochmals daran, als wir vor einem Jahr uns in Goa trafen. Wir erzählen uns gegenseitig, was wir in diesen Tagen jeweils gemacht haben und wie schnell Francesca gesagt hat, dass sie mich wieder sehen will und ich den Wunsch äusserte mit ihr zusammen weiter zu fahren. Ich musste sie sogar fragen, ob sie wenn alles gut geht mit nach Myanmar kommen würde. Denn für das Permit von Burma, musste ich sie ebenfalls anmelden. Das alles innert 4 Tagen nachdem wir uns das erste Mal gesehen haben. Dadurch, dass wir schon sehr weit im Süden sind, geht die Sonne erst spät unter und wir relaxen gemütlich von dem Zelt. Am nächsten Tag fahren wir in ein Tal um den Mt. Cook, den höchsten Berg von NZ an zu schauen. Wir fahren wieder zurück bis nach Twizel und sitzen auf den Rasen vor der Bibliothek und nutzen das Gratis Wi-Fi der Bibliothek.

Christchurch, New Zealand 14.12.2014 Christchurch, New Zealand Km: 85608 New record / Neuer Rekord I’m still waiting for a positive message from the Air Cargo Company. Then I receive an email from the agent in Christchurch. “The bike has arrived in Christchurch”. I call immediately to the operating company and ask where my bike is. “We are still searching”. I then told to the man “it’s in your warehouse”. He does not believe me and will first call with the agent. Then he admits that the bike is here! I’ll go immediately to the airport for the formalities. Everything goes pretty quickly even when I had to go back again because I forgot the carnet. In the evening I have the bike assembled again filled up with petrol and drove to the accommodation. I then asked myself, for what the agent wants $ 120 to do to the little paper work. Fortunately, I have not paid him. We still make a trip to the nearby peninsula and enjoy being back on the road.
From Christchurch we do not see as much. Ok, there is not as much to see after the earthquake has very much destroyed. The damage or empty space gives an idea of how strong the tremors were here. Then we can celebrate a new record again. Francesca and I have never been together so long. Today is exactly one year and we will still consider how we want to celebrate. ********************** Ich warte immer noch auf eine positive Nachricht von der Air Cargo Firma. Da erreicht mich eine Mail vom Agent. „Das Bike sein in Christchurch eingetroffen“. Ich rufe sofort bei der Betreiberfirma an und frage wo mein Bike ist. Sie seien immer noch am suchen. Ich sagten dann dem Mann es sein in ihrem Warenhaus. Er glaubt es mir nicht und will zuerst mit dem Agent telefonieren. Dann gesteht er, dass das Motorrad hier ist! Ich mache mich gleich auf den Weg zu Flughafen um die Formalitäten zu erledigen. Alles geht recht schnell auch wenn ich nochmals zurück musste weil ich das Carnet vergessen habe. Am Abend habe ich das Motorrad wieder zusammengebaut mit Benzin aufgefüllt und zur Unterkunft gefahren. Ich habe mich dann gefragt, für was der Agent 120 Dollar will um das wenige Papierarbeit zu erledigen. Zum Glück habe ich ihn nicht bezahlt. Wir machen noch einen Ausflug auf die nahegelegene Halbinsel und geniessen wieder auf Ache zu sein. Von Christchurch sehen wir nicht so viel. Ok, es gibt auch nicht mehr so viel zu sehen nachdem das Erdbeben sehr viel Zerstört hat. Die Schäden oder leeren Plätze lassen erahnen wie heftig die Erdstösse hier waren. Dann können wir wieder einmal einen Rekord feiern. Francesca und ich waren noch nie so lange zusammen. Heute ist es genau ein Jahr lang und wir werden uns noch überlegen wie wir feuern wollen.

Christchurch, New Zealand 09.12.2014 Christchurch, New Zealand Km: 85608 Motorcycle is untraceable / Motorrad ist unauffindbar Bike problem today: no motorbike anymore Next country on my trip: New Zealand (country number 33)The flight was normal and the check at the airport severe. Paul has kindly invited us to stay at his caravan. The next day I call the operating company in order to ask if my motorbike has already arrived. They have to clear it before and I’ll call again later. Since the motorbike is still not shown up, I’ll call the next day again. I realize that it is not normal and something went wrong. The operating company has no idea where the bike is!
I’m getting gradually more bad news. From: “He is in Auckland, but we cannot find it,” “it was loaded in Sydney, but never arrived in Auckland” to “bad news, it seems that it was stolen in Sydney”. This brings me down and my mood decrease from day to day. I have now gone for 2 days and the operating company has no plan where the motorbike is! They have already searched the whole warehouse in Auckland and made investigations in Sydney. Nervously, I have to keep waiting for a positive message. How much longer? ********************** Töff Problem heute: Kein Töff mehr Nächstes Land auf meiner Reise: Neu Seeland (Land Nummer 33) Der Flug war normal und die Kontrolle am Flughafen streng. Paul hat uns netterweise eingeladen in seinem Wohnwagen zu übernachten. Am nächsten Tag rufe ich bei der Betreiberfirma an um zu fragen ob mein Töff schon angekommen ist. Sie müssen es erst abklären und ich rufe später nochmals an. Da der Töff immer noch nicht aufgetaucht ist, rufe ich am nächsten Tag wieder an. Ich merke, dass es etwas nicht normal ist und die Betreiberfirma keine Ahnung hat wo das Bike ist. Ich kriege nach und nach mehr Hiobsbotschaften. Von: „Er ist in Auckland, wir können ihn aber nicht finden”, „er wurde in Sydney verladen, kam aber nie in Auckland an“, bis hin zu „bad news, es scheint, dass er in Sydney gestohlen wurde“. Dies bringt mich in ein kleines tief und meine Stimmung sinkt von Tag zu Tag. E sind jetzt 2 Tage vergangen und die Betreiberfirma hat keinen Plan wo der Töff ist. Sie haben schon das ganze Warehouse in Auckland durchsucht und Untersuchungen in Sydney gemacht. Nervös muss ich weiter auf eine positive Nachricht warten. Wie lange noch?

