At the first checkpoint an escort was provided then. Because of Ashura (Remembrance of the Shiites in the death of the third Imam Husain), many objects such as gas stations, bridges, tunnels, railways and roads are guarded. I’ve never seen so many armed police and soldiers. And I’m in the middle of it! As we reach the plateau to Sibi, not as much is guarded and the escorts take it easier, so that sometimes a piece without a protector is being driven. Ok, the pick-up did not bring more than 60 on the speedo and I have not seen that it no longer can follow. In Sukkur, there was a big surprise, as the hotels have the statement of the authority during Ashura to take any guests. After a long search, we finally found a room. The next surprise came while colleague Michael questioned by the secret police that the roads are closed the next day and a curfew there. Further, all phone lines have been cut, but the internet works to my happiness. So we have to spend a day in the hotel and wait.\n\n **********************\n\n Wegen Meinungsverschiedenheiten im Hotel wollten sie keine Eskorte rufen und wir fuhren ohne Eskorte aus der Stadt. Am ersten Checkpoint geht es aber dann mit Eskorte weiter. Da Aschura ist (Gedenktag der Schiiten an den Tod des dritten Imam Husain), sind viele Objekte wie Tankstellen, Brücken, Tunnels, Eisenbahn und Strassen bewacht. Ich habe noch nie so viele bewaffnete Polizisten und Soldaten gesehen. Und ich bin mittendrin!\n\n Als wir die Ebene Richtung Sibi erreichen, wird nicht mehr so viel bewacht und die Eskorten nehmen es lockerer, so dass auch mal ein Stück ohne Beschützer gefahren wird. Ok, der Pickup brachte nicht mehr als 60 auf den Tacho und ich habe nicht gesehen, dass es nicht mehr nachkommt.\n\n In Sukkur gab es eine grosse Überraschung, da die Hotels die Anweisung der Behörde haben, während Aschura keine Gäste auf zu nehmen. Nach langem Suchen haben wir schlussendlich noch ein Zimmer gefunden. Die nächste Überraschung kam, als Kollege Michael von der Geheimpolizei befragt wurde, dass die Strassen am nächsten Tag geschlossen sind und eine Ausgangsperre herrscht. Weiter sind alle Telefonleitungen gekappt, aber das Internet geht zu meiner Freude noch.
