We take the bus into town, because the taxi or the shuttle bus is much too expensive. After we have our room, I go straight to the logistic company to see where my bike is. First I must do paperwork and then call the quarantine inspection. They say I have to go to the custom first. Because the Custom Office is not far away, we go right then. I’ll do more paper work and then have to wait until the quarantine inspection has produced the documents. The next morning I call to make sure everything is ready. Of course not and I have to wait again until they call back. Since they do not make it I’ll call again. The file is created, and now I have to pay and then I can book an appointment. This I can do over the phone and therefore call again. Meanwhile, I have lost so much time that my fears are more and more true. We need to stay at least over the weekend, and here in Darwin actually is nothing to do or to see. In addition, the cost of accommodation is extremely expensive ($ 35 per person per night, in Asia, we have paid in the average $ 6).
The phone marathon then goes all day until I finally have an appointment for the inspector. Let’s see if he takes my bike or do I have to stay longer and must clean the motorbike again.
After a year in Asia and the first days in Australia we are both shocked.
\n\n\n\n- Everything is extremely expensive, except meat \ud83d\ude09 <\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Everything is organized, but the spontaneity remains on track and ends in a lot of bureaucracy. There are many laws need to be complain. E.g. do not drive at red lights, do not drive on the wrong side of the road, overtaking on the right side, don’t drive with collapsed tires, not driving with trucks where not all wheels are mounted, and much more… <\/li>\n\n\n\n
- People do not laugh, unless they drink beer (ok, this is from 3 o’clock in the afternoon until late at night, thus acceptable.) <\/li>\n\n\n\n
- All work a lot, so they can afford leisure <\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Most people are overweight and tattooed <\/li>\n\n\n\n
- No dress code, all dress like they want <\/li>\n\n\n\n
- We meet a lot of tourists, but no travelers<\/li>\n\n<\/ul>\n\nBut there are also some positive points, so comes in the store immediately a salesperson and asks if he can help. In Asia, you have to kick most sellers, so they get up from the TV or from sleep. That you say thank you to the bus driver, when getting out, I have also to learn. At least I don’t need to give applause like in the tourist flyer, when he can stop at the stop. Nice is that you can throw the toilet paper in the toilet. Luckily warned on the milk carton, that it contains milk! \n\n We feel also boring because we have nothing to do and must wait for the quarantine inspector until Monday. Then we can start right hopefully the new chapter.\n\n **********************\n\n Nach den Ruhetagen, fliegen wir nach Darwin. Wir nehmen den Bus in die Stadt, da das Taxi oder der Shuttelbus viel zu teuer sind. Nach dem wir unser Zimmer haben, gehe ich gleich zur Logistikfirma um zu sehen wo mein Bike ist. Als erstes muss ich Papierkram erledigen und dann die Quarantäne Inspektion anrufen. Die sagen ich muss zuerst zum Zoll. Da der nicht weit weg ist, gehen wir gleich dahin. Ich erledige weitere Papierarbeiten und muss dann warten, bis die Quarantäne Inspektion die Dokumente erstellt hat. Ich rufe am nächsten Morgen an ob alles fertig ist. Natürlich nicht und ich muss wieder warten, bis sie zurückrufen. Da sie dies nicht machen rufe ich wieder an. Das File ist erstellt, nun muss ich noch bezahlen und danach kann ich einen Termin buchen. Dies kann ich auch übers Telefon erledigen und rufe also wieder an. Mittlerweile habe ich so viel Zeit verloren, dass meine Befürchtungen immer mehr wahr werden. Wir müssen mindestens übers Wochenende da bleiben, und es gibt in Darwin eigentlich nichts anzuschauen oder zu unternehmen. Zudem sind die Kosten für die Unterkunft extrem teuer (35 Dollar pro Person und Nacht, in Asien haben wir im Durschnitt 6$ bezahlt).\n\n Der Telefonmarathon geht dann den ganzen Tag weiter, bis ich endlich einen Termin für den Inspektor habe. Mal sehen ob er mein Bike abnimmt oder ich noch länger bleiben muss und den Töff nochmals reinigen muss.\n\n Nach einem Jahr in Asien und erste Tage in Australien sind wir beide geschockt.
\n\n\n\n- Alles ist extrem teuer, ausser Fleisch \ud83d\ude09<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Alles ist organisiert, dabei bleibt die Spontanität auf der Strecke und endet in viel Bürokratie. Es gibt viele Gesetze die eingehalten werden müssen. Bsp. Nicht bei Rot über die Kreuzung fahren, nicht im Gegenverkehr fahren, auf der richtigen Seite überholen, nicht mit Reifen fahren bei denen die das Gewebe hervorkommt, nicht mit Lastwagen herumfahren bei denen nicht alle Räder montiert sind, und vieles mehr<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Die Leute lachen nicht, ausser sie trinken Bier (ok. Dies ist von 3 Uhr Nachmittags bis spät in die Nacht, somit akzeptable)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Alle arbeiten viel, damit sie sich Freizeit leisten können<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Die meisten Leute sind übergewichtig und tätowiert<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Keine Kleidervorschriften, alle laufen herum wie es ihnen gerade passt<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Wir treffen viele Touristen, aber keine Reisende (travellers)<\/li>\n\n<\/ul>\n\nEs gibt aber auch einige positive Punkte, so kommt im Laden sofort ein Verkäufer und fragt ob er helfen kann. In Asien muss man die meisten Verkäufer treten, damit sie vom Fernseher aufstehen oder nicht mehr schlafen. Dass man dem Busfahrer beim Aussteigen Danke sagt, muss ich mich auch noch gewöhnen. Wenigsten muss ich nicht wie in den Touristenflieger, Applaus geben wenn er an der Haltestelle anhalten kann. Nett ist auch, dass man das Toiletten Papier in die Toilette werfen darf. Zum Glück wird auf der Milchpackung gewarnt, dass der Inhalt Milk enthaltet.\n\n Uns ist es mittlerweile Langweile, da wir nichts zu tun haben und auf den Quarantäne Inspektor am Montag warten müssen. Danach kann hoffentlich das neue Kapitel richtige beginnen.\n