Shipping a crate / Kiste Verschiffen Sydney, Australia

Sydney, Australia 05.12.2014 Sydney, Australia Km: 85608 Shipping a crate / Kiste Verschiffen Bike problem today: bike is too big for the box To get to the next destination, all must be properly cleaned because the import regulations. We start with our clothes and camping equipment. We are making good progress and have washed the most complete. The next day we move forward not as good as we have to prepare a lot for the shipping.
The agent in Sydney provides me a high pressure cleaner, so that I get on well. Then it goes to the fine work, so everything is sparkling clean. Meanwhile, I’ve found out that the crate is too small and the motorbike does not fit in the crate. This means that I have to break it down until it fits into the box. However, it is no problem and after 3 days of hard work, everything is ready for loading into the aircraft.
We say goodbye warmly to our friendly and generous host, Richard, and go to a hostel near the airport.
The whole preparation and packing cost a lot of energy and that is why I need a day off. However, this means that I have not seen anything of Sydney. We spent almost 2 weeks and not have time to sightseeing to do. For me it’s ok, because the journey has always priority.
In which country is we arrive next to read the next blog. ********************** Töff Problem heute: Bike ist zu gross für die Kiste Um an die nächste Destination zu gelangen muss wegen den Reisebestimmungen alles sauber gereinigt sein. Wir beginnen mit unseren Kleidern und Campingausrüstung. Wir kommen gut voran und haben das Meiste fertig gewaschen. Am nächsten Tag kommen wir nicht mehr so gut voran, da wir noch einiges für das Verschiffen vorbereiten müssen. Der Agent in Sydney stellt mir einen Hochdruckrei***** zur Verfügung, so dass ich gut vorankomme. Dann geht es an die Feinarbeit, so dass alles blitz blank sauber ist. Unterdessen habe ich festgestellt, dass die Kiste viel zu klein ist und er Töff nicht hineinpasst. Dies bedeutet dass ich ihn zerlegen muss bis er in die Kiste passt. Es ist aber alles kein Problem und nach 3 Tagen harter Arbeit ist alles bereit für den Verlad in das Flugzeug. Wir verabschieden uns herzlich von unserem netten und grosszügigen Host, Richard, und gehen in ein Hostel in der Nähe des Flughafens. Die ganze Vorbereitung und Packerei hat viel Energie gekostet und ich brauche darum einen Ruhetag. Dies bedeutet aber, dass ich von Sydney nichts gesehen habe. Wir haben fast 2 Wochen hier verbracht und keine Zeit gefunden um Sight seeing zu machen. Für mich ist es ok, denn die Reise hat stets Priorität. In welchem Land wir als nächstes ankommen ist im nächsten Blog zu lesen.

Lot of work / Viel Arbeit Sydney, Australia

Sydney, Australia 30.11.2014 Sydney, Australia Km: 85427 Lot of work / Viel Arbeit Bike problem today: No more petrol Since we have the yellow card from the doctor, we have no more problems to get something in the hospital! We can do finally the investigations we want. While it need his time as or advice, and an ultrasound examiner must be made.
We are getting today in the fortunate position of a couch and as we change from the hostel just outside of Sydney. We find here optimal conditions to continue the work and rest a bit. I’m on my way to the Swiss Embassy, because I need a new passport (the old one is full). It invites me to the Consul General for a coffee and we talk a little about his and my motorbike travels. After that I go to the Embassy of New Zealand to apply for a visa. It can go up to 25 days for us to get a visa and it also costs a lot, so I decide to take the Visa on Arrival.
On the way home I stop in the middle of the highway, since I have switched too late to reserve. The fuel pump is too weak in this moment to pump new petrol in the carburetor and so I have to remove the fuel hose and blow up the petrol in the carburetor. A little later the bike stops again, this time in the tunnel during rush hour! I fill a precaution to the spare tank and blow some more gasoline in the carburetor. Then I can go on and make it up to Richard’s house.
The next day we do with him a little trip to the south coast in the National Park. A nice ride and I can exceptionally easy to follow behind someone and not have to decide at each intersection which path I should take. This is very relaxing and fun.
Tomorrow we have to start working again. Are we ready well in time? ********************** Töff Problem heute: Kein Benzin mehr Seit wir die gelbe Karte vom Doktor haben, haben wir keine Probleme mehr etwas im Spital zu bekommen! Wir können endlich die Untersuchungen die wir wollen durchführen. Es brauch zwar auch seine Zeit, da noch eine Beratung und ein Ultraschall Untersuch gemacht werden müssen. Wir sind heute wieder in der glücklichen Lage eine Couch zu bekommen und so wechseln wir vom Hostel nach etwas ausserhalb von Sydney. Wir haben aber optimale Bedingungen um weiter arbeiten zu können. Ich mache mich auf den Weg in die Schweizer Botschaft, da ich einen neuen Pass brauche (der alte ist voll). Dabei lädt mich der General Konsul zu einem Kaffee ein und wir plaudern ein wenig über seine und meine Töffreisen. Danach gehe ich noch auf die Botschaft von Neu Seeland um ein Visum zu beantragen. Es kann bis zu 25 Tage gehen, bis wir ein Visum bekommen und es kostet auch sehr viel, so entscheiden wir das Visa on Arrival zu nehmen. Auf der Heimfahrt bleibe ich mitten auf der Autobahn stehen, da ich zu spät auf Reserve geschaltet habe. Die Benzinpumpe ist in diesem Moment zu schwach um das neue Benzin in den Vergaser zu pumpen und so muss ich den Benzinschlauch jeweils abmontieren und das Benzin in den Vergaser hochblasen. Etwas später bleibe ich wieder stehen, diesmal mitten im Tunnel in der Rushhour! Ich fülle sicherheitshalber den Reservekanister um und blase etwas mehr Benzin in den Vergaser. Danach kann ich weiterfahren und schaffe es bis zu Richards Haus. Am nächsten Tag machen wir mit ihm einen kleinen Ausflug an die Südküste in den Nationalpark. Eine nette Fahrt und ich kann ausnahmsweise einfach jemanden hinterherfahren und muss nicht bei jeder Kreuzung entscheiden welchen Weg ich nehmen soll. Dies ist sehr entspannend und macht Spass. Morgen müssen wir unbedingt wieder arbeiten. Werden wir wohl rechtzeitig fertig?

That’s strange, and there must be something broken We arrived in Sydney and need a hospital for further investigation. We find one and do the registration process. They ask for the address where we live. This is a problem because we have no fixed residence. Thus, we give the address of the hostel. Later, they think that we’re in the wrong hospital, because the hostel is too far away. This means all in vain and we must seek another hospital. In the second hospital the same “no fixed residence -> we cannot bring the child to the world”. Well, this happen in the first well-organized world! Then they told us, just like on the phone that these tests are not paid. Australian women also have to pay them by yourself. I told her to check again. After having looked at it with the boss again, everything will be paid! But we cannot do the investigations, because we first need to go to a doctor. He then fills out a yellow card and copy all results from previous investigations. He makes no additional medical activities, but it gives us the yellow card. We have now invested 2 days for a yellow card, but we are no step further. Whether we can ever make the investigation? I have no idea!
In the hostel another nice surprise: The front entrance is equipped with a fire alarm and each time going on when someone opens the door. This is from 5:30 am approximately every quarter of an hour when the first go to work. ********************** Töff Problem heute: Keines! Das ist komisch und da muss was kaputt sein Wir sind in Sydney angekommen und müssen ein Spital für weitere Untersuchungen suchen. Wir finden eines und registrieren uns da. Sie fragen nach der Adresse wo wir wohnen. Es ist ein Problem, da wir keinen festen Wohnsitz haben. So geben wir die Adresse des Hostels an. Später meinen sie, dass wir im falschen Spital sind, denn das Hostel ist zu weit weg. Dies bedeutet alles umsonst und wir müssen ein weiteres Spital suchen. Im 2. Dasselbe: „ohne festen Wohnsitz können wir das Kind nicht zu Welt bringen”. Nun ja, dies ist die gut organisierte erste Welt! Dann sagten sie uns wie schon am Telefon, dass diese Untersuchungen nicht bezahlt sind. Auch Australische Frauen müssen diese selber bezahlen. Ich sagte zu ihr, sie soll es nochmals checken. Nachdem sie es mit dem Chef nochmals angeschaut hat, wird nun alles bezahlt! Wir können aber die Untersuchung nicht machen da wir zuerst zu einem Doktor müssen. Dieser füllt dann eine Gelbe Karte aus und überträgt alle Resultate von früheren Untersuchen. Er macht keine zusätzlichen medizinische Aktivitäten, gibt uns aber die gelbe Karte. Wir haben nun 2 Tage für eine gelbe Karte investiert, sind sonst aber keinen Schritt weitergekommen. Ob wir jemals die Untersuchung machen können? Keine Ahnung! Im Hostel auch noch eine Überraschung. Der Vordereingang ist mit einem Feueralarm ausgerüstet und der jedes Mal los, wenn jemand die Tür aufmacht. Dies ist von 5:30 ca. jede Viertelstunde wenn die ersten zur Arbeit gehen.

Cobodong, Australia 23.11.2014 Blue Mountains, Australia Km: 84785 Blazing heat / Gluthitze Bike problem today: Fuel pump, membrane is worn and has a hole We have for the second time a great campground. We can set up the tent on a piece of grass, it is quiet surrounded by nature and for breakfast greet us 2 kangaroos. The trip to the Blue Mountains is fun, it has a lot of curves in a beautiful landscape.
There is currently a great heat in Sydney and it is for hours more than 40 degrees and even briefly 46.7 degrees Celsius. Record!!! I like the high temperatures, but not Francesca and she needs a ice cream to cool off.
The accommodation is also a little surprise. In the nature and like hippie style. On the river we cool ourselves with various water games. However, this property is not right for us and we decide to go tomorrow to Sydney.
We have to organize much and are excited to see how we will beat us. ********************** Töff Problem heute: Benzinpumpe, Membrane ist abgenutzt und hat ein Loch Wir haben schon zum zweiten Mal einen tollen Campingplatz. Wir können auf einem Stück Gras das Zelt aufstellen, es ist ruhig mitten in der Natur und zum Frühstück begrüssen uns 2 Kängurus. Die Fahrt in den Blue Mountains macht mir Spass, dass es viel Kurven in einer schönen Landschaft hat. Es herrscht im Moment eine grosse Hitze in Sydney und es ist stundenlang über 40 Grad und kurzzeitig sogar 46.7 Grad Celsius. Rekord!!! Mir gefallen die hohen Temperaturen, aber Francesca nicht und sie braucht eine Glace um etwas ab zu kühlen. Die Übernachtung ist auch eine kleine Überraschung. Mitten in der Natur und ein wenig Hippie style. Am Fluss kühlen wir uns mit verschiedenen Wasserspielen weiter ab. Die Unterkunft ist aber nicht das richtige für uns und wir entscheiden, schon morgen nach Sydney zu fahren. Wir haben vieles zu organisieren und sind gespannt wie wir uns durchschlagen werden.

We find beautiful campsites and can pitch the tent after a long time on a piece of grass. Along the way we have once again bought too much. As the three of us like to eat delicious, we do not shy away from the effort, and cook with the small and simple camping equipment. This time I cook in the evening almost 2 hours, until we have a delicious dinner (soup, curry chicken with rice and vegetables) on the table. Meanwhile, the baby and the belly is growing bigger and bigger (see photo). The next day we drive to Eden and had a look at a garden …. ********************** Töff Problem heute: Ladegerät um das Telefon zu laden Wir fahren weiter der Küste entlang nach Osten. Dabei finden wir schöne Campingplätze und können sogar auf einem Stück Gras das Zelt aufstellen. Unterwegs haben wir wieder einmal viel zu viel eingekauft. Da wir drei gerne lecker essen, scheuen wir den Aufwand nicht, und kochen mit der kleinen und einfachen Campingausrüstung. Diesmal koche ich am Abend fast 2h lang, bis wir ein herrliches Abendessen (Suppe, Currygeschnetzeltes mit Reis und Gemüse) auf dem Tisch haben. Mittlerweile wächst auch das Baby und der Bauch wird grösser und grösser (siehe Foto). Am nächsten Tag kommen fahren wir nach Eden und haben uns einen Garten angeschaut….

We met Siegi in Alice Springs and she invited us to spend a few days with her. I find time to write some blog entries and work on motorbike. Also nice conversations we have with with Siegi and her colleague Nathan while we share dinner. First, I will fix the speedometer, which means I glue the broken parts with 2-component adhesives together. Additionally, I have realigned the driver. How long this will hold, no idea! Then I change the grip heaters. Through a cable fire he work only at a very specific position and there it was extremely hot.
It was great to see you again, Siegi and to spend a few days with you “see you later”. ********************** Töff Problem heute: Tachometer und Griffheizung Für die nächsten Tage sind wir in Dromana eingeladen. Siegi, die wir in Alice Springs getroffen haben, hat uns eingeladen um einige Tage bei ihr zu verbringen. Ich finde dabei Zeit um Blogeinträge zu schreiben und am Töff zu arbeiten. Auch nette Gespräche haben wir mit Siegi und ihrem Kollegen Nathan mit dem wir gemeinsam Nachtessen. Als erstes repariere ich den Tachometer, das heisst ich klebe die abgebrochen Teile mit 2 Komponentenklebern wieder zusammen. Zusätzlich habe ich den Mitnehmer neu ausgerichtet. Wie lange das halten wird, keine Ahnung! Dann wechsle ich noch die Griffheizung aus. Durch ein Kabelbrand hat sie nur noch an einer ganz bestimmten stellen funktioniert und da war sie extrem heiss. Es war toll mit dir Siegi nochmals einige Tage zu verbringen uns „see you later”.

Melbourne, Australia 13.11.2014 Melbourne, Australia Km: 83570 Found cause / Ursache gefunden Today I pick up the new brake discs and am willing to change them. Meanwhile, the doctor has the reason why Francesca eats so much food. There is someone more who eats with Francesca! Thus, it is also clear why she do not always feel good, there are normal pregnancy symptoms.
I’m now working to change the brake discs. Unfortunately, the motorbike is fallen down when I dismantled the front wheel. This happen in front of the hostel, in the pedestrian zone, in the heart of Melbourne! I wonder what all the people have been thinking?
We continue to work on the planning of the journey that will change every second day. It’s actually not as easy as we have to consider still a lot, e.g. Christmas flights are much more expensive.
After 4 days of hard work (every day 8 hours) in Melbourne, we need some rest. Let’s see how we can do that. ********************** Heute hole ich die neuen Bremsscheiben ab und bin bereit sie zu wechseln. Unterdessen hat der Doktor die Ursache, warum Francesca so viel isst, herausgefunden. Da frisst noch einer anderer mit! Somit ist auch klar warum sie sich nicht immer wohl fühlt, es sind normal Schwangerschaftssymptome. Ich mache mich nun daran die Bremsscheiben zu wechseln. Dummerweise ist mir dabei der Töff umgefallen als ich das Vorderrad demontierte. Dies vor dem Hostel in der Fussgängerzone mitten in Melbourne. Was wohl all die Leute dabei gedacht haben? Wir arbeiten weiter an der Planung der Reise, die nun jeden 2. Tag ändert. Es ist im Moment nicht so einfach, da wir noch einiges zu organisieren haben und an Weihnachten Flüge viel teurer sind. Nach 4 Tagen harter Arbeit (jeden Tag 8 Stunden) in Melbourne, brauchen wir etwas Erholung. Mal sehen wie wir das machen können.

Ich habe ihm geholfen den Defekt zu finden und provisorisch zu reparieren. Dabei stellte ich fest wie viel Know How ich unterdessen über Motorräder habe. Super. Die Fahrt von Apollo Bay nach Melbourne war abwechslungsreich bei sonnigem Wetter. In Melbourne starteten wir sofort mit organisieren. Ich brauche dringend neue Bremsscheiben und der Honda Händler kann sie natürlich nicht bestellen (warum auch immer). In einem anderen Shop war jemand, der den Aufwand nicht scheute um herum zu telefonieren bis er die Scheiben gefunden hat. Besten Dank. Francesca braucht dringend warme Kleider, da es im Süden von Australien immer noch recht kalt ist. Unterdessen buche ich einen Platz auf der Fähre nach Tasmanien, doch leider ist die Fähre für die nächsten 2 Wochen ausgebucht. Zudem kostet es etwa 750 CHF was doch recht happig ist für eine Woche Tassi. Frustriert arbeite ich weiter: Ersatzteile bestellen und Visum für Neu Seeland besorgen. Dies geht leider auch nicht, da man nur in Sydney eines beantragen kann. Wir verbringen viel Zeit zusammen mit besprechen wie wir die Reise fortsetzen wollen. Alle 2 Wochen ändert der Kontinent wo wir als nächstes hinwollen! Mal sehen ob wir eine gute Lösung finden. Seit ei***** Zeit klagt Francesca über Magenprobleme und hat einen aufgeblähten Bauch. Ich vermute wir müssen die Ernährung umstellen und vor allem we***** essen. Das ist der Nachteil der ersten Welt, dass Nahrungsmittel im Überfluss vorhanden ist.

Apollo Bay, Australia 8.11.2014 Apollo Bay, Australia Km: 83349 Great Ocean Road / Great Ocean Road Today’s bike problem: speedometer gear defective. Spare parts available and repair completed. I feel comfortable on the camp spot and probably will not go on really. But we must, because tomorrow the temperatures drop and rain comes. Today it is still warm up to 29 degrees. The landscape here in the south is much varied and partially as in Switzerland.
The temperatures are same as in Switzerland too and it’s getting colder and colder with every kilometer. No trace of the 29 degrees! As we reach the Great Ocean Road, it is also cloudy and a few drops fall. We still look at the view points and continue. Then comes to rain and the temperatures continue to fall. There are, meanwhile, only 10 degrees! We decide today not to camp and to go in a hostel. The search is more difficult this time, as some hostels use the situation of high season and fixes the prices extremely upwards. In addition, an owner was quite rude and wanted too much money for the shabby hostel. These games, we do not love and prefer to stay in a tent than to let the other win the games. But we found at the last possibility a nice, friendly and affordable hostel. Heute soll es noch bis 29 Grad warm werden. Die Landschaft ist hier im Süden viel Abwechslungsreicher und teilweise wie in der Schweiz. Auch die Tempeaturen sind wie in der Schweiz und es wird mit jedem Kilometer kälter und kälter. Keine Spur von den 29 Grad! Als wir die Great Ocean Road erreichen ist es zudem bewölkt und einige Tropfen fallen. Wir schauen uns noch die Aussichtspunkte an und fahren weiter. Dann kommt Regen auf und die Temperaturen fallen weiter. Es sind unterdessen nur noch 10 Grad! Wir entscheiden heute nicht zu campen und in ein Hostel zu gehen. Die Suche ist diesmal schwieriger, da einige Hostels die Situation ausnutzen und die Preise extrem nach oben schrauben. Zudem war eine Besitzerin ziemlich unfreundlich und wollte viel zu viel Geld für das schäbige Hostel. Diese Spielchen machen wir nicht mit und übernachten dann lieben im Zelt. Wir fanden aber gerade noch ein nettes, freundliches und günstiges Hostel. Wir sind froh im trockenen zu übernachten und wissen nicht wie es morgen weitergehen soll.

Adelaide, Australia 6.11.2014 Adelaide, Australia Km: 82533 Records / Rekorde We are on the road again and shortly after leaving Alice Springs, I notice that the battery is not charging. A little later I stop and measure exactly = problem. The cause is found quickly and I have the burnt connector and cable repaired temporarily.
Meanwhile, it’s Francesca’s mother a bit better, but she need to stay longer in the hospital. The next driving day I get several records. We drive in one day 776 km (all straight and nothing to see except bush). Francesca getting almost crazy, but to me it was fun 🙂 Then I’m constantly on the road since 553 days! I never was so far to the south! I’ve never been so alive long. Ok, well I do not know really, because I believe in past lives I was a connecting rod … A round number I very nearly missed in the average maximum temperature. I write down every day the maximum temperature. This temperature must be at least half an hour there so it counts. So I have an average of 29.99 degrees!!!
In Adelaide I realize that the bike is a little lower. I just hope that I don’t have a problem with the suspension again. We go shopping and stay a bit outside on a charming campspot. ********************** Wir sind wieder auch Achse und kurz nach verlassen von Alice Springs, merke ich, dass die Batterie nicht geladen wird. Etwas später stoppe ich und Messe genau nach=Problem. Die Ursache ist schnell gefunden und ich habe den verbrannten Stecker und Kabel provisorisch repariert. Unterdessen geht es Francescas Mutter wieder etwas besser, aber sie wird noch länger im Spital bleiben müssen. Am nächsten Fahr Tag stelle ich mehrere Rekorde auf. Wir sind an einem Tag 776 Kilometer gefahren (alles gerade aus und ausser Busch nichts zu sehen). Francesca ist beinahe durchgedreht, aber mir hat es Spass gemacht 🙂 Dann bin ich seit 553 Tagen ununterbrochen unterwegs. Noch nie war ich soweit im Süden. Ich war auch noch nie so lange am Leben. Ok, genau weiss ich das nicht, den ich glaube im letzten Leben war ich eine Pleuelstange… Eine runde Zahl habe ich bei der durchschnittlichen Höchsttemperatur sehr knapp verpasst. Ich schreibe jeden Tag die Höchsttemperatur auf. Diese Temperatur muss mindestens eine halbe Stunde vorhanden sein damit sie zählt. So habe ich im Durchschnitt 29.99 Grad!!! In Adelaide merke ich, dass das Motorrad etwas tiefer liegt. Ich hoffe nur, dass ich nicht wieder ein Problem mit dem Federbein habe. Wir gehen noch einkaufen und übernachten etwas ausserhalb auf einem scharmanten Campingplatz.

Alice Springs, Australia 3.11.2014 Alice Springs, Australia Km: 80973 Too many prolems / Zu viele Probleme I have ideal conditions in the hostel to work on the bike. Seb the owner has offered me to work in the garage. He also has a welding machine and so I can weld the crack in the frame. The crack I saw some time ago and now I want to fix it. Unfortunately, I do not get any spare parts to repair the oil leak and I have to order somewhere. When I reassembled everything and do tests run, petrol run out. This means I have to disassemble the carburetor again. Then again build everything together and then cooling water runs out! Actually I love to work on the motorbike, but now I definitely have enough. I realize that a coolant hose is defective. These are specifically designed for a vehicle and I will certainly get no originals on the fly. Seb helps me and we find one of a Toyota car that fits somewhat. Reassemble it and finally the bike running normally again.
Meanwhile, I have already covered more than 80,000 kilometers, which means that I drove around the world already 2 times. This is approximately 50% of the distance I have planned.

Meanwhile, Francesca contacts someone in Rome and her mother does not seem to be in critical condition. Head and spine seem to be ok. In between, we always buy a lot of food and constantly eat too much. Zudem hat er eine Schweissanlage und ich kann so den Riss im Rahmen schweissen. Der Riss ist mir vor längerem mal aufgefallen und jetzt will ich es reparieren. Leider kriege ich keine Ersatzteile, um das Öl Leck zu reparieren und muss es irgendwo bestellen. Als ich alles wieder zusammengebaut habe und ein Probelauf mache, läuft Benzin aus. Dies bedeutet ich muss den Vergaser nochmals auseinander nehmen. Dann wieder alles zusammen bauen und dann läuft Kühlwasser aus! Eigentlich liebe ich es am Töff herum zuschrauben, aber jetzt habe ich definitiv genug. Ich stelle fest, dass ein Kühlwasserschlauch defekt ist. Diese sind speziell für ein Fahrzeug entwickelt und ich werde sicher keinen Originalen auf die Schnelle bekommen. Seb hilft mir und wir finden einen von einem Toyota Auto der ei*****massen passt. Alles wieder zusammenbauen und endlich läuft der Bock wieder normal. Mittlerweile habe ich schon über 80’000 Kilometer zurückgelegt, was bedeutet dass ich eigentlich schon 2 Mal um die Welt gefahren bin. Dies sind ca. 50% von den Kilometern die ich geplant habe. Unterdessen hat Francesca Kontakt mir Rom und ihre Mutter scheint nicht mehr in kritischen Zustand zu sein. Kopf und Wirbelsäule scheinen ok zu sein. Zwischendurch kaufen wir immer viel ein und essen ständig zu viel. Dies ist bei beiden schon deutlich zu sehen.

Alice Springs, Australia 26.10.2014 Alice Springs, Australia Km: 80950 No proper rest / Keine richtige Erholung Addendum to last entry: In addition to our performance to drive 1000 kilometers on the Great Central at 40 degrees, is one of respect and which make this with a push bike. We think already a long time about the future route of travel. We would like to travel to many countries and have a lot of Ideas. But this changing the whole concept, we need to re-plan everything. This takes a lot of time to take into account all factors such as budget, summer, winter and rainy season. How long do we need to do everything, I do not know yet. Let’s see… ********************** Nachtrag zum letzten Eintrag: Neben unserer Leistung, bei 40 Grad die 1000 Kilometer auf der Great Central zu fahren, gehört der Respekt auch denen die diese Schinderei mit dem Fahrrad machen. Wir trafen 3 Pushbiker, die mit unglaublich viel Motivation in 2 Wochen die Great Central befahren. Grosser Respekt von mir an alle Radfahrer die gewaltige Strecken zurücklegen und zum Teil sogar um die Welt fahren. In Alice Springs angekommen, machen wir am ersten Tag nichts. Gar nichts! Aber schon am nächsten Tag haben wir wieder viel zu erledigen. Zusätzlich ist Francescas Mutter schwer verunfallt und wir wissen nicht was Sache ist. Wir sind am Organisieren von Telefonnummern, damit wir jemand in Rom erreichen können, der uns mehr über den gesundheitlichen Zustand sagen kann. Ich arbeite wieder mal am Motorrad, denn ich bin 3 Mal stehen geblieben, bevor wir Alice erreicht haben. Benzinpumpe ist ok, aber etwas am Vergaser scheint nicht ok zu sein. Dann habe ich wieder ein Öl Leck und die Kerzen müssen gewechselt werden. Wir sind schon länger am überlegen wie die grobe Route der Reise aussehen soll. Wir haben viele Ideen und Länder die wir gerne bereisen wollen. Da aber das ganze Konzept ändert, müssen wir alles neu planen. Dies braucht viel Zeit um alle Faktoren wie Budget, Sommer-, Winter- und Regenzeit zu berücksichtigen. Wie lange wir brauchen um alles zu erledigen weiss ich noch nicht. Mal sehen…

1000 Km Dirt Road / 1000 Km Schotterstrasse Alice Springs, Australia

Alice Springs, Australia 21.10.2014 Alice Springs, Australia Km: 80936 1000 Km Dirt Road / 1000 Km Schotterstrasse We continue on the gravel road and the road getting more and more worse and is finally a Dirt Road. From the border Western Australia – Northern Territory also has a lot of sand on the road, so much that I cannot drive anymore. Two times we fall down when driving slowly and once Francesca still has the foot under the machine without being injured. A little further we see how the grader makes the road. This is good for 4WD but not for us, because now the sand is evenly distributed over the whole road. In addition, corrugation and bull dust, take us over crest’s and DIP’s. Sometimes there are all together! So it goes sometimes only at walking pace on and on ….. …. done!!! After about 1000 km gravel road I’m tired and glad that the sweating is coming to an end. Now we continue on the asphalt road next to some famous rock formations. After anther bush camp we continues to Alice Springs and look for a quiet hostel. I do need a few days’ rest, because we made in 2 weeks over 3000 kilometers. ********************** Es geht weiter auf der Schotterstrasse und die Piste wir zunehmend schlechter und ist nur noch eine Dirt Road. Von der Grenze Western Australia – Northern Territory ist zu viel Sand auf der Strasse, dass ich kaum mehr fahren kann. Zwei Mal stürzen wir bei langsamer Fahrt und einmal hat Francesca noch den Fuss unter der Maschine ohne dass sie verletzt ist. Etwas weiter sehen wir wie der Grader die Strasse macht. Dies ist gut für 4WD aber nicht für uns, da er den Sand gleichmässig über die ganze Strasse verteilt. Zudem kommen immer wieder Abschnitte mit heftigem Wellblech (corrugation) und Tiefsand-Verwehungen (bulldust), die über Crest’s und DIP’s führen. Manchmal gibt es auch alles zusammen! So geht es zum Teil nur im Schritttempo weiter und weiter….. …. Geschafft!!! Nach über 1000 Kilometer Gravel Road bin ich müde und froh dass die Schinderei ein Ende hat. Nun geht es weiter auf geteerter Strasse neben einigen markanten Felsformationen, bis wir in Alice Springs ankommen und in einem ruhigen Hostel uns ausruhen können. Ich brauche unbedingt einige Tage Ruhe, da wir in 2 Wochen über 3000 Kilometer gemacht haben.

Great Central Road, Australia 19.10.2014 Great Central Road, Australia Km: 80099 Gravelroad / Schotterpiste After we went to Laverton we stay in the bus and suddenly in the night, a storm comes up and pulls the tent pegs out of the ground. So I have to leave to pursue new pegs and secure the tent in addition on the motorbike. In the morning, it goes with about 40 liters of petrol and also 40 liters of water on the long gravel road. The first 100 km are in a good condition, because of the grader straighten the road last week. Then the road getting more and more worse and the next Roadhouse is closed! This means no petrol and no water. So I can only hope that the reserve I have is enough. There is an outdoor shower next to the Roadhouse and Francesca takes a shower with wears nothing. This is quite nice to see. Whether Aborigines were in the bushes and have watched, I do not know. The night we spend again in the bush and luckily the weather is fine and no wind is present. ********************** Nachdem wir nach Laverton gefahren sind übernachten wir im Bush und in der Nacht kommt plötzlich ein Sturm auf und reisst die Heringe aus dem Boden. So muss ich das Zelt verlassen um neue Heringe einschlagen und das Zelt zusätzlich am Töff befestigen. Am Morgen geht es dann Mit über 40 Liter Benzin und ebenfalls 40 Liter Wasser auf die lange Schotterstrasse. Die ersten 100 Kilometer sind in einem guten Zustand, da der ‚Grader’ letzte Woche die Strasse begradigt hat. Dann wird die Strasse immer etwas schlechter und das nächste Roadhouse ist geschlossen. Dies bedeutet kein Benzin und kein Wasser. So kann ich nur hoffen, dass die Vorräte reichen. Dafür gibt es eine Freiluft Dusche neben dem Roadhouse und Francesca duscht ohne dass sie was anhat. Dies ist ganz nett an zu sehen. Ob auch Aborigines im Gebüsch waren und zugeschaut haben, weiss ich nicht. Übernachtung ist wieder im Busch und glücklicherweise ist das Wetter super und kein Wind vorhanden.

Kalgoorlie, Australia 16.10.2014 Kalgoorli, Australia Km: 78941 Last preparations / Letzte Vorbereitungen Wir fahren heute nach Osten und verabschieden uns von Len. Viele Dank, dass du uns gehostest hast. Als nächstes machen wir einen Abstecher zum Wave Rock. Nett an zu sehen, und er war so oder so auf unserem Weg. Dann fahren wir nach Kalgoorli und wollen da übernachten. Die Stadt ist eine Goldgräberstadt und sieht genauso aus. Da wir frühzeitig ankommen suche ich einen Töff Mechaniker und wechsle noch schnell das Öl. Dann stellen wir das Zelt auf und ruhen uns aus. Nach einer Stunde nachmittags Schlaf, merke ich, dass Francesca nicht mehr da ist. Sie hat mir ein Zettel geschrieben, dass sie etwas spazieren geht. Dann kommt ein Ranger vorbei und sagt mir, dass ich hier nicht zelten darf. ****! Alles wieder einpacken und das Zelt irgendwo anders aufstellen. Der Ranger ist dabei nicht sehr freundlich was mich überrascht, denn bisher sind alle Leute von Zoll, Polizei, usw. extrem freundlich. So auch auf dem Weg nach Kalgoorli, wo die Polizei mich angehalten hat um einen Alkoholtest zu machen. Der Polizist war begeistert von meinem Töff und hat sich fast entschuldigt, dass er mich anhalten musste. Ein neuer Zeltplatz ist schnell gefunden und wir kochen bei heftigem Wind das Nachtessen (Monster Burger) und legen uns schlafen. ********************** We go now to the east and say goodbye to Len. It is only a short drive to Len, but it took longer because I have 10 kilometers after Perth a flat tire. This surprised me, because I let a mechanic change the tires in Perth. The hole does not seem to be so big that I have to inflate two times only to drive the 100 km to Len.
We can very well rest with Len and we cook for him each night dinner and he helps me to repair the broken tire. The mechanic has the tube not correctly mounted and it was all the time folded inside the tire.
Len also reflects on a long trip with the motorbike and I’m very happy to help him and if he reaches Europe I offer him, in any case even a couch.
We start the tomorrow to the next long and exciting stage. Let’s see what happen. ********************** Am Morgen packen wir und verabschieden uns von Jack und seiner Familie. Vielen Dank Jack, dass wir bei dir übernachten durften und du für uns herrlich gekocht hast. Zu Len ist es nur ein kurzer Weg, doch es dauerte länger, da ich 10 Kilometer nach Perth einen Platten habe. Dies überrascht mich, da ich den Reifen in Perth bei einem Mechaniker wechseln liess. Das Loch scheint nicht so gross zu sein, dass ich mit zwei Mal aufpumpen die 100 Kilometer zu Len gerade noch schaffe. Wir können uns sehr gut bei Len ausruhen und kochen für ihn jeweils Nachtessen und er hilft mir beim Reparieren des defekten Reifens. Der Mechaniker hat den Schlauch nicht richtig montiert und war die ganze Zeit gefaltet im Reifen drin. Len denkt ebenfalls über eine längere Reise mit dem Töff nach und ich werde ihm sehr gerne helfen und ihm, falls er Europa erreicht, auf jeden Fall auch eine Couch anbieten. Morgen starten wir auf die nächste lange und spannende Etappe.

We decide to go to a place, where only a few tourists are going.
But first we go to Mandurah, because Len has offered us a couch. ********************** Der Nambung NP hat mit seinen Pineaccles was Besonderes und ist bisher der einzige der das Geld wert ist. Generell finden wir die Westküste mehr attraktiv je weiter wir in den Süden kommen. Nach Perth gehen wir, weil ich vermute dass etwas mit dem Federbein nicht stimmt. Ich telefoniere etwas herum und in Perth gibt es einen Mechaniker, der das Federbein überprüfen kann. Ich telefoniere mit ihm, dass er die Ersatzteile gleich bestellt (egal ob ich sie brauche oder nicht). Dies hat er zu meiner Überraschung bereits getan. Super! Dann suchen wir einen Caravan Park, finden aber nur sehr teure, so dass wir entscheiden, wieder aus der Stadt zu fahren, da zu übernachten und morgen wieder zurück zu kommen. Wir gehen in den Supermarkt um das Nachtessen zu kaufen, und da treffen wir Jack, den wir schon in Exmouth auf dem Camping getroffen haben. Er lädt und zu sich ein und wir können einige Tage bei ihm bleiben. Dies ist super, da er Chefkoch ist und uns mit herrlichen Gerichten verwöhnt. Auch hilft er mir, das Federbein zum Mechaniker zu bringen. Ich wechsle auch gleich den Hinterreifen und bin superfroh, dass er uns seine Hilfe angeboten hat. Wir wissen allerdings nicht wie wir weiter reisen sollen. Viele haben uns gesagt, das schönste haben wir hinter uns, aber der Süden soll auch sehr schön sein. Es ist zu dieser Jahreszeit im Süden aber noch sehr kalt. Wir entscheiden uns dorthin zu gehen, wo sonst nur wenige Touristen hin gehen. Aber zuerst fahren wir nach Mandurah, da Len uns eine Couch angeboten hat.

Geraldton, Australia 4.10.2014 Kalbarri, Australia Km: 77256 Again most beautiful place / Wieder schönster Ort As we head towards Kalbarri National Park, the landscape changes a bit and is actually a bit more interesting. I especially like the cliffs near Kalbarri where meter-high waves on the rocks collide. Because the road is too sandy and we have to pay $ 6 again, we didn’t go to a gorge more in the north. We rest in Kalbarri for an hour or two and then start heading to Geralton. On the whole route is blowing towards us, a violent wind that does not particularly pleasant for the whole trip. We hope that after Geralton we still find a nice place. A lot of people have said the Nambung National Park is the best. Let’s see. ********************** Als wir Richtung Kalbarri National Park fahren, ändert sich die Landschaft ein wenig und ist tatsächlich etwas interessanter. Mir gefallen besonders die Klippen bei Kalbarri wo meterhohe Wellen an die Felsen prallen. Eine Gorge lassen wir aus, da die Strasse zu sandig ist und wir wieder 6$ bezahlen müssen. Wir ruhen uns in Kalbarri noch etwas aus und fahren dann weiter nach Geralton. Auf der ganzen Strecke bläst uns ein heftiger Wind entgegen, der die ganze Fahrt nicht besonders angenehm macht. Wir hoffen, dass nach Geralton wir noch einen schönen Ort finden, da viel Leute gesagt haben, der Nambung National Park sei der beste. Mal sehen.

So we drive to the stop in Carnarvon same meaning. The Shark Bay actually adds a little variety, but no more. Monkey Mia we omit. You can watch the feeding of dolphins, but cannot swim or caress with them. The whole thing for $ 8.50. We now hope that the Kalbarri National Park is the most beautiful place in Australia, because many people have recommended us this. Let’s see what there is to see. ********************** Viele Leute sagten uns, dass nicht Coral Bay, sondern Shark Bay der schönste Ort von Australien sei. Also fahren wir nach dem Zwischenstopp in Carnarvon gleich dahin. Die Shark Bay bringt tatsächlich etwas Abwechslung, aber nicht mehr. Monkey Mia lassen wir aus. Man kann bei der Fütterung von Delfinen zuschauen, aber nicht mit ihnen schwimmen oder streicheln kann. Das Ganze für 8.50$. Wir hoffen nun, dass der Kalbarri Nationalpark der schönste Ort von Australien ist, denn viele Leute haben uns diesen empfohlen. Mal sehen, was es zu sehen gibt.

Carnarvon, Australia 1.10.2014 Carnarvon, Australia Km: 76442 Motorcyclework/ Töffarbeiten After snorkeling in Coral Bay (slightly better than in Exmouth but still far from the Red Sea), we continue because next to the snorkeling, it is actually nothing more interesting to see. So again a disappointment from a place of the people says it is one of the most beautiful. But someone has told us further south it is fantastically beautiful. So we go straight on. Since the distance as far as Carnarvon is monotonous and by about 2 feet high bushes, you cannot even see into the distance, there are very long 300 km. But Francesca uses the time and reads the LP for the next destinations. To have some variety, we continue to work on motorbike. I installed a second battery and will now install a new voltmeter. So we have enough power to operate a LED lamp in the tent and load all electrical devices. The voltmeter I have programmed an alarm goes on when the voltage drops below a determinate value. Of course, the alarm goes on in the first night and I have to program something more tolerant.
I adjust the front wheel too. I adjust the spokes of the front wheel, and judge the rear wheel parallel to the front wheel. The motorbike travels now much quieter than before.
We still have a relaxing day, and stay one night longer on the camp and hope that we will soon see something exciting. ********************** Nach dem Schnorcheln in Coral Bay (etwas besser als in Exmouth aber noch weit entfernt vom Roten Meer) fahren wir weiter, da es neben dem Schnorcheln eigentlich nichts weiteres zu sehen gibt. Also wieder eine Enttäuschung von einem Ort von dem die Leute sagen es ist einer der schönsten. Aber jemand hat uns gesagt, weiter im Süden ist es fantastisch schön. Also fahren wir gleich weiter. Da die Strecke bis nach Carnarvon eintönig ist und durch die ca. 2 Meter hohen Büsche, kann man auch nicht in die Ferne sehen, sind es sehr lange 300 Kilometer. Francesca nutzt die Zeit und liest im LP über die nächsten Destinationen. Damit wir etwas Abwechslung haben, arbeiten wir am Töff weiter. Ich habe eine zweite Batterie installiert und will heute ein neues Voltmeter montieren. So haben wir genügend Strom um im Zelt eine LED Lampe zu betreiben und alle elektrischen Geräte zu laden. Das Voltmeter habe ich so programmiert, dass ein Alarm losgeht, sobald die Spannung unter einen Bestimmten Wert fällt. Natürlich geht der Alarm gleich in der ersten Nacht los und ich muss es etwas toleranter programmieren. Das Vorderrad richte ich auch noch neu aus. Ich justiere die Speichen und richte das Hinterrad parallel zum Vorderrad aus. Der Töff fährt nun viel ruhiger als zuvor. Damit wir noch einen Relaxtag haben, bleiben wir noch eine Nacht länger auf dem Camping und hoffen, dass wir bald was Spannendes sehen.

Coral Bay, Australia 23.9.2014 Coral Bay, Australia Km: 75791 Most beautiful place of Australia / Schönster Ort von Australien Many tell us that Exmouth and the surrounding area is one of the most beautiful places in Australia. We hope not, that it is the most beautiful place, because there is not really much to see. While snorkeling on the Nagoloo Reef, I see some coral fish but the water is very turbid and the corals show no color. In addition, the water is very cold. Brrrr. Scenic is all flat and barren scrub land.
We meet other people who say Coral Bay is the most beautiful place. So we heading to Coral Bay. First we ask in the backpacker hostel for the price. With $ 29 per person in a 10 bed dorm much more expensive than in the LP and WikiCamps specified. The caravan park costs $ 35. We decide first time to go to the beach and to take the snorkel out. Wir hoffen nicht, dass es der schönste Ort ist, den es gibt nicht wirklich viel zu sehen. Beim Schnorcheln am Nagoloo Reef sieht man zwar einige Korallen-Fische aber das Wasser ist sehr trüb und die Korallen zeigen keine Farben. Zudem ist das Wasser sehr kalt. Brrrr. Landschaftlich ist alles flach und ödes Buschland. Wir treffen andere Leute, die sagen in Coral Bay ist es am schönsten. So fahren wir gleich dahin. Als erstes fragen wir im Backpacker nach dem Preis. Mit 29$ pro Person in einem 10 Bett Dorm viel teurer als im LP und WikiCamps angegeben. Der Caravan Park kostet 35$. Wir entscheiden zuerst mal an den Strand zu gehen und den Schnorchel aus zu packen. Mal sehen was der Tag noch bringt.
